Need a New Monitor

We currently have the Sony BabyCall monitor and HATTTTEEE it. To say it sucks would be an understatement. It's constantly out of range and something is wrong with the receiver. I can open a brand new pack of batteries, put them in, and it still beeps that the battery is dead. Very annoying. I can't seem to find an 800 number for Sony's customer support either. Do you have any recommendations on a good, fairly cheap monitor? I don't want to spend a lot. Also, I'm not sure if they even make these, but is there something out there with TWO bases? I still like to keep one in Emme's room since her door is always shut and of course will need one in the nursery when Ellie is born. I'm not really interested in a video monitor. Thanks!

What can I do next?

The one I was given came from Fisher Price and it was only $40 or so. It only has one base, but it has 2 receivers. I loved it! It actually worked a little too well for my tastes. LOL!

I bought a Safety First Monitor at Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot for $16 and we love it. The Clarity is so good that we can literally hear a pin drop in our baby's room. As for the range, I've taken it outside with me when I cleaned out my car and never lost reception. The monitor itself must be plugged in, but the receiver can either plug in or use a 9 volt battery. It has a hook on the back of it so you can wear it attached to your belt or pocket. It was reasonably priced and works very well!

Good luck!

I may have an answer for you. I have ran across a couple of electronics that required rechargeable batteries but did not state that on the package. One was a digital camera. I went through so many batteries until I took it back to the store and the clerk told me that I needed rechargeable because some electronics just use too much juice to run. I hope you have found a solution! If this works, it could save you money. I bought a $12 charger that came with batteries. It charges four at a time.
Good luck! S. T.

B.,

We bought a Phillips brand monitor before my daughter was born 7 years ago and it didn't work right, so we returned it for a different one of the same model and still hated it. So we returned the second one and got a Graco and still have it/love it.

I think if you get 2 of the same monitor, you can set the frequency to be the same on all bases and all receivers and you should be able to hear both rooms on both receivers (and having 2 receiving could be very handy as well).

Good luck!

We use the Graco Digital. It is supposed to be private, I don't pick up static, it doesn't mess with the wireless network in our home, it works on all four floors (all brick) and outside, it has rechargeable bateries and two receivers, one base (the one base picks up everything on the second floor). It has various volume settings and lights up when there is sound in the nursery. We keep one on the charger in the kitchen and one in our bedroom. It lasts off the charger for about 12 hours. You can buy it at target online or babies r us in the store. It was kind of pricey ($80), but worth every penny!

We just have an inexpensive Graco monitor and it works really well, very basic and it's lasted us for over a year so far. We had a Fisher Price one and it broke within a week of having it. I don't know about 2 bases... might want to browse around on www.babiesrus.com or www.amazon.com.

We have a Graco monitor that came with two bases and we love it. It works really well and has a range of up to 2000 ft. I'm not sure of the full name of the monitor but we got it from Babies R Us. I think it was around $80, but it's been totally worth it. Hope this helps!

You might try this website for information:
http://www.mysimon.com/Consumer-Reports-Baby-Monitors/400...
it says a little about interference and some of the problems you mentioned. maybe you could fix the problem you are having instead of haveing to buy another monitor.

Hi I have read about your problem, I would definitly try and call Sony but while your waiting go buy a Fisher Price mines great! Mine has 3 pieces, 2 to listen that you can carry around or leave plugged in the wall. Which is what I did I never really tried the battery thing, of course we live in a house w/ only one level and my youngest sleeps w/ me. But it's still a good moniter! Good Luck!
