Good luck finding a Leappad. :) If you do find one it's just the startup that is supposed to be a pain. In the end I read it was worth it. I would set it up then wrap it back up and give it for Christmas. Then it's ready to go when opened. But like I said - good luck finding one. They are now at almost 200 bucks from overzealous sellers on Amazon.

My 4yo loves her Leapster Explorer! As long as there are batteries in it she had it on. I havent done any research on the Leappad but I have heard that they are selling out everywhere! With the Explorer you can download games, print off their rewards or coloring pages and it does keep them busy.
We are getting her a DS for Christmas due to the amount of batteries we have gone thru in one year. (She got the leapster last year for Christmas)
My kids have had pretty much everything that Leapfrog has come out with and either way you can not go wrong with Leapfrog.

We got the Explorer but IF we could have FOUND a Leap Pad we would have gotten it.

On the upside the games can be used in both versions.

I don't know which one is better, I was hoping to read feedback on the Leapster since we got it for my 3 year old for Christmas. However, if you are looking for a Leap Pad, I got an email yesterday from Toys R Us guaranteeing them in stock. It may have been just for yesterday, but it maybe something worth looking into.

I just got my 3.5 yr old a leap pad. I think the Leapster is for the toddler years? I might be mistaken.
