Hey mammas! I have 3 boys (4, 3, 1), who usually wear jeans and pants, but in the 3yro's pre-school, all of the toddlers wear LEGGINGS. Yes, leggings. I thought those were just for girls! (my 13yro loves them) But the mommys at the pre-school recommend me to try it on my boys. They kids look comfy in the leggings and the moms say is really cheap. You can make one in 5 minutes!
What do you think about them? Do your kids wear leggings? Do they like them? What are some nice stores to buy them? Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advice! One of the boys at my son's pre-school grew his leggings out and the mom said she could give them to me, to see if my kids liked them. Sadly, they were the size of the littlest. One mom asked me to post a photo soo...

I confess, I haven't heard of this new style trend :) Do they then wear a tunic, too? Because boys would have a couple lumps and bumps that girls wouldn't, know what I mean? I guess at 3 it's fine, but beyond that ... hmmmm

With the way boys at that age wear holes through the knees of jeans I can't imagine a pair of leggings lasting more than 2-3 wears. I could see a thick sweat pant, but leggings don't sound very practical. I've never seen a boy in leggings, except for maybe pj's that fit like leggings.

What is wrong with sweat pants then? No, I am not putting my son in leggings. The closest he gets is long underwear in the winter.

I've never seen a boy in leggings, even toddlers. My son always wears jeans, sweats, chinos, or track pants. They are all comfy (we buy soft jeans) and I would never put him in leggings.

I can see doing it on a freezing cold day UNDER another kind of pants, but not on the outside. : ) And where we live, there aren't any freezing cold days so I still wouldn't do it!

I have 2 boys and they never wear leggings. Only my daughter wears leggings! If they want comfy clothes, how about the sweatpants from Carter's? Those are super soft. I agree with the other moms, leggings are for girls.

Are you talking about "baby legs" type leg warmers, which can be made from an old pair of knee-hi's or good socks? Or actual 'stretch pants' leggings?

Can you put a link in your SWH so we know what you are talking about? I could see that anything which helped with potty training would be a plus. Elastic waisted pants or just dealing with training pants instead of taking all of it up and down.

Sounds like an annoying trend imo for boys in cushy environments who don't play hard outside. I also don't like leggings as pants on adults outside of gym classes or athletic activities. Plus, who can make leggings in 5 minutes? What? I'm a good sewer and I couldn't. unless I cut the feet off some tights....which I also wouldn't put on my son as pants...

My DD (and many other little kids) lived in soft, knit pants. Do you mean that or do you mean tight leggings? Even now, my DD often wears leggings for modesty under dresses and skirts and rarely just as pants. Knit pants for toddlers? YES! No buttons or zippers to fiddle with for potty training! Or diapering! Make leggings? I can't sew for the life of me. I would just buy them comfortable knit pants. I can buy pants on sale for less than I could buy a yard of fabric. But I don't think I've ever seen a boy locally in what I would call "leggings".

Ya sure the girl moms weren't yanking your chain, like ha ha, we will get the new girl good and tell her to dress her boy like a girl! :p

Because seriously I have never seen a boy in leggings except while performing ballet and no one is going to give those guys trouble for being in tights!

So are we talking about the same thing? Leggings are pants that are like thick tights with no feet? If so, then no, I have not seen boys wear these. I mean if a kid wanted to, fine, whatever. I think anyone who wears leggings, no matter what age or gender, should have a shirt on that covers at least part of the rear which means it would usually go down to about mid thigh all the way around.

I am not a seamstress at all, so I have no idea how to make leggings or how fast it would take.

One of my first grader this year was wearing leggings in the style of jeans, but they didn't look like the jeggings I am used to and they looked ridiculous on them, so if you mean leggings like stretch pants, no, I am not familiar with little boys wearing them.

Boys around here wear leggings and skinny pants of every type. Gymboree sell basic black and navy leggings. The skinny jeans never last as long as other jeans. Holes in the knees etc. Maybe this is a regional fashion thing? But here at the beach anything goes in terms of kids clothes.

Leggings are super skinny knit pants that are skin tight and form closely to the body...no, boys do NOT wear them. Put some shorts on the boy and let him enjoy wearing boy clothes.

I personally don't like leggings on little boys...

But there I go, gender stereotyping! Lol. ;)

I think, if your kid likes it, and asks for it himself, let him go for it. If anything, they will make great pictures to show off to future girlfriends. (Although... I would probably put shorts on over... Like somebody else mentioned... Lumps and bumps... Lol.) I probably wouldn't be the one to take the initiative to put him in them though.
