Hi All,

Does anyone know if it is important for Triplets to sleep together for the first weeks or a certain period of time when you bring them home from the hospital? Do they feel more secure if they are close together? What did your OB/GYN suggest?

Thank you for your responses :) We really appreciate all of the love & concern of all of you wonderful ladies!!!

Blessings to all,

K.

My sister in law had her twins together for a few months but with twins they need some room. Personal opinion keep them together for a little then seperate because of room. Good luck! If you ever want to work from home and need some extra money let me know. You will need it for all those diapers, good luck!

wow, triplets. my first thing to say is congrats and good luck. you will certanily have not only a lot of fun and love but you will be busy. I have read, but no personal experience w/ that it is good for them to sleep together bc they are used to it: that makes sense to me. and I have heard that it is a good idea to move them if you notice that they are not sleeping well or if they are moving too much risking hurting themselves. each child will like something diff. too one fo them might want to sleep alone with the others together. hope this helps a bit.

The answers will vary. I have twins, and, before they were born I read that when multiples sleep together they have stronger vital signs and sleep better. But, other things I've read said do not have siblings sleep together because of the risk of SIDS (although, I think this last part was aimed more for older siblings). We kept our boys in the same crib until they were seven weeks old. The general consensus I've found with my multiples friends is that you can keep them together until they start to move around in the crib or seem cramped.

A word of advice! In my multiples group, we've discussed the ages that twins were separated into their own cribs. Moms who went past the four month mark really wish they would have separated earlier. Their babies seemed to have a much more difficult transition than those of us who did it sooner.

I have identical twin girls and they slept together until they couldn't fit in the bed comfortably together anymore. They got too big and started rolling into each other and waking each other up. It was also easier for me especially when they were sleeping in their bassinet beside me.

Wow! Congratulations!
We had twins almost two years ago. They were born one day short of 34 weeks and spent 17 days in the NICU. The first three days they were in isolettes and seperated. When they graduated to the next level up I requested that they be put in a crib together. The next day when we visited, the nurse said that as soon as they put them together their heart rate and temperatures regulated. They stayed that way the rest of the days in NICU, so we kept them together when we got them home. We seperated them and they started waking at night again. We put them back together, but now they are big enough that they roll onto each other and kick each other in their sleep, so we seperated them when someone wakes up.
My vote will be to keep them together! Good luck!
Beth

I have triplets, so I know exactly what you are in for! My babies spent 10-16 weeks in the NICU. They were required to be in separate isolettes, so they were already used to sleeping alone even before we got them home. Once home, we tried to sleep them together, but they kept pulling on each others tubes and monitors... It was just better all around to put them in separate cribs. But they did spend a lot of time snuggling at nap time or play time on a blanket on the floor. They did seem to enjoy the touch and feel of one another.

Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions about being the mom of a triplet! It's lots of fun but, but you are certainly going to run into your share of challenges!

Good luck! And congrats!

I have 2 sets of twins. The first set slept together as babies. The second set are 4 and they still sleep together.
