You can get a gift that can be used for both or 2 separate items. I also agree with the practical items. One good idea is a set of nice swaddlers.

Honestly, decide the price range for what you can spend, and then look at the mother's registry. When I was pregnant with my twins, I was given a LOT of cute, matching outfits. Not very practical. Since the parents have a big financial burden, please shop from her registry! Think of the cost of two car seats and two cribs/mattresses. Just that alone comes close to $1000. What the parents really need are the items they registered for.

diapers and wipes! diapers and wipes! diapers and wipes! (i almost always give diapers and wipes!)or anything useful like that - desitin, powder, (no lotion or baby oil of course), bubble bath, baby wash...any of that stuff. she will go through twice as much! i also think it would be cute to get two outfits that don't totally match but that go together. also when i go to baby showers sometimes i do a "mommy" gift basket, with things like bath crystals, lotions, candles, etc...sometimes the mommy gets forgotten, i bet it's even more bound to happen when expecting twins!

I think if it is for a first time mommy, you could go either way. I bought my friend who is having twins a bunch of diapers and wipes and then one little onesie for each. Truthfully, she's going to appreciate the diapers and wipes the most! There will be a LOT of those used :-)

Another Mom of twins here - You should really spend whatever you think best - most people probably gave me a little more than they would have if I had one baby, but not necessarily double the gift. The basics like diapers are a good idea, also the swaddling blankets are awesome (we loved the kidopoddomus SwaddleMe ones), whatever she registered for is a sure thing. Here is one other idea - a membership or gift certificate to a whatever you local warehouse store is because I surely spend a LOT of time and money at BJs buying diapers, wipes etc. Also BJ's in particular takes manufacturer coupons. Whatever you do, don't buy blankets or stuffed animals because I got so many of those that I am still swimming in them two years later after giving lots to good will. If they are boy girl twins - I loved outfits that were cute for either sex so that whatever comes out of the washer can go on whoever needed clothing.

Hi,
As a mom of twins I would say whatever you are comfortable with. I had people buy 2 gifts and others who got 1. Either way I was thankful b/c we needed so much of them. I really appreciated when I got things from my registry though b/c those were things that we truly needed. Some things I loved were a basket of books I received with baby books on up, or bathroom items with baby wash, wash cloths, tylenol, diaper cream or other "medical" things. i also really really really appreciated diapers, especially in various sizes so I had them as the babies got bigger. I got through almost the first year without having to buy diapers b/c I had so many differetn sizes!!! It was a HUGE help. Gift certificates are always great b/c once the babies are here there will be amny things their mom will need that werent given at the shower. One other great idea (that was not on my registry but I LOVED) was a gift certificate to have the babies portraits done at Sears or Macy's (I forget). I thought it was so thoughtful and was soemthing I never would have thoguht of but really appreciated. Hope these ideas help. Dont stress, your friend will just be happy you are there celebrating the upcoming arrival of her twins!

it all depends on how much you're willing to spend for a gift. if you're wanting to buy one big thing you can always find double stollers on sale at like target for about a hundred dollars. if you're not wanting to spend as much buy matching outfits. they're always cute.

I too, am a mother of twins. I think it depends on how close you are to the family and how much money you want to spend. Diapers of course are ALWAYS a good gift. Keep in mind when you are buying items that are size dependent that you should not get just 0-6 months. What I found was that when my girls were about 9 months old I had to go out and get them an entirely new wardrobe. If you are not that close, then the larger clothing items are great. Personally, I prefer coordinating outfits (one pink, one purple) to identical ones.

If you are closer, a family member, or can go in on a gift with someone then the bigger items would be greatly appreciated. This includes bassinets, car seats, double stroller, and high chairs. Buying double of everything gets extremely expensive to the parents of twins. Although dressy clothes and cutesy things are nice and fun to buy, practical gifts are- well, more practical.
