My boyfriend has Psoriasis. He has had it his whole life. HE has a treatment called remicaide. This is an infusion treatment. He has it every 2 months. It is not working anymore. His skin is so painful and I hate that there is nothing I can do. It has spread to his unmentionables and it is painful and our sex life has come to a halt. I am OK with it because I do not want him being uncomfortable or hurt. Does anyone have this? What kinds of things do you do to treat the pain. I wish there was something I could do I feel terrible for him. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. I told him to call the dr and the dr gave him cream but its not working.

What can I do next?

Ugh, I completely feel his pain. I have had psoriasis for years. Some people get it in a few spots and some of us get it ALL OVER. It can be miserable! I used to take Remicade injections as well last year....then, much like your boyfriend, they just stopped working. My doctor says it isn't uncommon for that to happen because your body builds up immunity to the drug over time.

When the Remicade became ineffective, she switched me to Humira. I've been taking it since January and I am almost 100% clear!! Has your boyfriend done other biologic medicines before, or was Remicade his first one. If not, he needs to talk to his doctor about trying something else. I am a very BIG proponent of Humira now....not only because it has helped me so much, but because they have a fantastic program that helps you pay for it and it's not based on income, so anyone qualifies (I pay $5 a month).

I don't know how long your boyfriend has been using the cream, but it does take some time for it to work. I had the cream for that area as well and it look a little bit, but it did work.

By the way....I think you are wonderful to be so supportive of him. Psoriasis is not only physically painful at times, but it can be emotionally painful to. Having red, scaly patches all over your skin can bruise your self-esteem! Sounds like he's lucky to have such and understanding girlfriend!

If you or he has any questions, you can always PM me. :)

I have a friend who has dealt with this for a long time. He's found a nutritional program that is doing wonders. PM me and I will tell you more, and maybe we can get my friend on the phone with you or your boyfriend?

I have a family member who developed it and is a nutritional nut so researched it like crazy. She can control it with diet now. Lots of sardines. No red meat. No alcohol. That's all I remember but those are key things. I believe also no or very little wheat. The doctor was amazed how well this worked.

I have the skin disorder & accompanying arthritis. Usually when I have a bad flare-up, I get a medrol dose pack from my doctor (steroids). This is an autoimmune disorder, not just a skin disease. The steroids can help take the body's response.

I suggest he request a medrol pack from his physician, and then start seeing both a dermatologist and a rheumatologist to try to prevent future flare ups.

He could also look into the National Psorasis Foundation (they are on Facebook & have a website.). They have countless tips, suggestions, and links available to help manage the disease better.

Good luck.

My son also has Psoriasis. He found a liquid soap that a clerk at GNC suggested. I also bought Renew lotion recommended by someone on this site. He just got it 3 yrs ago and the severity varies.
It is definitely something that you must be diligent about because if you go a few days without treatment it gets bad again.
Good luck!!
Blessings!

He should ask his dermatologist about doing light therapy. i did it for my eczema and it is for psoriasis too. it worked wonders and no bad creams or medicine to deal with. Plus it helps your body make vitamin d which is great for your health!

I am sorry for what your boyfriend is going through. My husband has it (as does most of the men in his family -- dad and bro).

He just started using a cream, and was told that salt baths (with dead sea salt) could be of help...He also takes bath in baby bath oil to keep his skin moist.

we are going to an expert on tuesday for more advice. I understand phototherapy/sun therapy is also supposed to help. Also pure sunshine.

I understand from my husband that stress can trigger and aggravate it...
as we are at the beginning of our journey with it, i have not done all of the research. I would check into natural options as well.

GL and write me directly if you want to hear what we learn on Tuesday.
