Diapers for Skinny Babies?

Huggies worked the best for my kids who tend to be skinny (i think they are narrower) - especially my son, I think Huggies were the only thing he didn't leak out of until he got big enough for Costco diapers- which I also like since they run smaller. He is potty trained now but is 3 yrs old and only weighs 27 lbs. There was defintiely a period where the tabs overlapped like you describe.

My son's problem was different, but the same. His diapers fit fine, they just couldn't hold all the urine that would come at one time, particularly overnight, even with overnight diaper. A mom on this post suggested using a feminine pad in his diaper. I would put a moderate flow pad along the waist of his diaper and that was enough to keep it from leaking. If you haven't already tried you may want to try a night time diaper in the smaller size or try a pad.

My son was the same way. We used pampers swaddlers - I think they are the best! And it's ok if you have to overlap the tabs! I would stick with the size 1 from what you said. What I had to do to keep them from sagging in the rear or crotch was to stick the tabs lower than normal. Just pull up the front farther and put them a little lower and overlap them. This worked for us to keep them from riding low and from having leaks.

My daughter has always been skinny (she weighted 16lbs at 13 months and at 30 months weighs 24 lbs) and luvs works the best on her.

Pampers makes a size 1-2 you could try.

My twin boys were born between 2-3 lbs. and have always been really skinny! They are always super low on the growth chart, if even on it at times. We used Pampers through 6 months and then switched to Huggies because of the scent in Pampers causing a rash. Soon after we started using the Target brand in the daytime and Huggies at night to save money. We have never had a problem with the diapers falling off (unless they get too full). Sometimes they hang lower but the waist was never a problem. You just close them as high up on their abdomen as possible and if it overlaps that is ok. It will stay. You can also fold over the top if necessary. My boys were in size 2 and size 3 for a long time. They are still in 3's and are almost 3! Hopefully potty training is around the corner. Oh and Luv's didn't work for us. They always leaked....I think they work better for girls.

I hated Huggies and used Pampers Swaddlers all the time.

We cloth diaper so I am not much help, but you could buy some cloth diaper covers to hold up your bigger disposables and contain any leaks.

Bummis Whisper Wraps are good and cheap and you can resell them on CL when you are finished...you'd only need a couple. Just switch back and forth a few times between the two and throw them in the wash occasionally. They will dry quickly too.

That's all I have, assuming I can't convince you to switch over to cloth diapers completely?

We used pampers swaddlers size 1-2 at that stage with our daughter, we folded over the top part of the diaper so the bottom would fit. After we folded the top , we still would criss cross the tabs which was fine After she moved to size 2 we switched to Luvs, which we Loved and the price is way better.

Our daughter has always been in the 3-5 % range for her age, healthy but petite !

I had the same problem with both of my girls, they had no baby c*** on their thighs and would leak... The only diapers that have kept us leak-free have been Pampers. Experiment with the different kinds (swaddlers/baby dry/cruisers) - I've found that they all fit a bit differently.

pampers work the best. my daughter was belowe the growth chart for weight adn 75% for height. huggies are too wide in the leg.. lots of leaks- pampers are the best. they do make a size 1-2 pamper a bit bigger than a size 1 but not as big as 2 i think they also make a 2-3.
