Want to Loose Weight

Could anyone give me any pointers on how to loose the baby fat? My son is 9 months old, and I still have a small belly. I am 5ft 4in and weigh about 165. My weight changes from day to day which drives me crazy. I walk the stairs everyday at work (7 fleights) 2-3 times a time. I only eat 3 meals a day and drink only water. And the weight is like peanutbutter! It won't leave! What can I do? I am very tired once I get my son to bed. He wakes up about 5:30 am and goes to bed around 7pm, I work from 8am to 4:30 pm. By time he gets to bed, it's time to do dishes, laundry, eat dinner, take a shower, feed the pets, and beofre I know it, it's 10-11 pm and my bed time. I want this weight to go away sooooo bad. What have you all done to get rid of this baby fat? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

My Sister had a baby in June. She cut out white bread and sugars. She's lost 15 pounds in 2 months. Her goal is 5 more pounds and she'll be at pre-pregnancy weight.

if you are like me and jogging just is not going to happen, you can try this. I bought some walk away the pounds dvd's from leslie sanson (i think that is how you spell her name) you can just google "walk away the punds" and it should bring it up. It comes in 1,2, and 3 mile videos and also comes with weights to use. this is a good workout, does not take too much time, and you are not in pain the next day. It's good cardio. hope this helps.

You sound like me, except I'm 43. I started this diet in April and by the end of June I'd lost 10 pounds. I wish it had worked a little faster, but oh well. I gave up Coke, dinner and walked every evening. Well I stopped the walking for 3 weeks and gained it all back. Eating dinner after 7:00 is the worse thing, because it stays with you longer. I went to the doctor this week and I didn't like what the scale said, so I started the diet again. Eventually I'll get to my ideal weight - whatever that might be! Good luck!

I am not sure if you are able to or not, but instead of three large meals a day you could try smaller more frequent meals (if you could find the time) it helps to keep up your metabolism.

IF your weight is fluctuating from day to day, you might have some water retention. Besides watching your salt and drinking water, you might want to try a diuretic. There are OTC, but generally the better ones are by prescription. Depending on your relationship with your OB, they might call you in a prescript. If not ask why...see if they are concerned with your blood pressure, which a diuretic can mess with- if that was the case, I wouldn't do the OTC either and just try drinking more water (ironic I know) and less salt. Just remember to eat a banana daily for potassium if you do take the water pill.

You might drop 10lbs from this and then that will help kick start your metabolism.

Good luck!

It might help to eat 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. Meal, snack, meal, snack, meal type thing. It keeps your metabolism going all day that way. And of course be sure to keep drinking water. I lost baby weight from my first working out to pilates and yoga, and to some exercise videos by Gilad (you can find his program on the fitness channel in the mornings) 9:30 here, but I'm on central time. I'm pregnant with my second now but after I have my baby I'll probably start working out to him again.

I was 170 after having my second child and i rarely went to the gym, but i did work, so maybe being on my feet for 9 hours counts as exercise.I lost 20 pounds in less then 3 months just by eating chicken salads for dinner. I think i went to the gym like 5 times those months. I did the crosstrainer and ran laps around the track. Good luck.

figure out about how many calories you are eating a day now and take 500 off of that. Drink lots of water, no cokes and you will see 2-5 pounds a week come off.

I had a hard time getting the weight off with my second child. Although I have to say I thank God for a great metabolism but in order to jump start the loss I started taking Quickslim. I'm pretty sure that's the name of it and it can be bought at Wal-Mart. Unlike some of the other weight loss pills it doesn't make you jittery and you only have to take one a day instead of three like others. I tell everyone that mentions anything about my weight loss about it. Hope that helps.

you also have to take into consideration how much of your body is fat how much is muscle and how much is water. besides your not too far off from a healthy wieght for your height. I am 5'4" and after I had my baby 4 months ago I was 201. My wieght should be around140- 155. Then I went down to 180 after the 2 weeks. Now I am using those Mcdonald workout dvd's they had a while back. 15 minutes 3 times a week does make a difference. my delivery nurse told me this also. it took 9 months to put the pounds on so don't think it will come off any faster.

try eating dinner when he does, or right after he knocks off, so you're not eating so late. also, portion control. i started eating on the smaller sized plates from my dinette set (the ones meant for salads) and immediately started dropping weight. and if you eat slowly and take your time, then you get full on less.

I can't help you on the schedule but I can tell you to eat more & run. You will lose weight by simply eating 5-6 small & healthy meals a day, this will speed up your metabolism greatly. If you would like some suggestions, just email me. I've also found, being the same height & weight, that running is helping greatly! I was doing the elliptical (sp?) runner about 3-4x/wk & I stopped losing. I've started running/walking in 2 minute intervals & it is working! I am a stay at home mom but I try to get to the gym every time that my husband is home (btw work & school). I am 28 & the weight is not easy to get off! I just had my first 6 months ago but plan to have more-in about a year AND after I lose 20 more lbs.

I feel your pain. After my daughter was born I was 5'6" 195 pounds.... I was a size 18 and didn't like it... After 9 months of this I did a couple of things.... First!!! QUIT THE 3 MEALS A DAY! split that in 1/2 or double it....depending on your POV... You should be eating every 3- 4 hours to keep your metabolism up.. eat smaller servings... salad plate or app plate size... You can eat any time of the day! If you are up until 10 or 11 at night or even 9 it's okay to have something small then... your body doesn't stop working just because you're asleep! Try any kind of exercise you can... when walking up the stairs.. walk on your toes.. or go up every other step only... I rode my bike with my daughter as often as i could or tried to walk 20 inutes at least every other day... Buy little ankle weights and or wrist weights and use them while you clean/chores/cook etc... it all helps trust me! But don't starve or sterss! If you feel the need for chocolate.. DO IT! If you don't feed your craving then you just try to fill it with other stuff and that is worse becasue eventually you give in! Do what feels right for you and remember... a little belly and a gorgeous cuddly miracle.. or no belly and a slim pair of jeans.. REALLY.. there's no contest! AND DRINK TONS OF WATER!! One glass before each meal.. with each meal and it will help!!!!!!!
I wish you the best of luck!

Dear T.,
My best advice to you is to add weights into your excercise regime. Also the stairs might not be enough cardio. Try to subscribe to fit tv which is on direct cable, join a gym, or get some workout videos like ti bo. Also 6 small meals a day is recommended to lose weight. You might not be eating enough. Keep a weight loss notebook and log everything you eat. Also give yourself a cheat day, that way you won't deprive yourself. If all else fails try weight watchers. I joined and have lost my baby weight and more. I have lost 30 lbs. Another tip: try waking up early to get some of your chores out of the way. I wake up at 4:30 every morning during the week and excercise and do some chores before my husband or son wakes up. I have myself and my son in bed by 8pm every night. Also shape magazine is my bible. Pick up an issue and tell me what you think. It has great motivating articles, great work out ideas and tips. According to shape magazine, "If you're excercising 30-60 in several days a week, a good rule of thumb is to eat 15 calories per pound of your goal weight. So, if you're aiming for 135lbs, have about 2,025 cal per day. If you find you are short on cal, reach for an extra serving of nutrient rich foods such as nuts, whole grains, fruit, veggies and lean protein, to help you power through your workouts without putting on the pounds." Good luck T.! Please keep me posted!!!!

Hey girl, I understand about the weight thing but honestly 5'4'' and 165 sounds pretty good! Pretty normal. It's hard for women to get an accurate perspective on our bodies because we are shown all these tiny thin models and actresses but that is not reality. It sounds like you are eating right and exercising a lot and that is the most inportant thing and all you can do. Maybe you can learn to love and accept your body a little more. I am 5'3'' and 175 and yes I have some belly flab but when you are a working mom you can't spend all day exercising and eating salads! I have come to love my body either way.
Good Luck, S.

You said you are eating three meals a day, analyze what are you eating for those three meals? Really, for me to get the weight off after DS was born, I cut back to a 1200 calorie/20 grams of fat a day plan. Between that and walking for an hour a day, the weight flew off and best of all, it has stayed off. I think supplements can help, but to have a healthy weight loss as well as weight that will stay off, diet and exercise are the only way to go.

Have you considered having your thyroid function checked? That could be the reason for your tiredness and the inability to get rid of the "baby weight". Also remember that it takes 12-18 months for our bodies to recover from a pregnancy so give yourself a little slack. Get hubby to take him for a bit in the evening so you can find a girlfriend to go mall walking with or something. If hubby can't or won't, then pack the stroller, snacks for the munchkin and hit the mall anyway. You have to expend energy to get energy. It does not magically appear. Another thing that may sound crazy is that you still may be in the "danger zone" for post partum depression and that looks like different things for different people. My girlfriend considered suicide, I was tired all the time and fell asleep typing at work. There are different ways you can be affected so please have your thyroid checked and be evaluated for PPD. Hopefully, neither of these will be problems for you and a different type of exercise will be enough to jumpstart you over the weightloss threshold.

Good luck and enjoy that baby.....the baby you push in the stroller today will be the adult pushing you in the wheelchair tomorrow (quote from my mother)

Dear T.:
Have you tried jogging long distance? Most marathon runners are pretty lean. After a few miles, you start burning fat (first ATP, then sugar, then fat). It may take a while to get there, so you can start easy, and you can alternate running and walking to not overdo it. The speed does not matter, the distance does. If you can start with 1/2 mile and work your way up, you should soon get to the distance where you burn fat. If you feel uncomfortable among other lean people, just keep in mind you are doing something about it to get there.

You may also want to look into power walking, which is easier on your joints. Again, the desired burning of fat does not set in until after a certain distance, so literally go the extra mile if you can.

Ciao,
W.

I lost a ton of weight by using my son as a gradually growing weight system. The best thing I found for my belly is laying on the floor with my feet in the air. Chai is an "airplane" while I pump my legs up, down, and to the sides. great for that little pooch at the bottom that won't go away. Keep your abs and butt tight. Also, a yoga move, be a table, with your shomachup, and as flat as a table...A mommy table!!! Along with playing with them, you are working out. When running around the house after him, keep your stomach tight. Cleaning house in heels will give you a GREAT Butt. Best of luck! btw, I'm 5'4" and was 180 right before I had him, now I'm 130 and SO happy. it only takes doing what you're doing in a little different way.

Hi T.! I'm in the same boat. We are the same height and weight. My son is almost 11mo. and I've been trying sooooo hard to loose the wieght. It is finally melting off. I limit my carbs and sugar intake. I eat several times a day to keep my metabolism in gear. I have also started walking every morning at Memorial park. I bring my son with me and walk about 2 miles. I see that you're married, have your husband help out with the work around the house and give yourself 30min. for a quick workout. If you can do this at least 3 times a week you'll see the resutls! I know it's very hard to balance everything, but if you don't do it you'll feel even worse. I hope this has helped. Remember to ask your husband for help. You NEED you time. It took me awhile to figure that out myself, but now that I made this new schd. for myself, I feel soooo much better. I have more energy and my mind seems to be more clear. Good luck to you!

It sounds like you do a lot when you get home and does not sound like you get much help from your husband.
I am not a fitness expert or anything. But, instead of eating 3 meals a day you should be eating more like six (small meals). My regular day consists of yogurt for breakfast, then I will have cereal (dry since I do not like milk) or fruit as a snack mid morning. I usually have a lean cuisine or healthy choice meal for lunch then I will have a mid afternoon snack of fruit or raw veggies. I then have dinner at about 6:30 Pm or 7:00 PM. When my daughter was born I breast fed her. When she went on formula I did weight watchers and lost 15 pounds. But I also exercise. I understand about being tired because I also have a busy day when I get home. My husband travels for work and a lot of times it is just me and my little girl. She is 3 now. I recently found a gym near my job so I go to the gym at lunch and started taking spin and step classes. I can physically see a difference but I was not seeing a difference in weight loss. So now I am going to start spending more time on the treadmill and elliptical machine so I can see some weight loss. I am not heavy (5'2'' and 130 lbs.) but for me to be happy I need to get back to where I used to be (115 lbs. - 120 lbs.). I know it is hard but you have to make time for yourself otherwise you'll be like me, still trying to lose the weight after 3 years.

Hey T.,
I found that not eating anything after 6pm really helps because after 7pm that food just sits in your stomach all night. That, and also drinking a LOT of water. Drink a glass before and after each meal. It helps you not eat too much and it helps flush out what you do eat. Also, stay away from fast foods and grease if you can help it. Eating clean can do wonders for your energy level and weight loss. Good luck!
