We are thinking of getting our 7 yo son a Nintendo DSi for Christmas. Would love to get some advice on what accessories should be a definite and what we probably don't need (i.e. cases, screen protectors, etc.). Games that your kids have enjoyed (especially boys in that age group)?

Also does anyone have the Fisher Price iXL yet for younger kids? Any thoughts?

THANK YOU!

Get the Dsi XL and wait for the price to drop which will happen as soon as the new 3D one comes out. I got Nerf cases for both of my kids and neither will use them. I do think a car charger is worth it as a pack of extra styluses. I also like screen protectors for just the gross stuff kids get on the screen.

The best thing we ever got was a case for the ds itself. Travel cases are great, and a must for game storage, but a nice rubber case that will protect the ds should it get dropped is really handy.

and if you expect your son to play with it and want a lot of games over time, just get a big travel case, I've had to replace my daughters travel case twice cause we bought "cute" or "cheap" instead of practical.

My sons (5 and 6 1/2) both love hot wheels racing (or any racing game) and Bakugan.

Get one of the starter kits that has headphones and extra styluses (this is a must because they always get lost), a car charger, and get a case that you can store the games and the ds in so that it can travel to friends' houses and in the car. When my oldest was younger he liked all the games that went with his favorite cartoons. Mario games are always a big hit here.
