So I've done some research and studies have shown that good ol' classical music promotes learning and developmental skills in children. Apparently, my son is at a good age to play the music as he plays and sleeps. So with that said, do any of you ladies have a good suggestion for a classical CD I can play for him? And where can I go to buy your favorites? Thanks in advance. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the suggestions. Unfortunately I have the whole collection of baby einstein and every time I put it on, he leaves the room or won't go to sleep. :( It worked well when he was a baby but after the year old mark he stopped enjoying them. I will try the lullaby one once he's already asleep and we'll see what happens.

Ditto to what Michele R said on the CD selection. My son has three CD's in his room: Classical Lullabye's - Einstein collection, Miracle by Celine Dion, and an Enya CD...I don't remember the name of the CD, but the second song is called Wild Child. He likes to hold my face while I sing it, and he'll sing it with me. (He'll be three in 9 days!) I also made up my own lullabye that I have been singing to him since he was months old that puts him to sleep almost instantly. Isn't that insane!?!?! It's really simple, and the music is another lullabye that I can't remember, but MY words are: 'go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep my (insert term of endearment here and childs name) it's okay to go to sleep, mommy is right here, say good night and go to sleep you will have lots of dreams, say good night and go to sleep you will have lots of dreams.' I sing it over and over and he's out in minutes. Unless he's fighting his sleep then he'll sing with me and it comes out sounding a little punk rock-ish. LoL!!

In the car he'll listen to the Cars soundtrack (and sing along) or this other Disney movie buddy soundtrack and he'll sing along to that too. Unless Daddy is listening to The Ticket in which DS will sing, "stick it up your tailpipe". Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I'm not a fan of The Ticket, especially with our son in the car. When I'm driving I keep it on one of the Christian music stations, which are really good. Right now most of them are playing Christmas music, another favorite for me is Amy Grant's Home For Christmas CD which I could listen to year round! I've had it for YEARS and it's just beautiful. I even had it in labor and delivery - the nurses loved it. Of course I had a December baby, so it was fitting. :-)

You can buy the CD's almost anywhere: Target, Wally world, Best Buy, also check out Half Price Books...or Amazon.com. You never know.

I have played Baby Einstein music for my kids since my oldest was 6 months. They both love the music and go to sleep to it every night. It calms them both and my 5 year old prefers it to other traditional "kid" music.

I don't know if it makes them smarter, but my 5 year old is reading at a 2nd grade level.

My son 2 1/2 listens and has listened since before he was born the Celine Deion"Miracle" and all the baby Einstein collections. He loves them and will cry out if he doesn't have it on when it's his nap/bed time. We are Very blessed w/my son. He is Very advanced. He counts to 25, knows all his colors, shapes, letters and can identify the numbers my numbers and by pictures. He is the only one that has accomplished this in his class. I truely believe that some of it is from the music which he is Very musical and the other is from us reading to him and working w/him.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Well I am not entirely convinced that listening to classical music really makes them smarter, but I do let my son listen to the Baby Einstein CDs. He really only listens to the Lullaby one at bedtime though. Other than that, he gets the Brighter Visions monthly package which includes a Reading or Board Book, Activity Book, Activity, and a CD. He adores those CDs. They have a lot of popular children's songs on them, but aren't annoying like many kids CDs can be. http://www.brightervision.com/ My nephew also grew up with their program and is doing incredibly well in school. He just tested in the 99% percentile for 6 year olds. My son is will be 2 next week and is also doing incredibly well. Recently he has shocked me by starting to sound out words he sees all around him. I'd say he's starting to read, but I know how absurd that sounds!!! Maybe it's Brighter Visions, maybe it's the lullaby's. Who knows, but more importantly. He's happy! I don't know, he also seems to like Billy Joel :)
