My friend had fraternal twins and I'm looking to give her something other than your typical gift of clothing. They are her first babies, so she has all of the necessities and then some. Any creative ideas? Thanks.

WOW! Thank you all so much for the great ideas. I knew I could count on you. My ideal gift would have been to be an extra set of hands, as many of you suggested, but she lives in Arizona. Again, thank you. This was much more resourceful than typing "unique baby gifts" into the search engine.

Try giving her a gift certificate to a toy rental company, where she will get a new shipment of toys each month for about $30. I have twins too, mine are 15 months old and it is a real challenge keeping them stimulated. The BabyPlays (babyplays.com) Toy Rental Program, has solved my need for a continuous flow of clean, safe, age appropriate, stimulating toys.

The gift of music is wonderful.

I fell in love with these CD's and so I became a distributor. I have several music CD's that can be personalized with the child's name. My daughter began listening to them when she was born. When we were in the car and she would fuss, I'd play them and she would stop crying. She's 2 1/2 and she gets so excited when I put her music on.

Visit www.kiddosdelight.com for more information.

Thanks,
P.

A diaper cake would be a great idea, you could make it or order one online, and have it shipped.

see samples at http://www.candybouquetsandgifts.com/

Diaper cake section is on the bottom right hand side. It comes wrapped in tulle and is very elegant, practical and reasonable

Good luck!

A unique idea might be a custom-designed piece of artwork. I create dimensional art & could certainly come up with something that commemorates the birth of her twins.
You can check out samples & prices at my website - http://www.oneofakindbylexi.com/3dart.html - or email me at ____@____.com and I will happily answer any questions you might have. :)
Another idea is to just offer some help to her. With twins, I am sure she has her hands full...having someone to help out with housework or even helping out with the babies, giving her a moment to rest, might be just what she needs. :)
I hope you find the perfect gift for your friend! All the best!

Hi J.. Well, I don't want to seem like I'm just trying to sell my own stuff, but I do make some things that are personalized which I think is cool for twins. I have a website - www.tinytottowels.com which has pictures of some of my towels - I made personalized hooded towels for infants that will last them up until they are about 5. You can put different designs on them and then their names. I also make burp cloths that are personalized. I don't have pictures of these on my website, but I can send you some pictures if you are interested.
If you want to do the towels, and you don't see a design that you like, please let me know what you are thinking about and I can try to find a design that you like.
Please let me know if you are interested or you have any questions - ____@____.com
Oh yeah, the towels are $30 each and the burp cloths are $12-15 depending on what you want.
Thanks, P.

I got two special gifts for my last child. One was a book called My Very Own Name from iseeme.com and both my kids love to read it. That would be great for twins who have to share just about everything else - they don't have to share their name! The other was a personalized CD of kids songs with my childs name in all the songs. I don't have that with me to give you the contact but I'm sure you can google "personalized kids music cd" to find similar products. Both are big hits and very personal to each child!
Hope this helps,
Ashley

Please check out http://www.craftefamily.com/. You can get these adorable wooden blocks with the child's initial, birth weight, date, parents names, etc. Each side of the block has information about the child and the birth. They are less than $20, and so special. I give them to everyone who has a baby, and they are a huge hit.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm advertising but I have my own business and I make really thick, cute hooded towels...I would either make your own, buy some from me (customized of course) or go get some somewhere...I make them from really plush, thick towels and my girls (almost 3 and 4 months) absolutely love them...they are big and thick and keep baby warm until you put their clothes on...just a suggestion but those are some of my favorite things I've made and received as gifts:)

I did something for a special friend who had her first baby. Write a simple little poem - using the baby's (or in your case, babies') names - tiny little fingers, precious little toes, etc. then either print it off on pretty paper or have it done in calligraphy, mat it and frame it. If you wanted to get really creative, you could include a picture in a cut-out spot. You can be sure she won't get duplicates of tis one! Something else people tend to forget with the arrival of new babies is that the new mother needs pampering, too. Add a nice box of bath salts and a candle for the new mother and make the dad swear to see she gets to use it from time to time. lol

Hi. I have fraternal boy/girl twins who are now three.

The moms who responded had a lot of neat creative ideas, however thought I'd pass along a link to http://www.twinsmagazine.com If you look website there is a link on the left side to a "Twins Shoppe" section where you might get some fun gift ideas. She might also appreciate a subscription to the magazine if she doesn't have one already.

Another thought as well. If you live close to your friend and have time, sometimes the best gift you can offer is an extra set of hands. I'm not sure how much help your friend has now that her babies are home, but sometimes the first few months are a little rough as you are juggling two. If you can offer to come over one afternoon for 1-3 hours to help out. Or better yet if you can offer to spend a night and help with middle of the night feeds. Homecooked meals also make a nice gift too.

Best wishes on selecting a fun gift...

A sling or pouch might be a good idea, or a Mai Tai. Some people even wear twins in two pouches, one on either side. I've never had twins so I can't say for sure if this works well ;)

My mom had twins and she got sooo many matchy cute clothes for them (boy/girl). I can't remember if there was anything 'original' or different. It was 15 years ago.

The best baby gift I ever received was Hylands Colic Tablets. They are the best thing for helping babies with colic and they are homeopathic so you don't have to worry about using them too much. I have given them as presents to new moms and they also rave about them, they work better than any other gas reliever I have tried. You can get them at Sprouts Farmers Market, there is one in Plano off of Legacy and Coit, there are other locations but you will have to go to sprouts.com to find out where they are. You might also be able to find them at Whole Foods. I know the new mom will be singing your praises everytime she uses them. Also, if she is breast feeding she might like Soothies which are gel nursing pads, they are great for soothing and cooling sore nipples; the only place I know that sells them is Walgreens.
Good luck.

DIAPERS!!!! I know its not original but I have twins and they go through sooooo many diapers and wipes. I got a lot of really nice gifts but I didn't NEED another watchamadoozle. If you want to be creative, perhaps u can take the diapers out of the box and put 'em in a decorative basket along with some wipes, wash, lotion and towels. That is a really great gift.
As for an original idea, a photography gift certificate I'm sure would be appreciated. Newborn pics are so precious. Good luck!

You could google some free craft projects ideas. Handmade gifts are always wonderful for new moms. Also, gift cards to places like Walmart are nice so the mama can just go get whatever it is that she needs the most.

I'm a little late adding to the advice....but speaking as a mother of 20 month old twins, I know what helped me the most:

DIAPERS---people even bought some a few sizes up which was nice
MEALS---I absolutely couldn't cook. Neighbors and friends from church and work would let me know ahead of time and bring a meal already prepared (by themselves or a restaurant). Some even stayed to hold a baby so we could eat. The best even bought an extra meal to stick in the freezer that I could pull out when needed.
TIME---People came to help out for 1-3 hours. It allowed me to shower, eat, take a nap, or just have some company and assistance.

Having two babies offers so many more challenges than one. Those first few months were HARD. I enjoyed my babies and tried to savor each moment. But I couldn't have survived without help. The cute gifts were nice but the above was what fewer thought of that saved my butt. : ) You can always buy a cute gift and take with you when you offer help or a meal. : )
Hope your friend enjoys her twins. Tell her it gets easier. I wouldn't trade the experience. I love having twins.

When I had my first baby, my neighbor gave me some beautiful burp cloths with the baby's name on them. I loved them so much that I am making them now. I have given them as gifts and I have 5 friends that these are their staple gifts at every baby shower. Check out the website. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Bottles Labels! Go to www.inchbug.com They are personalized rubber bands that go around the bottles as labels. So you don't have to write the names on the bottles for daycare, church nursery's, etc. Very cool and reasonably priced. I think you get 4 of them for $12. I use them all the time for my son and they are a huge hit every where he goes. They were just recently designed by a SAHM who was tired of the black marker coming off in the dishwasher! Wish I would have thought of that!

If you want to get something that the kiddos will get use out of, but is personal, try BFara Designs. I love them! I purchased my bridesmaid's gifts and a gift for my friend and her new little one from them. Since they are located out of state, you have to order through their website: http://www.bfara.com. Brooke and Ilana are a dream to work with. I'm not sure what your budget is, but you should definitely check out this site.

yes, at I think any baby store or even Wal-Mart they sell little pastor? or cement, sets that your friend could make imprints of both the twins hands and feet to have as keep sake.

Also since she has twins after awhile they will try and climb out and play with each other. My OB talked to me about hers and said she let them stay in thier cribs, because when they got older would play with each other instead of sleep....so she bought baby tents that got over crib so they can look out but not crawl out. I think Babies R us carries them. It is simular to the sheer kind put over beds but for tots safety.

I have had the babies name made into a really nice 12x13 "picture" printed on really nice paper in a beautiful frame. It has the meaning & origiantion of the baby's first and middle name. It will never be outgrown so even if you pay $30 a piece for them, it will last for a very long time.
