Rash from Clothing Tags

My now 5 year old son has always HATED tags. He always asks me to cut them off. There are certain ones that don't bother him for some reason. But especially clothes from the Disney store (before they started just printing them on the material itself...what a great idea) they especially bother him. There's like 2 or 3 tags usually. Anyway, I never bothered writing on the clothing the size and my 2 year old is now wearing all hand me downs. You usually can guesstimate the size. Every once in a while I wish I knew but in general it doesn't really matter. Plus I remember how old my 5 year old was when he wore most of it so that helps. :)

That was a good idea though someone else left about using a fabric marker or something if you really want to know. I don't know if I was much help, but just wanted to tell you that we had and still have the same issue. He had LOADS of beautiful hand me downs which are ending like now. I need to go shopping now and I think I'll stick to old navy and gap or whoever makes those print on the material tags.

I would recommend that you buy clothes that have the sizes printed on the clothing. BabyGap and Old Navy have clothes without tags. I actually prefer to shop at BabyGap because the clothes don't shrink after washing and the cotton is very comfortable and breathable. I usually buy the sale items to cut down expenses. They always have tons of clothing on sale.

I know exactly what you mean ... my son used to get a rash on the back of his neck from wearing his bibs! Have you tried a little Neosporin? If you put that on his neck before bed, it will probably clear up by morning. That stuff works wonders, and my doctor said that there's no harm in using it. Even when he started crawling, his knees would get a little red. I'd rub a little Neo on in the morning before he ate breakfast, and the redness was gone by the time he was done eating! Good luck! cut out the tags and write in the size with permanent marker

Cut off the tags and heal the problem....as your child out grows his clothing, you can use a water proof marker on the inside of the garment to mark the size before packing it away for the future.....

most clothing tags contain formaldehyde in them...I know it's crazy sounding but true! Your son maybe having an allergic reaction to the actual tags(or formaldehyde in them)... my advice is there are many brands of clothing that are tag-less or printed tags...oldnavy, gap, childrens place, walmart and target...buy those...if you find something that you love that has a tag and don't want to cut out the tags...layer!!! I put undershirts and onesis on all of my kids and winter is coming so it'll have 2 major benefits!

I've never had this problem, but there are kids' clothing lines out there that are tagless...the size and other information is printed on the inside of the shirt. Another possibility (at least when it's cooler)is to put a tagless undershirt on him to block contact with the tags. But I would think that after several washings, whatever he's reacting to in the tags would be washed away, wouldn't it?

Well, that is quite interesting, can't say that I have heard this one before. I'm allergic/sensitive to many materials including the elastic band of all underwear, and the surgical staples, stitches, surgical glue and surgical tape the docs use to put me back together after a c-section (I've endured this 3 times so far) I've not heard of a tag allergy...I wonder what the specific problem is with the tags...might be worth a trip to an allergist.

Meanwhile, you could cut the tags and use a fabric marker to mark the size of the clothing...or you could put a bandaid or first aid tape over the tags instead of on the baby...or you could sew a cloth swatch over the top of the tags, so they don't touch his skin.

I'll be curious to hear how this turns out. I'm sorry you and your baby are having this issue.

I take the tags out of all my kids cloths, especially tops. I can't stand to have them in the cloths I wear so I do the same thing for my kids. I have noticed that a lot of the clothing now is tagless which is wonderful. As for the rash, your son is only 1, I wouldn't put a bandaid, my son ate his when he was that age and got it stuck in his throat, luckily I was able to get it out; now I am nervous about bandaids when they go for a nap or to bed for the night.
