I have a 17 year old son that will be attending San Jose State University this fall. He will be new to the area. I would like for him to find a CHRISTIAN church to attend. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Jubilee Christan Center off of 237 and 1st street is an awesome CHRISTAN church. They have a lot going for kids and about a month ago they just started a young adults service ministry on Thrusday nights. Check out their website and there is a link to the youth building to check out online. www.jubilee.org, ###-###-####, 175 Nortech Parkway, San Jose, 95134. Good Luck and God bless you and yours.

Hi M.,

At SJSU, The River Community Church uses the Student Union for church service and Kids Community on Sundays. It's a great church. Here's the website that you can check out and forward to your son. There are a lot of SJSU students who attend this church: http://www.the-river.org/

I hope you find this useful. The location will be absolutely awesome for your son.

Hi M..
First Antioch Baptist Church on Julian between 5th and 6th has a small congregation, and a fairly full house, each Sunday. They are friendly and open...The church is also (I believe) the oldest African American based church in the state of CA. If your family is not AA, do let this dissuade your son. My family isn't and we received one of the most comfortable welcomes we ever have had at a church - warm and open without being swallowed up.

If he has transportation, he could try Bethel Church (bethel.org) which is a large church about 7 miles away. You could also have him check out the Christian clubs on campus. I believe San Jose State has both Campus Crusade for Christ and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. My husband and I both enjoyed their meetings at our colleges. They are great places to meet people and also to get an idea of where the good local churches are. Best Wishes!

Hi M.,
My name is T. and I's a graduate of San Jose State. Walking distance from SJSU is my church Maranatha Christian Center. 1811 South Seventh Street. It's a bible teaching, worshipping, everyone is welcome church. They have a great young adult ministry and we have several students and grad student from SJSU. Your son would feel very welcome. It's casual...He could wear jeans or he couds wear a suit. It's a real family atmosphere and the Word is taught in a very practical life applicable way. It's an awesome church. Hope this helps. www.maranathacc.com
God Bless.

Yes! The River meets right there on campus. This is a non-denominational church that spun off from our church South Hills Comm. church out here in Almaden. They started up in Cupertino but felt God called them to move to SJSU and have been there for at least five years. You can get all their info. on their webpage.

The River Church Community actually meets on campus in the Union Hall. We haven't been in a few years, but it used to be quite the draw for younger adults. I know Pastor Jim Martin is still there.

Hi. Well I don't know of any right in the neighborhood, but I do attend a chuch called The Journey in South SJ. It is really easy to get to from the downtown area, and is near hwy 85 by Almaden Exressway.
It is actually held in the Pioneer HS auditorium. They have a really good, and strong college group I have heard. Some great kids there! They have a website talkinchurch.com.

Good Luck!
