Good morning moms! I was wondering if any of you could give me suggestions on what to get a good friend for her baby shower. She had twins so I feel I have to get two of something. Times are hard and we cant really afford too much. Maybe like $40.00. Is there something that is nice but affordable that comes to your mind? Please share! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maybe get something general to be used by both (large toy or room decoration) & include promise to babysit with your husband for an evening so they can reconnect. My sister-in-law did that for us at 6 weeks and it really helped (just 2hours, then I needed to nurse, but helped renew us).

Hi,
As a mother of twins, I appreciated a double stroller that the infant seats snapped into. See if you can contribute your funds with some family or friends for this larger gift. Other things: baby Monitor (one works for both babies in the nursery.) Extra diapers, two hooded bath towels, matching blankets...
Hope this helps,
E.

Go to Marshalls and get a couple of baby books. They may not be used right away, but mom will be happy later that she has them handy on the shelf.

When my twins were born, I was most thankful for the practial things rather than the cute sets of matchy stuff. Honestly, the reality is that whenever you get them dressed up alike, one of them will spit up or poop all over and there's no way you can keep changing both of them. Get her a case of diapers or formula if she's using it. Or a restaurant gift certificate and an offer to babysit so she can get away for a couple of hours.

I read many twin books in the last 8 months and the book "Juggling Twins" is the best one out there. It's not too expensive on A.mazon either. If they are her first, I also recommend "On Becoming Babywise".

I just had a diaper/dinner shower (I have two older daughters). Some people gave me clothes for the boy and some matching clothes (those were fun), but mostly diapers and a few frozen meals for the harder days.

It's very kind of you to think of her. Twins are different than a single birth.

Good luck!

I have twins as well and first you don't have to get 2 of something. At one of my showers one person got me 1 high chair, I was fine with it. (At least it was 1). But I totally agree with everyone else on getting the practical things, especially for twins....diapers are a good choice. Or find a cute basket (I use baskets for their toys) and feel it up with little things, baby lotion, wipes, washclothes, a toy, book, CD, pacifer, etc. Whatever you do your friend will be happy.

Dear W.,

You could give her a variety of books. Usborne Childrens books are great educational books that they can enjoy for a long time. You can order them at www.CrackOpenABook.com or email me. I live in Mahomet. Have a great day. Good luck!! T.

You can get baby sounds CD for them to play in the room as white noise. Or Childrens music CD's or Baby Einstiens DVD's, that is somethng that they will both use and it is a single item to fit your price range. As the mother of a 6 month old, tht was something I did not put on my list that somone got me and I was glad.

One of the best things I used was lint free cotton cloths from Home Depot. They are used for drying wine glasses, etc. They come in packs of 10 or 12 for very cheep. I used them under the chin for bottle feeding, for bibs, for spit up and burping cloths, almost anything. My daughter became fond of them and started to use them as a security blanket. Anyway, I'd get some of those along with assorted gift cards for diapers or whatever she needs (when she runs out of everything she already got as gifts).

Diapers. I would definitely go with diapers. And as a really cheap gift, I would throw in a frozen meal to be enjoyed later. Or maybe a "gift certificate" for some babysitting.

I would suggest the ITZBEEN. It's a gadget that helps keep track of feedings ( and has timers for other things, too). I used it with my baby and it was wonderful! Just google ITZBEEN. It'll be a lifesaver for her!

Diapers, diapers, diapers!! This is my standard for baby showers and as a mom with 2 kids in diapers I know how hard it can be! I usually get size 1 or 2 instead of newborn since they grow out of those so fast.

I would go with the very practical items also. You don't really have to get 2 if your getting a bigger item such as a bouncy chair. etc. Sheets for the bed, recieving blankets, diapers, wipes etc are really thoughtful and needed gifts. I also really liked the idea below of a gift card for dinner out (or pizza delivery lol) but things you can use. you really only use custy outfits once in a while. and lets face it 2 newborns won't be near as easy to grab and go as 1 is. another thing to think about is you might not want to get newborn size. perhaps a bigger size that they can grow into ifyou go with clothing.

I would go w/diapers in a bigger size so that she has those on hand later when the babies are bigger. It's a tough time for everyone and having twins diapers are twice the expense!

I got the ultimate crib sheet from a friend of mine..and have and still use them with all my kids. You can get them at babies r us. You make the bed as normal and them these lay over the top of the made bed. They then snap around the crib slats. To change the bed...you do not have to take apart everything..bumpers toys attached to the side ect. You just unsnap the snaps remove the sheet, lay down another and resnap. You can do it one handed, in the middle of the night...in seconds. I have the bed made under the ultimate crib sheet so if need be I take off the soiled sheet and the bed is made underneath. Seriously, I do not know why everyone does not use them!

my twins are a year old & what i truly enjoyed getting the most were the practial stuff. diapers, wipes, bath wash & lotion, tylenol & mylicon, gift cards to target & walmart. one of my favorites were meals brought over to my house when i came home w/the babies. some friends even came over for a couple hrs to watch the babies while the new mom & dad can just catch up on some z's. honestly, it wasn't any of the fancy stuff that i appreciated but the little things that helped out so much & most memorable!

My niece and nephew had a huge baby shower and were bestowed with so much stuff that, by the time Christmas came around, the baby was 5 months old and she still didn't need much. I saw this item, I thought it was nice so I bought it and attached the receipt to the box. It was a "shopping cart cover". She loved it!!! Thought it was a great idea! (I got lucky!) I found it at Marshall's for $19.00 and Target had some, too, for that price. I can't think of the brand.

However, I was just on-line and saw this one for twins and it is pretty nice and still in budget ($35.00)!

Also, picture frames, albums, coupons to clean her home once the baby gets here are all good ideas! Good luck!

My 2 most appreciated gifts were diapers and wipes. I had enough from my shower for the first 4-6 months. Everyone else wanted to buy cute clothes or things we rarely used. If she is nursing twins a bobby pillow is almost a must too.

My twins are now 21 mths. The BEST gift I got was a sleep CD for them. It has 6 sound tracks (heart/blow dryer/windshield wipers....)and we use it at every nap and bedtime. I loved getting diapers, wipes, any bath items or skin care items. Trust me everyone will get the over the top outfits....and they will never get worn or worn once. If you want to get clothing...my favorites were the nice cute cotton set from O;d Navy. They were comfy for the babies, looked cute and we used them all the time.

Your friend will be happy your there with her on her special day......she will love anything you get for her!

Wow, there are a lot of great ideas here!
When I had my twins (turning 13 next month), the best gift I received was a Handi-Chopper. It's a small electric food chopper/grinder. When my boys were ready for table foods, I found it became my best friend! In fact, I still have it and am using it for baby #5.
Another option would be a gift certificate from a photo studio. We all know how many photos we have taken in the first year!
Have fun shopping!!

Hi there.

Being a mom of twins...and clolicky ones at that...I highly recommend the PODEE bottles. I see someone else mentioned them. I did breast feed, but you need a break occassionally and these bottles helped by being handsfree and reducing gas bubbles. Most moms don't know about them. My friends with single babies had to buy one after they saw me using them. You can get them at babies r us. These are really going to help make her life easier and I loved that it helped to reduce the upset tummies.

A teacher at our kid's school just brought her baby to the PTO meeting with a "Podee" baby bottle. It was the coolest thing. The nipple is detached from the bottle with a flexible straw. This makes for easy feeding, especially in the car seat or if you need to feed two babies! There is a lot of sense to this method, less gastric problems, less ear infections, etc. My kids are 12 and 11, and I nursed for 6 months, but I would have bought these if I knew about them. Good luck! It appears that our Babies R Us store sells them. $7.49 each. The attach to regular baby bottles.

Hi W.!
I am a mom of twins and the best gift I ever received was gift cards from Target or Walmart. It was great because I was able to purchase the brand of diapers, wipes, and formula that I preferred to use. Having multiples is a wonderful experience, but very costly. It was a releif to not worry about purchaseing those things and have the gift cards available. If you must purchase a gift, I would recommend a gift basket of baby Tylenol, Motrin, gas drops, and then put a gift card in the basket. So many new moms only think of the novelties and do not think of purchasing these items in advance.

Hope this helps :)

Hi W.,

I have 3 year old twins. A nice gift might be to get her some "twin" books she can read to the kids once they are born. I also strongly suggest diapers, when you have two, you can imagine the number of diapers you go thru.

I'd go with the diapers/wipes. You can't go wrong with practical for twins, plenty of others will buy cute things. And I loved the idea of giving her a helping had, offering to sit with the babies so she and hubby can sleep or do errands, maybe bring a dinner?

When we baptized our triplets years ago, my brother's girlfriend made her family contribute to purchasing diapers/wipes and other necessary items that we would have gone through very quickly. I had enough diapers for 2 months. It was a very practical and appreciated gift. Maybe pairing a pack of diapers, a couple of bibs (with twins you go through so many more than a single) and a couple of books in a basket or something like that.

You've received a lot of great suggestions. I would echo giving books, especially if the twins are her first kids. One idea that I've done that has been loved by the moms we've given books....have your older child pick out her favorite book (you can pick one for your 17 month old if she's not old enough). Put a recent picture of each child in the front of each book and a little personal note from each child. My daughter wrote something like "This was my favorite book when I was little. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!" -- something like that. It's a really nice way to personalize the gift.

And if someone didn't already mention, bath gifts are great and give a great presentation (bath tub, filled with a few bath products, bath toys, etc.). You can do it all for $40.

How about a basket with some colorful baby books in it? $40 could buy a great collection of books. That way, the babies (and parents) can both benefit from the gift and you don't have to divide your $ into two smaller gifts. -And they won't outgrown your gift in 3 months!

Also, there are some really nice lullabye and multi-cultural CD's out there. We love the Putamayo CD's. And Ralph's World, too! One CD for each child or just wrap them together for the family.

I love putting together kind of obscure "can't live without" type items that not everyone knows about for the diaper bag. I include a travel size bottle of Anywhere Spray (non-toxic antibacterial), Cleanwell Sanitizer (another non-toxic antibacterial for hands), Hyland's Teething Tablets (homeopathetic), biodegradeable diaper toss-bags, and any of my other favorites.
For someone having twins the Podee Bottle is a must-have! A lot of people don't know about these "hands free" bottles that make life much easier. My kids were able to "feed themselves" at 5-days old. I would suggest switching the nipple on them to something like the Dr Browns as the ones that come with are a little hard. These are about $10/piece or $7 for the kit that works with other bottles.
I find that you don't have to spend a lot of money to really help a new mom out. Who doesn't appreciate getting things that just make their lives easier that they may not have known about themselves?

Get her 2 Ultimate Crib Sheets. They are awesome and fall within your budget. They lay over the regular crib sheet and snap with bands to the crib bars. If the baby messes the sheet, you unsnap, remove, and you still have the other crib sheet beneath all clean and ready. These are great especially in the middle of the night!
