What to Get My 14 Year Old

My daughters birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I have lost for what to get! She has a phone already and computer use. She is really into music. She plays piano, and the ukelele. She's starting to get into makeup also. Something I'm considering is buying her some clothes at a "teen store". A while ago, she asked if we could go to Hollister. I told her no. I just doesn't seem age appropriate. We normally shop at Old Navy and thrift stores, and I don't see anything wrong with that. If Hollister doesn't seem appropriate to you, do...

13 Year Old Birthday Present

Hello, My son is turning 13 and he is REALLY into video games. He has a computer and a Nintendo DS. We have asked him to give us a wish list with things other than video games on it and he can't come up with anything. He doesn't play baseball anymore. He is in Boy Scouts, but he's fully equipped for that. I'm at a loss too. Any ideas? Thanks, M.

What Kind of Kids Shoes Do You Buy? (2 Questions)

Do you buy your kids expensive Nike, etc... shoes or just tennis shoes from K-Mart, Target, or Wal-Mart? Also, being a parent who grew up playing sports and always having the shoes that go with that sport i.e. basketball shoes, cleats for softball and tennis shoes for just tennis I feel that it is important for my kids to also have the proper shoes. Do you as a parent just let your kids wear tennis shoes for everything or do they have specific shoes for specific sports?

What Athletic Shoes Can You Reccomend?

I really hate wearing shoes of all kinds. I would wear flip flops everyday if I could get away with it. But I've recently started working out and I bought $20 shoes from WalMart. Boy am I feeling it. I know I need better shoes, but the overwhelming variety and choices intimidate me. Plus I don't want to spend $100 on shoes and still be uncomfortable. The WalMart shoes felt perfectly comfy in the store and for everyday use. It wasn't until I hit it hard that my feet started hurting. So, trying them on in the store isnt going to tell...

Need Suggestions for Preschool Boys Size 12 Gym Shoes

Hi Mamas, I have been buying Sketcher gym shoes (aka sneakers) as my 4 year old son's everyday shoes as I have liked that they have velcro straps instead of laces. Although I'll buy no-name clothes, etc., I typically buy brand-name shoes as I have wanted a higher quality to ensure his growing feet have the right support, cushion, etc. I think feet are important. So I have become disappointed with Sketchers--I just paid $14 three weeks ago to have a buckle and connector thingy replaced by the shoe repair guy only to find that the...

Thoughts on Hair color...and School...

I have always been "a little different", in a sense that I am not your regular "abercrombie and fitch" type of mom. I have an unusual style. When I was younger, I dyed my hair alot and it has been natural for about 5 years now. I have been wanting to dye it a funky color again. I am just worried about my daughter's school will think bad, or differently of me. I am a good mom, I just like to change things alot. I don't want her getting harrassed. I know how kids can be. But on the other hand, I don't think that it is anyones business, but...

Running Shoes for 4 Year Old

When Did Your Child Care About What Other Kids Were Wearing?

So this is kind of JFF and partially to get some perspective. My 3 year old had a meltdown had her first dance class because we did not bring a tutu and some of the other girls did. Next 4 classes she did great--really engaged and all. Yesterday she wore a leotard and tights since I wanted to sign her up for a more formal class once this one is over --most of the girls had the same outfit on until an older child walks in with a cupcake like confection of a dress you'd wear at a performance. My daughter stopped in her tracks and didn't...
