Seeking a Good School/Daycare for My 4 Year Old

HELP! My daughter just turned four and I am looking for a GOOD Private School or Daycare to put her in. I'm interested in a preschool program, something that will challenge her and not just "play" all day. We've been there and done that! It would be awesome if the school was 2 to 3 days out of the week and for just a couple of hours each day. I tried Public Pre-K but, we don't qualify. I also need it to be affordable and in the North Dallas/Plano area. I use to work at a daycare so... my expectations are high.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your responses. We have decided to enroll our daughter in Christ United Methodist Church's MDO program. We checked out some of the ones recommended below and felt this one is the best match for us. Thanks again!!!

Faith Lutheran School in Plano has a wonderful preschool program. All 3 of my children attended there and had a great foundation. They are all thriving in elementary school. Here's the website. www.faithplanoschool.org

The Plano and Russell Creek YMCA have a wonderful preschool/MDO program. I had my daughter in the Russell Creek location, and the teachers are wonderful. They have a 5 day, 3 day or 2 day a week program that runs from 9-2 p.m. Their prices are so reasonabe.

Hope that helps.

I don't know if Coppell is too far for you, but in the event it is not,I'd look at Discover and Share at Beltline and MacArthur. They have a web site. They are accredited. My son attended both PK and Kinder with them as he missed the cut off last year for public kinder. I am very happy with what he has received in their care. The owners are exceptional people, as are the employees they hire. The teachers all strive to know your child regardless if they are infant teacher, PK, Kinder etc. It is a very comfortable, unstuffy, environment. Family friendly.

It maybe a little more out of your way, but I did know some Moms who commuted to this school after the moved out that way. The school I send my son to is Montessori Episcopal School in Lewisville. They have a web site at www.montessoriepiscopal.com
I know all of the teachers there personally and they are all dedicated to the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Religious Curriculum that is used along with the Montessori works.

I don't know if you are well acquainted with the Montessori approach to learning, but after just two years of this type of education my 3 1/2 year old loves to learn, he is a reader, he loves numbers, math, science and geography. He can dress himself (button jackets, zip coats) and he is working on tying his shoes. But what I think is most important is that even though he is learning a significant amount he still loves going to school everyday to learn more, plus he is able to help other children in his class learn concepts he has already been introduced to, this help his understanding as well as providing a strong since of community and responsibility for the education and help of others.

You will also find MES to have very strong parental involvement in the classrooms and PTO, it’s great for the kids because they really feel loved from so many involved parents in their classrooms. It is like one big happy family, I can’t say enough great things about this wonderful school.)
Good luck!

We love the Ark Preschool. I believe there might be a few openings left for this year and they are pretty flexible with dates - can go one-five days a week and the school is open from 9-2. Check it out at www.thearkpreschool.org. It's a part of Res. Luth. Church - SW corner of Independence and Park.

I'm not sure how many openings are left for her age, but my son was at Suncreek Children's Development Center last year and will be there again this year. I am very impressed at how much he learned this past year! It is definantly not playing all day, although they do have a lot of fun! They program for 3 and 4 year olds is M,W,F from 9-2. You can find more info at www.suncreekumc.org. Look under the Children's Ministry link. They are located at Suncreek Dr and McDermott in Allen, that might be too far for you, but it's a great program!

The best preschool around is Primrose schools. Primrose School of North Plano and Forest Creek are the best in Plano. They sound like they are exactly what you are looking for. The same family owns both, and have nothing but the highest standards. I would not have my children anywhere else. You should go check them out. The phone number to the Hedgcoxe location is ###-###-####.

Good luck!

I am also looking for a pre-school option for my four year old in preparation for elementary school. He only had day care from grandparents down the street. I have an appt. at a Montessori school on Hedgecoxe next Tuesday. From your experience working at daycares, what should I expect and what should I look for in a Montessori vs. traditional daycare?

At 2 counting to 30 and ABC's -etc. I love the fact that they have Math, Spanish, Music, Gross Motor, Language Development, Science, Computers, Art, etc...and not in 1 room all day long!

My twin 4 yr old girls are now at the new Children's Choice at 190 and George Bush. They are flexible on the days and times, and my girls have really learned a lot in the few months they have been there. At the same time, they truly enjoy going every day; they were mad this morning that they could not go to see their friends at Children's Choice. They learn citizenship, manners, as well as numbers, letters and listening. The teacher for the 4 yr olds is just a wonderful woman. I have heard very good things about several of the ones mentioned above, too, such as Messiah's Lamb and Primrose.

The Primrose curriculum is fantastic! I have had both of my daughters at Primrose-Bedford since they were 1 and they love it. I love how much they learn, both educationally and emotionally, while they're having fun. I also worked at a daycare while in college so I also had very high expectations that Primrose has met at every turn.

My sister, a former preschool teacher, is going to be runnning an in home private preschool for that age group this fall in McKinney on the edge of Frisco. She has room for one more child and the other kids are all also 4 yrs old. (they missed the kindergarten cutoff by a month or 2, so they need to be challenged as well) She has one assistant and only 2 kids (plus my child), she will only take 4 max. She has a full curriculum, including spanish once per week, and will do full time or part time. If you want more info, contact me through here or email ____@____.com.

Hi!
A new one to add to the mix... APPLE CREEK PRIVATE PRESCHOOL is GREAT!! They have a location in Allen (hedgecoxe & alma) and in Frisco (on stonebrook pkwy). They have half day academic preschool programs. The options are either MWF or TTH...morning or afternoon...unless it's preK program...then it's 5 days a week in AM or PM. My daughter went last year and will start there again this year....she loves it! I love the focus on learning...in a fun way...and the part where she eats and sleeps at home. Her time there is strictly for school things. We love it!!! They have a website....

My two older boys went to Early Learning Center, which is associated with First Christian Church in Richardson (Main Street, which is Belt Line west of 75, and Grove, a little east of 75.) It is fabulous, and is for a few hours each day. Your child can go M-F, MWF, or TR. Here is the web site: http://www.fccrichardson.org/ELC.HTML. It is NAEYC accredited. The director's name is Kristen Pelto, and the number is ###-###-####.
