Protein Breakfast Ideas

Off the earlier topic, I would love to find more ideas for a good protein-laden breakfast, which is severely hampered by several factors. I can no longer eat eggs, I don't like sweet breakfasts, and I prefer not to have bread too frequently. I love a bagel with pesto and prosciutto, but I don't want bagels every day. I am eating a cheddar and bacon quesadilla, but it's not the most healthful thing I can have. Without eggs, I feel like I rely on deli meats a lot, and I know it's not that good for me. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Thanks everyone for so many great suggestions. I'm going sausages and leftovers for now, and then I need to get more ambitious!

I love Shaklee's protein drinks. I have had one almost every morning for nearly 20 years. I love the taste and how I feel. Let me know if you are interested.

You can make a greek yogurt smoothie with yogurt, fruit and ice cubes. Yummy! (I like Chobani or Oikos.)

Yogurts - preferably Greek Yogurt - are really high in protein. Just add some fruit and some cereal or granola and you're good to go.
Cheeses - on whole grain bread - for cheese toast.
Protein shakes or smoothies.
What about egg beaters? Can you eat those?

Like Amanda W mentioned, try Cottage cheese. I snagged a recipe once that was cottage cheese, mix in cinnamon and sugar (not a lot obviously) cut up an apple (or just 1/2 depending on the size and amount you plan to eat) and chopped walnuts. High protein, good fat and a serving of dairy and fruit! I love that meal...also, when you do feel like bread, I would spread some of that same mix on a low-fat whole wheat toasted english muffin.
I used to also eat egg salad sandwiches (english muffin again) for breakfast. 2 hardboiled eggs, only one yolk. I made it low fat by using spicy brown mustard and a very, VERY, small amount of mayo, but I am always watching my fat/caloric intake too. Best of luck!

I love Trader Joe's large sausages. I am particularly fond of the chicken/turkey sweet basil pesto. It has 21 grams of protein for 1 sausage. I slice it up and pan fry it. No grease at all. I have that with an egg (know you have an aversion!), cheese and 1/2 a sandwich thin and it adds up to about 35 grams of protein. I'm diabetic and pregnant, so this has worked really well for my numbers. Good luck!

Think outside the "breakfast box." I frequently have leftover dinner for breakfast and it is incredibly filling and satisfying. The other day I had a turkey-cranberry-cream cheese-lettuce sandwich on whole wheat bread and it was so yummy! Pretty much anything you enjoy eating for lunch or dinner can be eaten in the morning as well :)

Quinoa is supposed to be high in protien also. cooks up just like rice, purchase it in the rice aisle also. cook a batch and reheat in the mornings as needed. sprinkle with cinamon, honey or agave nectar, add on walnuts, cut fruit, etc., and drizzle over with skim milk, soy, or almond milk to make a hot breakfast cereal out of it. I think it's delicious!!! Has a nice, nutty flavor.

Whey protein shakes. Cocoon nutrition has three flavors (One World Whey) that are great. Dr. Mercola also has whey protein shakes in more flavors. Are you allergic to eggs or just don't like eating them? If you are allergic to chicken eggs, try duck eggs instead. You might find them at a farmers market or at an asian grocery store. If you just have an aversion to cooked eggs, try eating them raw. I'm not kidding. Just add them to your whey protein shake and then you won't even notice them, and you will get a super protein breakfast.

A great breakfast actually sounds a lot like dinner, but leftover brown rice or quinoa with some baby bok choy, kale or broccoli, and maybe some cheese shredded on top, or yogurt on the side (yogurt and rice is ridiculously yummy). Just get, the occasional piece of meat or deli meat isn't a horrible idea for breakfast just keep it to a minimum. I'm a huge promoter for a warm breakfast full of good stuff that may be made from the night before.
ENJOY!

Depending on how bad your egg aversion is, you may find a buckwheat pancake recipe you like. Buckwheat is full of protein, and the recipe I use freezes great. I know American way is to smother with butter and syrup, but we eat them with a bit of sour cream or jam. Look into tvorog as well, if you are near Russian delis or markets catering to Russians. It's like cottage cheese but the mixture is more uniform, so the texture is more pleasant and you can make yourself a "sandwich" as follows: toast whole wheat bread to crisp, spread the tiniest bit of jam, then layer about 3 T of tvorog on top and smooth it out. Bite in and Mmm appreciatively :)

Peanut butter is a great source of protein. I know you don't want bread every day, but peanut butter toast would be good. Also, you can get those whole grain waffles and put peanut butter on them.

For another healthy choice Steel Cut Oats, soak the oats at night with vanilla and a cinnnamon stick then cook those ingredients all together in the morning. After its cooked I either eat this as is and drink a protein shake along with it or add the protein shake to my steel cut oats and eat it on the go. This way you are getting slow burning carbs and protein all in one meal...not to mention very low on sugar if you sweeten with the protein shake, splenda or Agave Nectar.

Low fat dairy - yogurt, cheese, milk
Nut butters - almond, cashew, peanut, sunflower (not technically a nut) on brown rice crackers.
Quinoa with some chopped nuts mixed in.
Make your own granola - you control the fat and sugar content plus the amount of sweet (dried fruit) v. protein (nuts) you add.

I have a protein shake every morning - Spirutein brand, vanilla flavored mixed with milk and a little oj, sometimes a little fruit if I have it handy, a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Other ideas:
Bagel with low-fat cream cheese and tomato and avocado slices.
Breakfast burrito with refried beans, salsa, other toppings.
Oatmeal topped with Greek Yogurt.
