I have twins who will be 6 months old in December. All my family is trying to get christmas lists from me but I am a first time mom and have no idea what i will need when my babies are 6-9 months. I know what i'm looking for now but does anyone have any advice on must haves or essentials they couldn't live without when their babies were 6-9 months.

What can I do next?

Why not request bonds or ask them to set some money aside for college? OR start a hope chest, slowly filling it every year with things they'll eventually need when they're out on their own.

Babies get spoiled, rarely need much, and don't really 'play' with anything yet.

Books are ALWAYS great, because the baby can eventually grow into them :)

I guess with that age (6-9mo) they are getting more curious about their world so toys they can interact with for sure. Maybe ask for baby gates as crawling will begin as well as other safety measures like cabinet locks, plug inserts etc... My babies that age also all loved their exersaucers. They grow fast too so any clothing they can grow into. Some babies even begin walking as scary as that is, so maybe ask for some Robeez shoes.

my twins are 9 months old, their first birthday will fall on Thanksgiving this year! For us, bumbo seats are a life saver, along with their walkers. But for us, when people ask what they need or what we want for them we always say diapers first. Our oldes is 2 1/2 and is still in diapers so as you can imagine we go through tons of diapers every month. I would ask for diapers. maybe seasonal appropriate clothing if they dont have enough. My boys love the jumper thing that goes in the doorway. It really just depends on what you do and dont have. I think that they dont need tons of super thick warm clothes for the winter if they dont do out every day. I am SAHM now so our kiddo's wont be getting out much in the winter except for doctor appts and when they have their upcoming surgeries and follow up appts. But if your little one's go to daycare or a family members house then I would ask for a few really nice thick warm blankets to cover their carseats. they have those things that cover the top of the carseat, they are elastic on the sides, and they sip up and have a little flap to uncover their faces. those are really nice, we used those when our twins were first born, they were winter babies and with all the doctor appts etc (they were born with cleft lip and palate) so we had to take them out a lot those first few months. you could even think ahead farther to what they may need when they are 1. good luck and congrats on your twins!!!!!!! l LOVE BEING A TWIN MOM!!

Several people have mentioned Excersaucers and Bumbos, and I agree. Also, both of my girls loved the bouncy swing that hangs in the doorway. It was a blast for them, and fun to watch too! Books are always fantastic and can be used for a long time to come.

Don't limit yourself. Books are always good, be they board books for babies to eat or Dr. Seuss to listen to later. Clothes, in all sizes. My 3 yr old (who is slim, I admit) would sit in her Bumbo if she could find it. Those are nice.

If you get a carseat cover, get the "shower cap" style like from NoJo and NOT any kind that needs the straps to pass through. They are safer. We loved our NoJo cover.

Board books
Instruments (playskool piano is great)
Busy Beads Cube (my son still loves this at 3!)
Laugh and Learn Puppy (really cute and my son played with it for a year)
Bumbo with tray
Sippy cups
Spoons and feeding items for starting solids
We had a rubber "placemat" that we LOVED at this age- clean eating surface no matter where you go!
Exersaucer (if they don't already have one)

Remember that they will be sitting up around this time, so everything opens up for them!

My twins are 16 months now, but started walking at 8 months. The lil playzone from one step ahead with 2 extensions has really helped keep my sanity intact! It is expensive, but totally worth it. It can be used inside and out and is easily moved from room to room. Exersaucers are great, although my son was climbing out of his at 10 months, while my daughter still wants in hers for snack time. They also have a playskool tent with a moving door, a doorbell, and all sorts of toys built into it that they have enjoyed immensely since they started crawling. My 4 year old even plays in it with them.

My son was 7 months his first Christmas. I asked for books, wooden blocks, and a whole lot of other wooden toys. The small wooden grasping toys and blocks were AWESOME teethers. He would crawl around and hold those and teeth on them. They were easy to take out with us, as well. Books are always great, because they can last a really long time. We were also given a blankie, that was very nice and he still drags around.

I always asked for Diapers and formula. Everywhere gets a pack of underwear for Christmas right? Well, diapers are babies underwear!

Convertible Car seats - true your babies may not be ready for them at Christmas, but its the perfect time to ask because they will need them soon after and people are usually okay with spending big on babies at Christmas. Even if you just get one, that's one that you don't have to buy yourself.
