Hey Ladies....

....I am officially 39 weeks pregnant today. 48 hours ago I had my membranes stripped at my dr appt. I was 4cm and 90% effaced already. The doctor figured this with a combination of walking and a hot shower would send me into labor...NO SUCH LUCK!!

My main concern or question is, any of you mommies have this done? If so how long did you bleed and spot for?! I am still bleeding/spotting. I should say its more of a bloody discharge. I was concerned yesterday and called the oncall nurse and she told me not to worry. But now its been a full 2 days and I am still spotting. Sometimes its alittle blood sometimes its a lot. it has stopped a few times and started back up. its weird. I had my membranes stripped with my first daughter but I dont remember it being like this at all!!??

any advice or stories on what you went through is more then welcome. I appreciate it!!!

What can I do next?

I had the same thing done and thought it was one of THE MOST PAINFUL things I had ever gone through. It didn't work either. What we feel DID work was nipple stimulation. Google it. My husband swears by this method and he said it was "fun" helping. Men will be men. LOL!!! Good luck.

I don't know how long you will bleed for but try other things to induce labor. Such as sex, walking, cleaning, or stairs. These are the things I know work, but really the baby will come when it's ready!

I had my membranes stripped with my son after being dilated at 4.5cm for 1.5 weeks. About 30 hours after having them stripped, I went into the hospital and would not leave until I was induced. Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands. If you feel like you should be having this baby, it can be done! :)

A.,
I also had my membranes stripped with my 1st baby, two times. I bled both times, but also went into labor twice (the first time the meds they gave me stopped the labor) and I didn't bleed very much, but it was for about two days. The second time I just went straight to the hospital and had my son! It brought on labor for me both times, but the second time I knew for sure he was coming because the contractions were much harder. Bleeding is normal when your membranes are stripped but as always with a pregnacy, if the bleeding is heavy you should be concerned and call your doctor. Good luck!

hi A., if you have not already gone into labor, good luck,it is comming soooon. :) as for the bleeding, my sister n law just had a baby 3 weeks ago and she had the same thing happen until she delivered 7 days later. CRAZY huh, i thought something was wrong, she went to the hospital to be discharged twice. finally she went in and it was still 12 hours later. if they say it's fine, guess so. good luck. you will need it. Mine is 14 months and it has been the best ride of my life.

This is all normal...unless the blood is running down your leg there is nothing that they will do for it!! Trust me i am a labor nurse!! It is only a hassle for you!!

your baby will come when they are meant to come...you won't be pregnant forever, i promise!! Enjoy the time with your baby inside...they are mush more difficult out here...especially when you have another little one to chase after!! GOod luck!

I have had 4 children, sex and walking always did it for me, semen will help to strip the membranes (thats what I was always told), I had a 3 of my 4 children 2 weeks ahead of schedule doing this, and 1 was 3 weeks early. Good Luck and take care.!

I had mine stripped at 37 weeks, then again at 38, then again at 39....I bled the whole time. Not hard but enough that I had to wear something. Good luck! Your body could just be getting ready to deliver! I don't think there is anything to worry about though! Good luck!

I have only had one baby so far, and had to have this done because I was almost 2 weeks over my estimated due date (I think they were off). Well we went in on a Saturday morning and that night I started having small contractions and all through the next day, although I didn't hardly bleed. My son was finally born monday night just after 11pm. So it did take almost 3 days for him to come after this, but I would suggest as long as you are feeling ok and you keep in touch with the doctors you dont need to worry. Besides if you get really concerned you can always go in for a quick checkup to see how things are progressing and make sure all is well.
Hope all works out, my prayers are with ya!

Hi A.,

My doctor stripped my membranes at about 38+ weeks- and I was at 3cm/maybe 30% (on Monday)... he told me "see you tonight"- well, I did bleed/spot for the rest of the day and into the next, but it did not send me into labor. Wednesday morning I started to lose my mucus plug- and had blood streaked goo, but no cramping. Thursday- again more blood streaked goo, but no cramping. I went hiking Thurs morning- felt great- no contractions... But contractions did start about 7pm that night. Friday morning I lost the rest of my mucus plug- and was having very consistent contractions- so we went to the hospital... My son was born at 1am on Sat...

So... I would say that I had "spotting" almost that entire week- but because I wasn't cramping or having contractions- it just wasn't time. I'd say if it's more than spotting- and it's actually very bloody discharge- just go in and get checked- 2nd babies are known to come faster!!! But realize that your baby will come when she's ready- stripping the membranes only works if she's ready! :)

I had mine stripped the day before I was due and had my son within 48 hours. I had light spotting. If your doc/nurse seems to think you are fine, then I wouldn't worry too much. Hang in there, she will be here before you know it!

A.,
It's so different with every pregnancy. With all I bleed on and off, your main concern would probably be if your bag broke. With my 1st they scrapped me and I went in that night. With our 2nd she didn't come for a week after they scrapped me. With my 3rd he came the same day & with my 4th he didn't come until 3-4 days. I will be scrapped again with our 5th, I just hope this one chooses to come between the day they scrap me to about the next day! Best luck! A. G

I had my membranes stripped with my second - did n't work for me either, but I don't remember bleeding much - maybe just a little spotting. If you are really concerned you should go into the emergency and have it checked out - better to be safe - in my opinion. Always error on the side of caution.

I had mine stripped, spotted for a couple of days, but ended up being induce 4 days late.

At 4cm, usually if you end up at the hospital they will keep you, but I would rather spend as much time at home before I had to go in. But if you are that concerned about the bleeding, you can always go in to get doubled checked.

Good Luck!

With my first i had my membranes stripped, and I didn't bleed or spot like you have been. I delivered late evening the next day after being stripped. My son was 3 wks. early. We could have been off a little on the due date. I would see your OBGYN just to be sure. Good luck!
