I'd just be happy if my child wouldn't drink juice. It's not something that they need. As long as he is drinking his formula and some water he'll be more than fine. My kids only get a cup of juice a day, if that, and it is so watered down that my daughter (who's three) won't drink it anyway. It'll save on their teeth and help you enforce healthy snacks and treats as they get older.

Neither of my kids like juice. THey are 3 1/2 and 15 mos. They've never been wild about it, it really isn't a big deal. Don't worry about it.

Hi K.,
Why do you want him to drink juice? At 7 months he doesn't need juice. Formula or breast milk is the only liquid (other than water) that he needs. Be happy he won't drink juice. Juice is filled with sugar and most peds. will tell you to limit any juice.

I have a 6 year old that has never liked to drink juice (but my other three kids do like to drink it occassionally). So, skip the juice and give your son something different.

Hello K.,

I have a 9 month old daughter and I have never given her juice. She drinks her formula and water when she is thirsty. Our pediatrician has asked if we have given her juice, and I told her no. She said juice is not bad for them it's just empty calories. So if your little one doesn't like juice try some water. My daughter loves water in her cup.

Best of luck

Water is really the best for babies...but with my first, I had to put a small bit of juice in the water to flavor it. They need to drink, especially once they've started solids so it's good you want to figure out how to get him to. My one year old boy is absolutely crazy about straws!!! Plain straws or straw cups. He'll drink so much if there is a straw. He even asks me for drinks. This is what worked for us. Maybe it would work for you guys too.

they do not need juice. My son never had juice untill he was probably 2 or 3 and that was only when we were at parties, I guess juice is his pop because he has never had pop. He is 5 yrs old and he is my water boy. Even when we go out he wants water to drink once in a great while he will ask for white milk or fruit punch, but it is rare. My ped also said that juice is not important to a child most of it is sugar water and he told us not to diluite it because that takes from some of the nutrution it has. Since I have been pregnant I have been drinking this juice called VRUIT it is all natrual and very good he will drink that once in awhile. But the BEST way to have juice is taken fruit and veggies and making your own juice in a juicer.

My son was the same way. When I asked my ped. about it she said that it was OK because the juice was extra calories anyway. However, I did have him on water. And to this day he loves his water. He will ask for that over juice, pop, koolaid etc...
Just give him tim and keep offering it every now and then. Just like foods, he'll get used to it and drink when he is ready. Everything is when HE is ready... so much for us parents having the control :- )

Good Luck!

That sounds like a bleesing in disguise. Juice is so full of sugar and chemical unless you are juicing yourself with organic fruit and veggies at home. Mother's milk/ formula and filtered water is best. And just because your ped tells you to do something or not does not make them right. I love my ped but don't always take their advice, I ask around like you did and make a decision on my findings and what feels right as a mother to me.

I disagree with the idea that it's empty calories, because there are vitmins in it, if you choose a quality juice. However, it's not really an issue if your baby is eating fruits and veggies in baby food form. I wouldn't sweat it. Maybe your child just doesn't like sweet stuff. That could be a major blessing, not because of the juice, so much as the fact that you might be able to avoid all of the struggles of keeping your child away from soda and candy later on. Try not to sweat it.

Both my children wouldnt drink juice either. I actually didnt introduce it until they were about 1 year old on my doc's advice. When I did they didnt like it. They are 8 and 9 years old now and prefer water and milk - they didnt really like juice or pop so I would say dont even worry about it...it's better for them not to have it anyway.

I wouldn't worry that he won't drink juice. Juice is supposed to be diluted and limited anyway. If he is drinking enough formula and water, I would think he would be fine.

I'd be happy. Juice is really just sugar. Before 1 year formula and water is really all they need.

Hi K.,
I have a 2 1/2 year old son and he has never drank juice, he loves fruit apples, oranges, bananas he just won't drink juice. I tried everything you did too he just doesn't like it. He only drinks water and milk - won't even drink chocolate milk. I guess it could be worse and we could struggle with trying to get the kids to drink milk and water like some moms.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, the only time it caused any issues is when he was sick and we needed him to drink pedialyte - luckily he doesn't get sick too often.

K., hi. We dealt with this specifically when dealing with processed juices. However, we began juicing at home (apples, carrots, etc.) with a Jack La Lane (pardon the spelling) juicer and suddenly it all changed. I think our little ones tend to know instinctively when something is artificial (although, I'm assuming that you're using processed juices). If you don't have a juicer at home, I encourage you to get one. It carved the way for our young ones to enjoy natural juices over the years and now they don't really care for sodas and koolaid, etc. Also, the natural water/milk from coconuts went over well. We found that natural sweetness was the only thing satisfactory. I wish you all the best. I hope to hear a great update! Thanks and God bless, B. J.

just keep offering. I have a seven month old thats not wild about it either it took a month of offering it to her before she took it. My doc said as long as she gets 2-4 ounces its fine he will take it one of these times. Id caution on giving him plain water my ped. said never to give plain water unless it was under her dirction. My daughter also thinks she is big stuff if she is drinking it from my cup. Good Luck M.

K.,
I wouldn't bother with juice at all. You are actually lucky your child doesn't like it, most kids love it and want to drink it all the time. Most dentists, however, will tell you that it is the worst thing to give kids in terms of teeth and cavities. The best thing for babies to drink (other than breastmilk) is just plain water. Encourage them to eat fruit; they will get much more nutrition, less sugar, more fiber.

My son wouldn't drink the standard juices, which, is good. He did, however love prune juice, which we were giving him under the doctors advisement. Now, at 15 months old, he'll drink only apple juice, watered down severely, once a week or so. I agree with everyone else though, Stick with Water and Milk. Later in life he'll prefer not to drink all the sugary stuff that rots his teeth.

At this point in your babies development there is no real need for juice in his diet. He is getting all the nutrients he needs through baby food and breastmilk/bottles. There is no real benefit to juice . . . but if you really want it in your babies diet, then try using it as the liquid in your babies cereal. Instead of using water or breastmilk/formula in the cereal, mix the dry cereal with juice.

If your baby still doesn't like it after trying this, then just hold off. Continue using breastmilk/formula as the only liquid in your babies diet. There is nothing weird about that!! :o)

Dont worry juices are filled with sugar and water have known to make children teeth go bad even if said 100% juice. Have him eat whole fruits instead much better for him.White sugar is bad natural brown cane sugar is the best and your body uses it better.

If he doesn't want juice thats actually good. He doesn't need juice. He's still soo young, trust me stay away from juice for as long as you can. Water is much better anyways. So I wouldn't push juice at all.

My daughter will dring juice if I give it to her, but it always makes her have a "runny" diaper, so I don't give it to her. I think it's good not to drink juice because water and milk are best for her and her teeth. It saves me money not to have to buy it too. My son never drank juice until he was over a year old and I usually only gave him natural juice, not juice with added sugar and he still would rather drink water.
