Where Can You Adopt Pets in the Dfw Area?

Our dog that we had for almost 12 years recently passed away unfortunately and I really miss having a dog around. Growing up I always had dogs and my kids have also loved having a dog. We got our dog right when we moved here , but I honestly dont know where people go around my area to adopt dogs/pets now a days. Does anyone know of any websites or veterinarian's who have dogs for adoption? I live in Flower Mound. Im not a fan of buying dogs at pet stores, so I would rather adopt one. Not sure if it would be a young or older one, etc. My dog was 4 when our first child came along so my kids have never had a puppy.
Thank you in advance for the info!

My friend volunteers for Golden Retriever rescue and they have all sorts of ages. He and his wife currently have 3 adopted dogs through this process. This breed is very good with kids- you can research further if desired.

You could also look into a certain breed if you wanted and they also usually do some sort of rescue, Schnauzer rescue, Box Terrier rescue, etc. Good luck.

definately operation kindness and petfinder. We got our most recent dog through petfinder at our local animal shelter and were very lucky-he's house trained, walks on a leash and does tricks. Check out petsmart and petco on Saturdays. They have local rescue groups come in and offer animals for adoption. This is a good resource because chances are they have been fostered and indviduals can tell you about the animal.

I'm sorry for you recent loss but happy you will soon put smiles on your faces again!

Good luck

Check out www.petfinder.com You should also check with the Humane Society of Flower Mound. I used to volunteer with them and they are an excellent group. They hold Adopt a Pet events at PetSmart in Flower Mound every other week. www.fmhs.org

M., I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how you feel. I absolutely love dogs and couldn't be without one. You can look online at Petfinder, SPCA, look for Flower Mound animal rescue, I'm sure they have one or at least Lewisville, check Operation Kindness. There's lots of places around here. Try the internet, theres lots of info. Hope you find one soon!

Check into Operation Kindness. It is a no-kill animal shelter. They can only take-in as many animals as they have room for...so when you adopt from them, it's like you are saving two pets...the one you take home, and the one you make a space for.

I am so glad that there are people like you!!! I have always been a huge advocate of adopting pets as oppossed to buying them at a pet store. I live in keller and they run an ad every week with a new dog that is up for adoption from the shelter. I know that Southlake does this as well. Years ago, we adopted our dog from a rescue group that had an adoption fair at petco. I can't remember the exact name but it was something like angel rescue. I had googled pet adoption near keller,tx and a whole list of animals up for adoption would come up. Alot of the petcos will have animal adoption events during the weekends. Hope this helps. Good luck
