I am a stayhome mom of a 2 year old little girl and 5 month old little boy. I am new to the area and curious if there are any playdates or playgroups near here. I would love to get my daughter to start interacting with children her age, and play with.

What can I do next?

Hi J.

My name is K. I am the mother of two boys 5 and 2. We live in the Claymont area and I am always looking for someone for my 2 year old to play with. His brother is in Pre-school 1/2 day 5 days a week. We have a nice sized playroom, a little cold right now but on the warm days it is nice. Would love to talk. You can email or call me @ ###-###-#### ____@____.com

Hope to hear from you soon

Hi! I am a stay at home mom that lives in Claymont, and I also have a 2 year old daughter. I also have a 9 year old daughter who is in school. I don't know of any playdates or playgroups in the area, I have looked myself but haven't found any yet. It would be a lot of fun if maybe we could start something ourselves, and then others would join too.

Hi J.!

Try out the Parents as techers playgroup at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Foulk Road 9:30am to 11:00am on Wednesdays (althought there is no group on Wednesday April 26th.) Their website is http://www.christina.k12.de.us/ParentsAsTeachers/.

There is story time at the Brandywine hundred Library Mondays and Thursdays at 10:15am for 2 year olds. The children play with blocks, puzzles and books after. And when it gets warmer many people walk over to the park after.

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) has a playgroup on Fridays at 10:30 in their early education center. No need to be Jewish but many who attend are Jewish. Their group moved to the baby pool area in the summer last year.

Lots of kids seem to gravitate to the Can-Do playground at Foulk and Weldin. It is a state park so you need a park pass ($27 for the year.) Bellevue has a nice playground too. But the weather is still too cold.

We will probably run into you if you go to any of the above. Good luck!

I'm in the Claymont area. My daughter is 6 months old so we're just starting to look for playgroups. Have you heard about the Parents as Teachers program? It's a free program run by the state of Delaware. Each child is paired with an educator that you meet with once per month, visists look at developmental milestones and activities to work on in the coming months. There are playgroups and activity nights associated with this program. I belive it's for kids up to 3 years old, so you could possibly enroll both the little ones.

Hey there,

I also live in N. Wilmington/Claymont. I consider myself new to the area but I really have been here for a year! I have found a lot of fun things to do here and I'm excited that spring is here again. I have made friends and acquaintances but I have not run into a "playgroup." I have a very sweat 3yr old and a fun little 7 month old boy, and I too stay at home with the kids(though we don't spend much time "in the house") As I mentioned, I really like getting out and about. Gymboree(on 202) has been a great place to meet people. Colin met his best little friend at Barnes and Noble when we stayed after story time to play with the trains(on wed. mornings) I am curiuos as to where you live and where you are from, I would love to meet up. We don't really have any friends in the nieghborhood, it would be so cool if it turned out that we live close by. I don't know this site to well, but I believe you can respond to me. And I will be checking in to see if anyone else know of a playgroup. Later,
C.

I know how it is to be new. We moved to Newark a little over a year ago. I have a daughter who is 2 and another daughter who is 13 months. The good news is that having children makes it easier to meet people! I met a great friend from the Claymost area and we often meet at the Can Do playground. We love to meet new people. Do you have a direct email? I am new to this Mamasourse thing - so if you can respond to me directly that would be cool to.

My daughter Trinity is 1 and 1/2 years old. She is a very active baby and loves to play dress up and watch the Doodlebops. We are having an Easter egg hunt this Sunday so if you are in the area you are welcome to bring your kids by to play and have the hunt with us. Just let me know so we can get enough eggs. Her cousin Anthony will be attending as well and he is four. He is very lovable and gentle with my daughter. We would love to have a play date with your kids so let me know. We are also having an Easter dinner including a ham and other side dishes. You are welcome to join us so let me know. My email is ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-####. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi J.! I live in Claymont and have a 2 year old girl and 7 month old boy and stay home with my children. My friend Gretchen responded to you as well. I would love to meet up sometime. I have not found any playgroups in this area but do frequent the parks, library, zoo....yes even in chilly weather! I find that a little bit of fresh air every day works great for a long nap. My daughhter just turned two the middle of February. Looking forward to getting together :)
