Looking for a Good Place to Get My 3-Year Old Daughter's Hair Cut

Hi! I'm trying to find somewhere to take my daughter for a haircut. She's in desperate need of one, but I am so hesitant to take her because last time she threw a fit in the chair, crying and screaming "Ow" at the top of her lungs. The stylist seemed very embarassed and just rushed to get it over with. I don't need to go to a place that specializes in children (although that would be a plus). I'm just looking for someone who is willing to take the time to make my daughter feel comfortable so we don't have the same traumatic experience. I live by Midway airport but I am willing to drive a little farther out for a good place.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses! All of the places mentioned sound so fun! I would still like to try some of these places in the future. But this time around, in the essense of time (it was a very busy weekend) we went to the Hair Cuttery on 95th and Cicero Ave. I told the stylist of our past experience, and she was so nice and patient with my daughter. She talked to her the whole time and explained everything she was doing. I'm not sure my daughter understood it all at 3 years old, but it did make her feel comfortable! There was no crying and no screaming, and everyone was happy in the end.

Thanks again for all the advice!

I also take my daughter to KidSnips. There are several locations. We go to the one at Eden's Plaza- I think that is considered Wilmette. As others stated, they are very good with kids and no one bats an eye if someone is screaming. My daughter likes to sit in the little cars and they will put a video on as well. Good Luck!

We live downtown and go to Snippets Mini Cuts on the north side of the city, but I believe they have locations elsewhere. As a plus, they offer free bang trims between haircuts. They have TV's playing in front of each station and the kids sit in cars, planes, etc. I would try Snippets or Kids Snips. They know how to work with kids and are used to all the squirming that they do in the chair. Good luck!

Cool Cuts 4 Kids is where I have taken my boys. I'm not sure if you have one in your area, but you can check on the internet. I used to have the same issues with my 1st son. When I took him there, he loved it, and let them do whatever they wanted to his hair. In Cool Cuts, there is a play area with legos and movies playing, then they also have video games for the kids that are waiting to play. Once its your turn, the child has his/her choice as to either play video games, or watch a movie that they select. They also have a couple of "themed" chairs for them to sit on. The cuts are 14.95 I believe, and to me it's well worth it! They give nice haircuts too, although I have boys and they are pretty easy cuts to do. But I would recommend them! Good Luck!!

We see Shauna at Kid Snips in Oak Brook. She is great! I have a 2 year old daughter and a 4 year old son. She is always relaxed and does a good job relaxing them. The TV and toys don't hurt. There is a coupon for a free $3 toy with a hair cut in the Oakleys Guide, too. It is pricey $18 I think, but worth it. Call ahead for an apt. :)

I take my daughter to Cool Cuts 4 Kids in Orland Park. It's kind of a drive but I love how Jessica cuts my daughter's hair.
I've been to Kid Snips and Snippets and even Hair CUttery but Cool CUts has been the best. There are always $2 off coupons in the paper too.

Have you tried Kidsnips? Anyway, it's a chain. Kids can watch videos of their favorite shows or movies while getting a cut. My 3 year old son has always disliked haircuts, but can deal with it more because of the distractions. The other bonus of going to these places is that the stylists know how to work with kids and do their work quickly if needed. I don't know what your price range is, but they generally charge $18 a cut. Good luck! Kathy

Kidsnips on Clyborn. You can look them up online. They are experts w/ kids. My daughter sees Alicia and loves the videos they watch. She gets a prize after every cut and even wants to comb her own hair!!!

Hi T.,
I saw that some people have already mentioned KidSnips in Oakbrook, but I just wanted to cast my vote for them too. My daughter loves it there! The stylists are very understanding too. Last time we were there, we saw a toddler pitching a fit, and no one got upset or rolled their eyes. So, even if that happens, it's no big deal.

I went to Snippets for my son's first hair cut when he was about 20months old. They have these cute car or airplane seats that are fun for kids. The stylist made my son feel very comfortable and he was too busy driving his car to notice the cut.
