JFF - iPad VS Nook Color

I know you can't really compare the two. Obviously the iPad is far more superior to the Nook. I am thinking of getting a tablet for these reasons.

Access internet send the occasional email (or check facebook)
Does not need allot of storage space (fits basically in my handbag)
My 3 year old can use it to play games or watch kiddy videos
Read books (duh)

I know with the iPad you have a camera and can use skype... that is probably the only luxury thing I like about the iPad... (Needless to say I am a big Macintosh/apple fan and own a couple of desktop apple computers for my freelance design work)

But I never owned a tablet before. I dont want to spend $700 on a tablet if the Nook is all I need.

What do you use? Are you happy with it?

What can I do next?

Cry once...buy the iPad. You can probably get 12 month financing via Apple. I am writing this from my iPad...the best money I've ever spent.

I have a Nook color, and I really, really like it. But it does not have its own internet connection, the original Nook Color has Wi-Fi capability only if you are somewhere that has Wi-Fi. However I did just see on Barnes and Noble that the Nook Tablet is coming out, and that one does have its own connection. It will be $249, $224 if you are a B and N member. I am thinking I may upgrade to that and give my daughter my Nook. I would love to have an I Pad, just not willing to spend $500+ for one. If the Nook Tablet can giv me the same benefits, I will definitely be on the market for one.

iPads are great but make sure you look into the Kindle Fire. It's more like a table pc.

New Nook Tablet.
I have a nook color , it's fablous and I can't say enough good things about the people down at barnes and noble customer service , when I had problems wiht my nook color even though I didn't buy it a barnes and noble they sent me a replacement right away.
The nook color does everything you've listed except for the skype, but most smart phones have a skype app. At least anything android does.
My bestfriend has an ipad and the only thing she uses it for is for the kids to watch movies on. She complains alot about how propriotary apple is. Apple does not play nice with other programs. For example Ipad does not have flash player many , many websites use flash player. Ipads don't have SD card slots so their memory is not expandable , Nook Color has a micro SD card slot. And the cost , The Nook Color's current price point is 199.99 , The new Nook Tablet is coming in at 249.99 and if you're a B&N member you get 25$ off.

The Nook Tablet has better preformance stats than the Kindle fire, and access to more books and book formats. Kindle is like ipad in that they only allow the amazon.com ebook format on their readers.
