Lots of Dust. Any Solution?

Hi moms,
We've recently moved, but there are tons of dust in my new home. I vacuum, dust and mop on a daily basis, but you woldn't see the difference 2 hours later. The thing is I'm struggling to keep my both allergic kids away from this, but looks like it just doesn't work. We have wood floors and wool rugs, so at least theoretically it should be way easier for me to handle it. The ac filter is changed once a month. Anyone with a solution? I've heard of some air purifiers. Is it worth to spend money on them? Anything else?
Take care of you and your loved ones.

What can I do next?

I had the same problem. I bought a Roomba (iRobot) to clean the floors (even under the sofas, beds, dressers, etc.... Plus, I had my air ducts cleaned out and purchase Hepa (spelling) filters. They hold the smallest of particles... including dust mites and pet dander. This combo worked well for me.

P.S. I do a lot of laundry... the lint collector can only hold so much, so I believe that was part of MY problem.

Hope this was helpful

Have you had the duct work clean by an ac professional? Over time the ducts build up with dust and stuff and cleaning them out may help this problem. I hope you find a solution.

To start with I would get rid of the wool rugs. You can buy the new rugs made of recycled bottles that are machine washable and last forever. Also, I am told they are far better for people with alleriges. Have you had the air conditioner checked and duct work cleaned? I have had my duct work replaced a couple times now. Curtains can hold a lot of dust but blinds are the worst. The allergy doctor told me to get rid of all my blinds as they are dust traps. A lot of dust can come in through the windows. Are your windows old or new? You might need to replace your windows. Since we got new windows this last year I only have to dust every other week now compared to every day before that. And as far as air purifiers go I wouldn't waste my money. We tried three different ones and none of them are worth the money. Also, the filters are expensive. If you get the one that you wash the filters it is still expensive to run. Our electric bill went up $50 running that one. I stopped using all of them. I still have carpet in my living room. I honestly believe you don't have no where near as much dust if you have carpet and a good vacuum. Save your money on purifiers and have your windows checked and your duct work cleaned and checked. With that much dust I would guess that it is possible for your duct work to have a hole iin it somewhere if your windows are sealed good. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem trying top keep dust down for my son with asthma. When you dust do you use a dry or wet cloth? I use a wet cloth to dust as it holds onto the dust instead of just throwing the dust in the air to come back down later. It really has worked at my house.

You might want to get your AC main, vents, and return cleaned. If it is already dirty in there, it won't matter how much you change your filters, it will still blow dust. Check with your local AC installation or repair companies, one of them might offer cleaning services. It is kind of pricey though. It can range from $100 to $300. I also had a germicidal UV lamp installed in my air handler. It helps prevent mold spores and growth in the system to help reduce airborne infectants. Once again, very pricey depending on what you get. I think mine was around $1200 (labor included).
