Hi Mommies!
A friend of mine is look for an OB/GYN in Dallas, near Lake Highlands or Baylor Dallas Hospital, that will be sensitive to her birth plan. She does not want to use any drugs or epidural during birth and does not want to be pushed to do a C-section if things start taking too long. Does anyone know someone great?

Thanks!
B.

B. my OBGYN is wonderful I have been going to him for almost 20 years. I just can not say enough good things about him. And no he would never try to talk you into anything you weren't comfortable with. He is very respectful of my opinions. His practice is in Presby Dallas. In the Margot Peyrot building.

I tried to go natural the first time, but gave into an epidural and was just fine. The second baby was large and he prepared me (mentally) for a c-section during labor, but waited to see if I could have it naturally and I did.

Good luck and congrats!

Hi B.,
I cannot say enough GREAT WONDERFUL AMAZING things about my OBGYN at Dallas Presby! He is not only an amazing doctor, but an amazing person also! While I did use an epidural, it was my choice and NOT ANYTHING he encouraged me to do. Also, what I really appreciated more than anything is that while I induced a week after my due date, it was MY CHOICE and even though I was in labor from 6am to 1am the following day, he NEVER EVER mentioned having a C Section since both I and the baby were doing fine AND he was there at 1am for the delivery, he didn't defer to the dr on call like I know some drs do! I had the most amazing experience and I am confident Dr. Hunt would respect your friend's wishes. If she is interested in delivering at Dallas Presby, send me a private message and I will give you his name and phone number.

Hi there, I use Dr. Crochet at Baylor. She is great, as is her partner Dr. Brothers. They are both very open to natural births, as long as the mother is serious about it. Crochet had both of her over 10 pound babies naturally with a midwife, so she has the experience. They office at Baylor.

I just had my baby at Baylor Dallas 2 and a half weeks ago. So let me first explain why I love Baylor so much. At Baylor, they really want you to take control of your labor and delivery as much as possible. Yes, you can have an epidural if you would like, but they do not at all push the issue. They offer many things to help ease the discomfort of labor and they offer many diffrent ways in which you can have your baby. While laboring you are encouraged to walk around, get in the shower or tub, use the labor ball, etc; whatever helps your comfort level. When giving birth, you can give birth leaning over the bed, they have squatting bars, your support person can be sitting behind you, the beds go from laying flat on your back to sitting up and the bottum half drops down so that the bad actually becomes a birthing chair. I gave birth on my side. So there is a lot of freedom for you to take control of the birthing process. They also do what is called "kangaroo care", which means that when the baby is born they do not whisk the baby off only to leave you alone for 2 hours or longer wondering, "what is going on with my baby". Everything they do to the baby, they do it in the same room as mom. You go to the postpartum room with baby in arms and baby stays in the room with you. If you would like for them to care for baby in the nursery while you rest between feedings (which I did at night), that is completely fine too. They also assume that all babies will be breastfed. Of course if a mom chooses not to breastfeed, they will bottle feed, but if you do plan on breastfeeding and if, for instance, the baby has a difficult time latching on, they are not quick to cry formula. They want breastfeeding to be a success and they do all they can to help. Not to mention, Baylor has countless awards for their superb care.
As for an obgyn, I have dealt with three, all with Women's Health Alliance. I have dealt with Mary Plank, Rachel Kurian (both of whom are OBs) and Susan Akins, a certified midwife. I would not recommend Dr. Plank. She is very knowlegable, but is very controlling. She kind of has a way of making you feel that you are below her level of understanding, so if you are someone who wants answers, she will sugarcoat and not be honest. You get the feeling that she knows what is going on, but feel that you are being left in the dark. I really love Dr. Kurian and Dr. Akins. They both have terrific bedside manners and are both very easy to talk to. Of course midwives are traditionally known for helping people achieve all natural labors and deliveries. I heard that Dr. Akins was moving, that could have been a rumor. If she is, I know there is another midwife in the practice, and I would fully trust Dr. Kurian with a natural labor and delivery.
I hope this has been helpful!
K.

I have been with the same practice since I was old enough to see a gynecologist. My ob/gyn(DR. Leib) passed away after delivering our second child. He was wonderful. During that time I had two miscarriages and his partner (Dr. Hyslop)who I see now, was the doctor on call. WHAT BEDSIDE MANNER! WOW! He is so kind and compasstionate. His partner(Dr. Vines) is also wonderful and just delivered my fourth child. I highly recommend this practice because I have seen all of the doctors and know just what to expect if my doctor is out. I trust them so much. They are right next to Medical City Dallas. It is worth the extra trip to know I will be well taken care of. My sisters, Mom, aunt and cousins use this practice as well. There is nothing like a recommendation from someone who has had many lows and highs with the same group of doctors. They really are special. ###-###-#### Park Central OB/GYN

Yes, Yes! The Birth and Women's Center is a GREAT option. If things start looking dicey, they will just take her across the street to Baylor. A very nice option for women wanting a natural birth. She could even call there to see which area OB's they work with most frequently.

I use Dr Amy G Martin and she works from Baylor Dallas and her office is otw to the hospital, its literally 4 blocks down!!!! I absolutely love her and she is the best about listening to what you want as a patient and if you say no meds then she understands that and will not intervene unless medically possible. She is also in practice with 3 other dr's so that gives her a choice. I only saw one other Dr while Dr Martin was delivering a baby and she was good but I still refer Dr Martin. My daughter is over a year and I still send her pics and she remembers exactly who i am. She is the best Dr ever and I cannot say anything bad about her!!! They also accept most insurance plans.

My ob is Jonathan Brough at Presbyterian Dallas. He is wonderful! He delivered all 3 of my kids and is great about honoring what the mom wants. I didn't want an epidural with my first two, which he was fine with, I didn't want an episiotomy, which he also honored. Also, when I had to be induced with my second, he agreed to just break my water instead of starting pitocin right away (my son was born 2 hours later with no drugs). All of the nurses in labor and delivery love him and go to him themselves. He truly cares about his patients, will honor what they want and is a really good doctor to boot! Has she considered using a midwife?? I used one (all the way up in McKinney) and she was not only highly trained (registered nurse midwives are RNs with master degrees and attend I think 2 years of midwifey school after that) She worked in my usual OBGYN office (an OB wouyld have been called in had a C-section been necessary) and delivered my baby in a hospital where I had the option of all pain management that I would have had with an OB. (I did end up getting an epidural at 9 centimeters.) Any way, she was SO FANTASTIC and sensitive and supportive to my birth plan. I'll spare you the graphic details but she was just amazing at managing the delivery of my daughter at a relaxed pace. I will ONLY use a midwife (delivering in a hospital) in the future. Best of luck to your friend!

I had a similar birth plan and used Dr. Julie Hagood at Presbyterian. She was absolutely wonderful, and though my labor went on for a very long time (I was induced Saturday morning at 7 and didn't have my baby boy until 4 Sunday morning), she let me stick with it. She is really laid back and wonderful! She's with Walnut Hill OB/GYN
