Cans of formula state to use cooled, boiled water for mixing formula? Does anyone know if it is safe to use filtered water (i.e. Brita filter on faucet or filter on refrigerator)?

What can I do next?

I started using water from the filtered refrigerator but much later in life. Before that i used bottled filtered water. Before that i used some baby water. But before that i used boiled water. I would just boil a lot of it and then put it in bottles to take with me. I would keep them in the refrigerator.

I think we worry ourselves too much! We have to realize that we bulid amunity to our everday elements by being exposed to them and that is why when we send our small children to places occupied by other children and people they get sick but as they get older and are exposed more frequently they get sick less and less! I have 6 of my own children and I used tap water and my kids are fine! If you want to use filtered water I am sure it will be fine too!

i used to do that too and i was told that if your city water is "safe" you should use that bc of the flouride in the water... its probably best to ask your pedi : )

Of course it's fine to use filtered water. The filter removes the clorine (poison!) from the water. The boiling may not even be necessary, since it is filtered, but I would do it anyway.

I mixed my daughter's formula with water, but I used BABY WATER, you can buy it at all major supermarkets. Walmart sells it as well. I never used water from the faucet or anything we adults could drink, not until she was a little older.

It worked great for me. Hope this helps!

I formula fed both of my boys and used warm tap water with the powder formula. As long as your tap water is safe drinking water, then it is fine to use. I have also used bottled water at room temperature, but that got a little too expensive. Using your tap water will be fine.

I was told by me pediatrician that if you had well water then definitely boil but if not, then it was fine to use from tap. I used Nursery water to make my formula just to be safe and she has been fine. I did still sterilize all bottles and nipples though.

I'm pretty sure that filtered water also has the flouride removed. And even though your baby doesn't have teeth, they need the flouride. Our doctor SAID not to use the filtered stuff. And also not, to use regular bottled water. But Baby Water has flouride. Also, I think Crystal Springs makes one with Flouride, but in our experience, Baby Water was more readily available.

If you live in a city where the water has been considered safe then you can use the filtered water. I was told at the hospital that our water was safe and so I just used a brita filter attached to my fauct to make his formula. Ask your pediatrician about your area. Or call the health department.

Though some doctors advise against it, most doctors say it is safe to use filtered water, or even tap water, though they all seem to agree that you are better off using bottled baby water if you have well water (and then only for the fluoride that is added to both city water/county water and the bottled baby water). The boiling is more necessary with well water, as there might be some extra bacteria.

Yes you are safe to use either faucet filtered water or bottled water. It is not nessassary to boil. They have those intstructions from long ago and keep them there for those that live in another country or use well water and do not know that it is bateria free. They (DRs) want you to use tap water or botled water because it has flouride in it for those teeth that baby will be gettig soon. Baby nurse on the go.com

I haven't tried that and I have filter on my refigerator, but I buy the Nursery water from the store. I have boiled too when I have run out. I would think the filtered water would be okay.

Distilled water is safe. You can buy it at the grocery store by the gallon. They also sell "nursery water," which is just distilled water with fluoride added. Distilled is probably fine since your baby is so young, but I would start the nursery water once he or she starts teething.

I'm sure it would be fine :)

For my kids, I too used both breast milk and formula. I used just regular warm tapwater from the faucet. I used the same temp water that I gave them a bath in (use wrist to check temp just like bath water).

So, I'm sure that using filtered water will be fine :)
