I am looking for an OB dr in the Des Moines area. I prefer female a female dr, but am really looking for one who listens and actually cares. (you know, I don't like those who make you feel like you are wasting their time) I loved my dr in Omaha, but find a 2 hour drive with two young kids is silly. I have also noticed a small lump on one of my breasts. It has been there for about a month and it hasn't changed, so I don't think it has to do with the time of the month. It feels like a hard little lump not far under the skin. It doesn't feel squishy and I can't move it around. If you look closely you can see a small bump on the outside of my breast, but it is not inflamed, red, or sore. Has anyone else ever had this? Also, who checks this out? OB? Family dr? I also have a 5 month old, but didn't nurse. Could it be related to having a baby?

What can I do next?

If there is ANY way you'd be willing to drive to Ames, I'd suggest Dr Tim Leeds at Doran Clinic. He is AMAZING and had a wonderful bedside manner. He helped my family through the loss of our first baby, then delivered our second beautiful daughter a year later. For me, anyway, it's worth the drive... however, I'm through having kids, so I don't need to worry about having to drive 30 miles to deliver my baby.

Get it checked out soon, though, OK? Breast lumps of any kind are nothing to fool around with.

T., I use OB/GYN Specialists across from Mercy Hospital. I've been happy with my female doctor, and also love the nurse practioner I see at that office. The doctor's name is: Tamara Dassanayake. The office calls her Dr. T for short, and you can make an appt. by just requesting Dr. T. The nurse practioner I use is Sue Morvan. She is very nice and is who I usually see. The lump on your breast needs immediate attention! Do not put off having this checked out! My Mom is a breast cancer survivor and I myself have already had a benign lump removed before age 30. It is very important that you have a mammogram to be sure this isn't something more serious. I would also recommend Iowa Radiology for the mammogram. They are wonderful, caring people who perform the mammogram in a private room setting rather than the ones they do at the hospital which are cold and uncomfortable and not very private. Hope these recommendations help and everything comes out ok for you with your breast.

Hi! Dr Belshiem (not sure that is spelled right) is a female and works in West Des Moines. I think she is with a group though. My mom has gone to her for many years. She wasn't taking new patients when I was pregnant with my first. Some of my friends have gone to her and liked her. I go to Dr. Sager (male) but he's good and has nurse practioners who I really like that you see for some of the appointments.

I would definitely make an appt. right away to get the lump checked out.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I had 4 kids, 3 boys and a girl, in 5+ years. The oldest is now 7.

Dr. Dornbier in Des Moines is great. sorry he is a guy but I really like him. He is nice and listens and just all arund a nice guy. He is with OB/GYN of Greater Des Moines. They have a few offices, on right across from Mercy, one in West Des Moines and one in Ankeny. Als there is a female dr that that I meet a few times and she was really good also. They call her Dr. T. Everyone in that group I have been so excited to have, the best part is you don't have to see all of them, you can choose who ever you want.
