Rash That Won't Go Away

I see several people recommended acidofilus (sp?). My pediatrician said to put it directly on the rash. Open the capsule, mix it with a little water to make a paste and put it on. If it doesn't go away soon, take the baby to a dermatologist.

Have you tried a dermatologist instead of the pediatrician? I've found that it sometimes pays to go to a doctor with a specialty in instances like this.

I know this will sound crazy but, have you tried Vics Vapor Rub??!! It really works!! I have used on my kids.

Did you try the purple Desitin cream? It's hands down the best.

I think you're also right to check her diet. The more orange it is, the higher in acidity (the green-er and grain-ier, the less). My daughter has high acidity issues so I have to stay on top of that all the time. And yes, hands down when her acidity is higher, she'll get a diaper rash and such. Hope that helps!

D., let me congratulate you on being a foster mom, you have to be a very special person to do it.
Talk to the case worker responsible for the baby. I have to wonder why this rash got worse after being with her mother. Also try giving her yogurt, if in fact it is a fungal infection, the yogurt will put back the good bacteria in her system and hopefully clear up the rash. My daughter gets yeast infections and so do I (they say it runs in families), our doctors all said to eat yogurt regularly and to give it to the babies as soon as they were old enough. I would also ask the doctor what the fungus is and possibly suggest taking her to a dermatologist if it doesn't clear up.

My sons have sometimes gotten something similar and nothing seemed to help. I think it was a form of eczema which they have as it is. My oldest would get it on his stomach and my middle son would get it on the small of his back just above his butt.

I wash them in Arbonne's Baby Care Wash and then use the Arbonne Baby Care Lotion as needed. If they have the rash currently, I put lotion on that spot once or twice a day and it's usually gone in about a week. I also use the Arbonne Baby Care Diaper Rash Cream on the baby and when it came to my middle son who seemed to constantly have diaper rashes, it was a Godsend!

I don't know what advice to give about the rash, but I just wanted to applaud you for being a foster parent. It's something I've always wanted to do as well, and I just think it takes very special people with amazing hearts to be foster parents.

I would ask your doctor about the cream Vusion, my now 1 yr old had a horrible rash before Christams that we could not get rid of, I am a huge fan of triple Paste and this would not touch it, we took her to the Ped. and we did the nystatin and it did not touch it, he then had us use the Vusion and it took care of it, slowly but it worked, if I remember correctly it took almost 2 months to completely clear up, it got worse before it got better. She was red from front to back, where her diaper sat. We changed diapers and wipes and everthing would start to make a difference but only for a few days, it was the Vusion that that was the miracle! Luckily she did not seem to be to bothered by it. Here is a trick my grandmother recommended, have her lay on a waterproof pad bare butt in the sun, I am not sure why this works but my gram was not the only one who told me to do this. Best of luck.

I was just wondering if maybe when mom has her she may be using a different type of diaper or wipes that the child is sensitive to?

aloe vera gel and juice may help. I mixed aloe vera juice in thier juice and put the gel on the rash for my kids, along with sweet almond oil too. i had a rash that started from an allergic reaction to laundry detergent, under my breasts, it would not clear up. my doctor had my using cornstarch and it helped for a while and then stopped. i found sweet almond oil in the local healthfood store and started to apply it to the rash and it went away, it even cleared up the scaring from the rash. it is worth a try and can't hurt him. as long as you are sure its a yeast infection, i would just keep at what you are doing and do a google search on yeast infections in infants. from what i read, it is very common, and for some, very difficult or impossible to fully cure. i personally wait for milk solids, but if you dont have a problem, i would def give her yogurt daily.
the only thing i would go to a dermatologist and confirm as well as ask about the scenario of the rash forming in the 10 days, why did that happen. i would also be trying to get info on how it could come back that much from just one day with the mother, just to make sure there is no reason for concern. i just say get more info on how yeast works, and maybe at the same time go to an allergists. im not sure how medical specialist visits work with foster care, but hopefully she will be covered, then you can try to get some answers.

my kids get bad bum rashes from grapes, raisins,strawberries and possibly pineapple. not sure if she is eating any of these...

It sounds like a yeast infection. Fruit can aggravate those. Ask your doctor about creams for yeast infections.

If it is not a yeast infection, it could also be an allergic reaction to your laundry detergent or fabric softener. Stop using any fabric softener on her clothing. One cup of vinegar in your wash rinse cycle will remove soap residue, plus it softens clothes naturally. Don't worry about the smell, it dissapates quickly after drying.

Hi there. A fungal rash (yeast) is really hard to get rid of. One thing that would be good to add to her diet is acidophilis. The problem is on the inside and it's manifesting itself on the outside. What is her diet like? I know she's still little, but is she drinking any juice or anything? Or was she when you were away which is when it developed, right? Any kind of sugar will make it worse. Try the acidophilis and see if it helps.

are you using huggies by any chance? i could only use luvs on my daughter because she would get a rash that wouldnt go away from the huggies

My daughter once had a rash that started in the diaper are and then slowly spread. It turned out to be folliculitis and she needed to be put on an antibiotic to clear it. Perhaps this could be the culprit and not fungus.

My daughter had some awful diaper rashes, and I was like you, constantly checking her pants. I found that applying Calmoseptine Ointment on top of whatever your pediatrican prescribes really helps. The ointment basically adds a barrier so that the prescription cream doesn't just rub off. I have also used it by itself. It works really well and is available at the drugstore. It is not a prescription, but you do have to ask the pharmicist for it. I also agree with the moms, checking her diet and adding acidophillus helps!

There are several reasons that might trigger her rash: different animals ( even if you have a short hair cat, and another house has a long hair cat), different diaper's wipes, soap that is being used, right down to different type of heating being used. My both of my daughter's suffered from " hot temp. outside rahses", I SWEAR by AVENO oatmeal bath and diaper rash onitment.With my daughter's when they developed a rash during the day I would put them into a "warm" ( more cold then hot) bath and let them soak in it, and take a wash cloth and drip water all over them. They would have to take baths like that periodically throughout the day, and that seemed to help ALOT, and at night that is when they would get a BATH ( wash up with soap). I would ask the mom, or if you really don't talk much to her, I would pack up a bag with all the stuff you use on the little one and send it with her for the lengh of time that she has her. An allergic reaction to laundry soap being used according to the doctor's will be all over the skin, but that's bull because my little one's have a reaction to ALL, and it happens ONLY in their more sensitive area's ( private's, arm pit's and neck), I break out on my back. Hi D.--Did the other house have a cat or a dog? Is it possible it is an allergic reaction that was not correctly diagnosed? If so, why not get her tested for allergies?

Ask Your pediatrician about adding acidopholis to her diet. Many years ago my daughter had a fungal diaper rash. What helped was putting the powder from an acidopholis capsule in her food once or twice a day.
