Hello,
I highly recommend Weight Watchers. I have done the on-line version more than once and lost over 20 pounds each time. I've always been too busy to go to meetings so the on-line system works great for me.

Before anyone can lose weight, you must be totally committed to doing it mentally, otherwise, nothing will work.

Good luck!

My mom quit smoking recently and mentioned that she had started to put on a few pounds. The next day, we joined weight watchers together. We've both lost over 10 pounds (and I've lost almost 3 times that) since June. I really recommend it. Lots of support and you can eat whatever you want (just watch those portions!!). Good luck!

I have tried many diets over the years, and the only one which has worked for me is weight watchers. I lost almost 50 lbs on their program before I met my husband and just rejoined after the birth of my son. They teach you lifestyle changes, not just food...exercise is strongly recommended, which may also help you since you've just quit smoking(I kicked a 2 pack a day habit and haven't smoked in over 10 yrs now). I go to the meetings, but you can also do it online. The meetings are my time...my husband watches our son and I do this for myself. I need it! (lol). Good luck...you can do it!!! S.

count the calories you eat, and go for a walk, there is no magic pill that will help you. Nothing short of diet and exercise will do anything. Portion control, no fast food and eating late at night will make you gain. You have to want to do this for yourself, you have to want to quit smoking or neither will ever work for you.

I have been doing weight watchers and it is wonderful. They even have a program for nursing mothers. I do not really exercise and using the flex points have lost almost 15 lbs. Good luck and congrats on quitting smoking!!!

D.,
Add Grapefruit oil/juice to your water. It will help you metabolize better... also it sounds like you have an oral fixation...switch to gum or celery! There are wonderful herb remedies if you are interested.
Good luck releasing your weight!

The best thing anyone can do to lose weight is eat better for yourself & walk at least 30 minutes a day. Quitting smoking is difficult, but its not making you gain weight by itself. Are you stress eating perhaps? Try walking to start, to clear your head.
Hope that helps.
Good luck!

Everyone gains weight when they quit smoking and it takes about a year for your body to adjust to the change and usually the weight will come back off. When I quit, I joined a gym and started exercising more. I still gained weight but after about a year it slowly came back off. When my Mom quit, she joined weight watchers and that helped her to keep from gaining. Whatever you do, stay away from the cigarettes. In the long run you will be so glad that you did. Good luck.

I definitely agree with those who say to walk. Take a brisk walk for 30 minutes a day to start and work up to an hour. I had a neighbor I used to walk with every night and the kids would follow us on their bikes. Treadmills are good too but you can get bored quickly. Headphones or TV with the treadmill can help pass the time. Walking is great for your mind too. I always looked forward to walking in the evenings and just letting my mind work through the day's challenges. If you aren't eating more to compensate, I did hear that smoking does increase your metabolism, which would now be a bit slower, but regular exercise and increasing muscle mass will boost your metabolism back up again. Good Luck!

I just read your request. There is no supplement out there that will really help. Most are just short term heartrate modifiers that leave you feeling worse. You know, the FDA does not regulate supplements. As long as they do not claim to cure a disease they can pretty much claim to "help" anything.

You must get active and not STARVE yourself. If you do not eat, your metabolism will slow down to accomodate the lack of calories. It sounds crazy but you have to eat small frequent meals throughtout the day that are well balanced and nutritious. If you eat small and frequent it will help you with the tobacco withdrawal. Your body also needs to adjust to the fact that you are no longer providing nicotine. Nicotine affects the metabolism. Now that food tastes better and you don't have that cigarette in your mouth- your body expects something in return and it will crave food.
You have to kick in some exercise that gets your heartrate moving. This will stave off the hunger and give you a sense of well being.

Hello,

I just lost 36 lbs after having my daughter and the only diet that worked for me is Weight Watchers. I did it online, I have 2 kids and don't have time to go to meetings. You can eat regular food so you don't have to buy all the expensive food, you just go by a points system for each food. It is really fun looking up the food you can have. I wish you the best of luck!

First of all, I know exactly what you are going through! The battle of the bulge...and let me tell you what...it's winning and has for several years. However, I was taking Relacore as well as Zantrax. I found myself going into extreme rages, which is very unusual for my mild tempered self! I went to the doc and he told me to stop taking over-the-counter meds. He said many actually increase your appetite. Plus, they have negative side effects such as mood swings and other health related problems. I recommend getting an excercise machine! I got the Total Body Gym from WalMart online (it was about $99, which is a steal compared to Chuck Norris's machine costing $1200). It is great and I can see some improvements in my body already. I've only been working out 45 min. every day for the last two months. However, it's a slow process. Drink tons of water, nothing else! Try to stay away from carbs, such as rice, potatoes..etc. Basically, if it tastes good, you should only look at it...lol! If you ever need encouragement, drop me a line. We are fighting this war together, and sometimes it helps to have a friend. Good luck!

I can only tell you what worked for me. I am not a smoker so that was not an issue for me, but I was addicted to sweets and eating. I gained almost 30 pounds over a period of several years. I lost in very quickly about three years ago. I woke up one day and put
myself on a modified Atkins low carb diet. I picked 50 gm of carbs a day as my Goal and decided I would allow myself extra cheating on weekends or at special birthday occasions.
In the beginning I really stuck to it. Within three months I had lost the wait. It was not painful at all and I ate all the foods I really enjoy and had avoided for years. I tried not
too eat too much fat or meat since my cholesterol is overly high as it is. When I lost the weight my cholesterol was down 30 points!! (yes my ldl's were slightly up.) I have maintained my weight for three years now. I can even fit in a size 10 which I never could before. I do eat a little more carbs on some days, but I have not overdone it and I feel a LOT better and all my out of control cravings are much less and sometimes gone. I can get hooked on choc. so i try to eat lo carb choc. once in a while when I can find it. Now that the carb craze has passed it is much more difficult to find the low carb items. Tops and Walmarts still sell the lo carb icecream bars. This is a diet that you really have to stick to, but it is fairly easy.
Good Luck.

I am a 36yr old breast cancer survivor that has gained approx. 25-30 lbs from differnet surgerie and medications. I have always been between a size 3 & 5. I am now a 10 & 12, that's big for me. I joined weight watchers, my oncologist states it is the jealthiest and safest diet, I lost about 12 lbs, and then "got stuck". So, after much frustration with my weight, I joined an aerobics class. Nothing too much, 3 time a week, 45 min. that's all, and I have went down 2 clothing sizes. I think exercise is the way to go.

Have you tried counting calories... I know it sounds like a pain... but you can actually download calorie tables for all regular foods.... from the internet...for me since i am sedentary and only 5'4 I go for about 1200-1500 calories a day... I don't limit what I can eat ... only how much...just keep track of your calories and the weight will melt off... at 1200 calories a day I went from 160 to 135 in only 3 months...
good luck..

Well hope this helps! This doctor was given to me by an-inlaw of mine. This doctor does really help& he has 2 offices.I was 233 pounds in April 2006. I was using my bowflex tread climber 3 times weekly and weights in between, and I wasn't gaining weight I was just getting more solid, than I allready was. my 230 pounds didn't look it! but I felt it in the summer-thighs rubbing togeather, not hungry for breakfast, didn't eat that much but my weight refused to move & so did my female family doctor on helping me with diet pills.she just kept saying the same thing!watch what you eat,she really wasn't listning to what I was telling her. Any way this doctor I went & still go to gave me diet pills & in the 1st week I lost 10 pounds,my blood pressure came down also which was border-line.I go every 2 weeks & sometimes 1xa month if going to be out of town.Today 10/26/06 I weigh 192 pounds, you can stop when your ready, space the appt times longer between visits.I had a big belly which fluctuates from my period or when ever it decides to say hi! He did say my belly will take a little bit longer, you can see the difference from then to now.I had to buy new panties & bras(hunny didn't like loosing his"44DD" to much, but i still have good size(LOL).you have a pill for the A.M & a different pill for the P.M.

Thats what I needed was a good head start from diet pills just like i told my smart--- doctor.I won't tell her the doctor who helps me,but i still get my blood work & physical from her. If you want his name e-mail me! Good-night!
