Mom Advice for Lactose Toddlers

Hi!I have a 16 month old son and a 2 month old daughter.Both of them are lactose intolerant and are/were on Prosobee Soy Lipil.My son drinks lactose free milk and soy milk.You could try the soy.He drinks the Dairy Ease lactose free milk and I get the store brand Soy.Hope that helps some!!

My child has been on the "Silk" brand ever since she was off the soy formula, and she loves it. I get her the vanilla flavor. She has done extremely well on the soy milk and I feel it's so much better for her than the cow's milk, especially since the cows are injected with so many hormones and antibiotics. Their milk is tainted with the stuff and high doses of these hormones given to little girls via cow's milk has been linked to female cancer's down the road. The soy milk (Silk) was highly recommended by my pediatrician. Oh, and it also comes in chocolate! :-)

I too have a lactose intolerant toddler....the best milk that i have tried is dairy ease by land o'lakes. i never had a problem w/ her throwing her milk up unless she was sick or her allergies were acting up and she had a lot of gunk in the back of her throat. it just coated her throat and made her vomit. her problem was either constipation or diarrhea depending on how much milk she had. i put her on lactose free milk when she was an infant and have stayed on lactose free milk cause i am lactose inolerant too. some of the other lactose free milks are pretty thick. you might also want to try the organic lactose free milk out there, i forget who makes it but it has a picture of a house on the front. i think kroger sells it and so does whole foods or wild oats. if you are military, the commissary sells it too. dairy ease has been the easiest, and of course every once in a while the real deal sneaks up on her in cheeses, ice cream, or at daycare, but she seems to do better the older she gets. land o'lakes also makes lots of other lactose free foods.

oh, and you could try rice milk...we did that for a while when we had some problems going from formula to regular lactose free milk. it was easier on her stomach. i would cut back on the amount you give her too, the doctor told me to make sure she got at least 4 servings but to supplement w/ other things too.

I don't know if you have tried, but I had the same problem with my 22 month old daughter. She would spit up very frequently and regular milk would make her sick. So, my doctor recommended that we give her Soy milk, I use "Silk" as well. Sounds weird I know but it worked wonders. It also comes in all different flavors, regular, vanilla, very vanilla, and chocolate. My daughter just loves it. Hope this information helps.....

It doesn't matter which lactose free milk you get, just make sure it's whole milk. Also, is she getting any other dairy?? You've got to be really careful to see what she's getting that also has lactose in it. My son is lactose intolerant and we crush lactaid tablets to give to him in addition to his lactose free milk.

My mom had to switch me off milk formula when I was a baby to soy which I didn't tolerate much better. My kids have had trouble w/ milk and when I tried soy, they actually became tired. So looking for another solution, I came across almond milk. It's real good, and it comes in reg, vanilla and chocolate. I buy mine at the Krogers in ClearLake on ElCamino.

Now the only draw back to Almond milk is that in my opinion it doesn't taste real good w/ baking things that are non-sweet, say like mashed potato's. So I found another solution. Vance's Dari-Free is online and it comes in regular and in chocolate powdered form (great for baking) You just mix it up in a pitcher. I actually like it better than almond, but it has a bit more sugar content.

Land O' Lakes and Lactaid both make a lactose-free milk that are good to use.

I have a three year old that had the same problem, it wasn't that she was lactose intolerant she just could not handle whole milk. We put her on 2% and then switched to organic which is more expensive but it works.

My daughter had some issues similar to that...I tried the soy milk "Silk" and honestly I kinda liked it some too. It isnt as bad as you might think.

I have heard that goat's milk is the most like human milk. When Mom couldn't produce enough breastmilk for my brother and me, that is what she supplimented us with, and that is what we drank for a few years after we were weaned. You might want to try it. I know Wal-Mart sells some canned goat's milk (next to the condensed milk); if you can find someone that raises goats, though, it would probably be cheaper and healthier.

I use the Lactaid brand with the extra calcium..The one with the added calcium has a yellow label with it written on it..It comes with/without added calcium..My daughter is almost 4 and has been on it for 2 years now

I have two yr old twin boys that are on Lactose free milk i use the land o lakes kind and i keep it at 2% and they seem to do pretty good with that. They can tolerate the whole but I just stick to the 2% so we dont have any issues

I have a 2 year old that we just found out that she is Lactose
intolerant we were on 2% milk but her doctor put her on lactose
milk she has been on Dairy Ease by Land O'lakes and she loves it she dose not spit it up or have that fleim in her throat like she use too.
