Hi. I'm always looking for great stories and books for my kids - especially my 3.5 year old (our son is 5 mo). I was just wondering what your kids favorite stories/books are for our next trip to the library/book store. Thanks!

Definitely "Pinkalicious" and she also wrote a new one called "Purplicious" which we haven't been able to get our hands on yet. Pinkalicious is hard to get also, but you can always get put on a waiting list for it. We've checked that one out A LOT! Also, another vote here for Mo Willems ~ LOVE HIM!! Knufflebunny is a very cute book as are the pigeon series. My daughter loves Eric Carle as well. Happy reading!!

My children love all of these: We're Going on a Bear Hunt, Dinosaurs Galore, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, No, David (and all the other David books), The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Cat in the Hat. For the little one, I would recommend Brown Bear Brown Bear, Polar Bear Polar Bear (and all the other books by Bill Martin and Eric Carle. Happy Reading.

The Giving Tree, (old favorite!) Shel Silverstein
Miss Spider's Tea Party, David Kirk
Diary of a Worm, (very amusing!) Doreen Cronin
Diary of a Spider (The Worm book is better - but this is fun, too!), Doreen Cronin
So many of the Berenstein Bears book - series - they teach a lot of good morals and problem solving!

These have been read over and over! Enjoy!

Curious George. I found my 9 year old in bed the other night reading his collection :) After blushing he said, "just a little light reading mom!"

Hi Doreon,
We love "I Love You Stinky Face". It is about a Mom and child and the child tries to come up with the crazy things to see if she will love him. Its great!
Good Luck with your search!

We have purchased and sold and repurchased the Chicka Chicka boom boom book several times. I finally thought my kids were done with it and low and behold the grandkids wanted it. so that is a must have. My older son loved the "What can you do with 10 black dots" book. anything by mercer mayer (little critter) Good night moon. miss spiders tea party, the relatives came. The jolly postman has little envelopes on each page that open up and have little things in them. we have had this for years but is a big fav. also the bugs in boxes and more bugs in boxes. And one we have that is more than 50 years old but is still the biggest hit of all is the original Mother Goose rhymes. My kids love them. Something to start now while your kids are little is something we do still and my kids are 27, 20, 19 and 13 is we have story on sunday night. Each kid has a turn picking. they choose whatever book they want and we read outloud. some books will take only that nights reading but some take weeks and weeks. sometimes you will find you read more than just the one night a week. this is different than the before bedtime as you spend more than a minute or two. But we read aloud the first harry potter book and a load of others. i sometimes choose something silly and sometimes something really serious. the only rule is you don't get to make fun of someone elses choices. my 27 year old doesnt live at home anymore and isn't here as often. really the only one who "lives" at home is the 13 year old but no matter who is home its always a fun time.

- Another vote for Mo Willems. The Elephant and Piggy books are very popular around here (and don't seem as well known as some of his others.)

Anything by Jan Brett.

Tacky the Penguin (Helen Lester)

Little Bear

oh, and Calef Brown - both my kids LOVED Polkabats and Octopus Slacks. Great illustrations, funny little poems, very fun to read aloud.
