Help-my 8 Year Old Is Very Picky About Her Food.

I have an 8 year old that is very picky about food. She either wants something different from what i've made and if not, she won't eat. I can't get her to eat veggies or healthy food. It all started one day that we were at my in laws house, and she almost vomited, ever since then, she is always saying that if she tries something new she's going to throw up. I've tried telling her to try something first, before saying she doesn't like it, I've tried the mother and daughter cook day, where we make somthing together, i've tried to hide the...

Ringling Circus - Zing Zang Zoom

Have any families been to the circus at the Allstate Arena? I wanted to know if it's an event to take a three year old. She loves elephants and tigers but I heard this years show is more magic acts than your typical circus. Is it worth it and if so are the $24 tickets okay or should I skip the circus all together and find something else for a 3 year old?

Birthday Party at Home for 9 Year Old?

I have never hosted a "kid" party. I am considering hosting a (BBQ or pizza) party at my home but am not sure about entertainment, games and I am nervous about having so many children in my back yard.(about 25 - 30) Should I hire entertainment? What kind of games are best? Should we open gifts at the party? Perhaps I should just go with the Chuckie Cheese or Boomers party, the kids seem to love that. Any advice?? Thank you

Party Favors for 6 Year Old

My son's sixth birthday party is next Saturday, and I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with something cute and affordable to give the guests. We usually go with the small gift bags full of stickers, pencils, candy, tattoos, etc. But I get so tired of my kids bringing that stuff home, and I'm sure other parents do too. His theme is Scooby Doo, but if I could think of something great to give to the kids that's not themed at all, that would be fine. Part of the problem is that this is going to be a pretty big party (we have 28 kids...

Other Princess Options/ No Disney!

My almost 3 year old daughter has become very interested in princesses. We don't watch TV except for the occasional Mr. Rogers, but she has picked up "Disney Princess Fever" from some girls at her preschool. I am strongly against giving her anything with these princesses on it, because I feel they are way too skinny and way too sexualized for little girls. I am having trouble coming up with any alternatives. We find lots of great library books that have princesses that are magical, made of paper, little girls, etc, but where are they...

Having Friends over - Would You Want to Be Asked first...horses, Pond

My kids are ages 11,9 and 8. (also have a 1 year old, but she doesn't ride horses, yet :) Whenever the kids have friends over, I always ask the parent if it's ok before I let the kids swim in the pond or ride the horses. We have rules about these activities and the kids know them well. Just today one of my son's friends wanted to swim in the pond. I told him I hadn't asked his mom if it was ok first. He wanted me to call her at work, which I didn't do because I didn't want to bother her for something like that. I'm now starting to...

Do 6 Year Old Boys Generally like Stuffed Animals?

My 6 year old still likes them and I'm thinking of getting a small stuffed animal as a party favor instead of goody bags. I know the girls will love them but do 6 year old boys generally like them too? It would be a monkey to go with our jungle theme. Thanks!

Need Pirate Party Ideas

I am having a PIRATE party for my son's 5th birthday party. There will probably be 5 or 6 add'l children, including at least 2 girls. - Looking for some type of treasure hunt with a map, but these kids can't read yet. - What girly items should I include if any? - Looking for food ideas that seem pirate-y. - Any other ideas I've googled this a lot and it seems that most pirate parties are for older kids.

Almost 6-Year-old Wants a Nintendo DS or a Wii

My almost 6-year-old has been pleading for a Nintendo DS or the Wii, like all his cousins and some of his friends have. My mother-in-law really wants to get him one for his upcoming birthday, but my husband and I are not sure we want him to have one. We're concerned that even if we restrict his usage of it, it will be addictive and he will be less interested in his usual activities --- reading, art, t-ball, scooter riding, music, imaginative play, etc. He's the usual energetic kind of boy but we love that he has a creative and...

Do You "Mama Bear" for Your Nieces or Nephews?

I am super protective of my kiddo's (8, 6, and 4). While I do let them learn lessons and teach them how to handle things, sometimes they need a parent to step in for them. I have NO problem doing this. I am polite, but firm, and get my point across every time. Today my younger sister calls me upset over the way the two boys she nanny's for (7 and 4) are treating her daughter (2). My niece has me wrapped around her little finger and I really don't take kindly to people being nasty to her...but also work to teach her when she is with me. The...
