Moving Out of an Infant Car Seat...

Hello,
My 5 month old son is quickly approaching the weight limit on his infant car seat. My husband and I are researching the convertible car seats. I have read many reviews and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for us. Britax, Evenflo and Graco are the brands that are on the top of our list right now.
Please let me know if you have a convertible car seat that you love.
Thank your for the help!
M.

I have a Britax and I love it. It was a little pricey but worth it. Top in safety and comfort. It also lasts longer for the child, I believe 75 pounds. And they are rear and forward facing. I would never buy another brand, I have been really happy with mine. My daughter is 18 months and has been in hers since 6 months.

Hi M.!

I have a 19 month old and a 4 year old! I have found the best carseat/stroller ever!! It goes from Newborn to 40 lbs. It's called the sit n' stroll. It airplane approved too. Also, since it's a car seat too, you don't have to take your little one out and put them in a stroller if they fall asleep. The wheels just pop out and the handle bars come out. It's great! Hope this helps! Both of my girls are still in theirs! I've never had to buy another one. IF you want to come out and look at ours and see how it works let me know!
Thanks!

Hi M.,

Well...We have a 16 month old little boy and we had a Peg perego infant car seat, which we liked alot. and then we graduated to the Britax Roundabout. We absolutely LOVE this one. It is very comfy. It has the LATCH system. Over Christmas we drove from Santa fe to Las Vegas, NV, 9 hours staight through. Our Son never complained, not once. He is very secure and has more room for him to get comfortable. The shoulder harnesses are easy to adjust, The material is so soft and doesn't get hot when the car sits a hot parking area. It is great. Really can't say enough about it!
Hope this helps!

Take care,
K.

For my son I used Cosco brand which you can get at any store and absolutely loved it. It took 2 tries to get that one. The first one i got was an eddie bauer one and it sat him up so straight that he could not comfortably fall asleep because he would tilt his head down. The cosco one i have leans back a touch so he can rest his head to the side or up straight. I still have it and will soon be using it for my daughter who is now 8 months. The best thing to do if you are not sure about it is if you go to like babies r us you can actually take the car seat down on the floor to make it stable and put your child in it and see how they will be sitting in it or how comfortable they will be. Trust me your child will tell you if they are not. I hope this helped-best of luck. Jen

I noticed that you did not mention the Cosco car seat. We are using the Cosco Alpha Omega Elite and love it. Safety ratings are very very high, it will go up to 100pounds, it is a little difficult to put in the first time but after that it gets easier. Hope this helps :)

Cosco Alpha Omega. The puzzle lock was a little hard to get used to, but it's a breeze now. I've heard a lot of good things about Britax. They were a little pricey for us, but it might be worth the Nebraska cover! I feel like my kids are missing out on the Nebraska culture ; ) Where abouts does your family live? I'm from Lincoln.

My sister swears by her Britax Marathon. My nephew seems to love it! My own son has always had an Eddie Bauer seat, and it has worked well and has been easy to clean, even after a few carsickness episodes. Ultimately, you might need to change seats after a purchase. I've heard stories of people taking a carseat back because it didn't work with their car- and then the third or fourth one worked out. Just make sure to keep the carseat box in case of a return!

We have the Alpha Omega Elite convertible carseat. I love it because it can fit a baby from 5 lbs, up to a toddler of 80lbs. It converts to a booster seat to use with seatbelt when they are older, and we won't need to buy another as my DD won't grow out of it.

We've also had the Britax roundabout and aboslutely loved it! They are great seat, but the one we had wasn't a convertible seat and my DD outgrew it. She's under the weight limit, but hit the height limit too soon. We are either going to get another Britax or Alpha Omega for our baby.

BRITAX is the best hands down! We bought too and I love the Britax more for safety and ease of use - it's worth the extra $$

We had a Cosco brand for the other and I HATED IT! It was hard to install, felt cheap and wasn't padded very well so seemed uncomfortable.

I have put both of my sons in the cosco Alpha Omega and I have been very happy with it so far. I'm not sure how much you want to spend but i have two of these car seats and also my parents have 2 of these car seats when they go with my parents. The car seat can go from infant to 100 lbs and it can be a rear facing car seat and forward facing. It also turns into a booster seat when your child is old enough to just use the seat belt. You can find them at babies r us, toys r us, and target. I'm not sure if you can find them at wal-mart
