I would introduce the idea. Make it fun. I'm sure you've heard of putting cereal in the toilet and he aim at it. Just remember that sometimes if they are trained early, they will relapse.

Also, another thing is that he may just be taking his diaper off because he doesn't want it on. My daughter did this. It wasn't that she was ready to train, it was because she didn't like the diaper. We switched to a less bulky diaper and just put them on backwards. Of course I was fussed at by some people for stiffling her desire to go potty, but she wasn't interested. If I put her on the potty, she would scream her head off.

If he is interested, go for it. Good Luck!

Sorry to say... but both of my kids, and several of my friends' kids, went through this same phase. It is the beginning of potty training readiness, but not actually being ready. You know your kid better than me though! The best way I found to get through this phase was to put a close-fitting diaper cover to keep them from dettaching their diapers. If you haven't already encountered the "number two all over the crib" part of this phase, count your blessings and tighten those diaper covers! ;) But if you think he's ready for potty-training then go ahead and get the small toilet and place it in his bathroom at his convenience. Give it a whirl and see if its worth your while. Unless you have hardwood floors, I'd go with pullups until you're sure. Also, if you have one on the way you might as well wait until baby number two is here, or you'll be doing all the work over again- at least that's what I did.

HI O.~
My son is only 11 months, so i haven't had to deal with potty training just yet, but i recall some of my co-workers saying that when their child(ren) got to this phase, they would place their diapers on backwards.....I thought it was pretty funny, but they were all very serious!!!
Good Luck and let me know how things work out.

Hi O.,
My name is A.. I saw your posting looking for others having 'potty' questions. I would like to tell you that my son is only 15 months and we have started potty training. My husband and I decided it was time b/c he would pull at his diaper and seems interested when we go potty. We've been doing it for about a week and he's doing pretty good. We ask him if he has to go, and he'll either go to the bathroom door - he has to go (which we keep shut, don't want nothing to go down the toilet that don't belong :p) or he'll head in the opposite direction - he doesn't have to go or just don't want to. At this point, we make a bid deal every time he tells us he has to go and he loves the attention. He does better every day. He has even started today, going to the bathroom door without us asking him if he has to go. So I believe it's never to early to start, just don't be pushy about it. And express overwhelming joy when he does go. I hope this helps. I know you posted your last month. Just hoping to show you some encouragment. GOOD LUCK!

The best way to know if he is ready is if he tells you he has to pee pee before he wets his diaper. Also, you could try it one day on big boy underwear and see how it goes. Some parents put on big boy underwear and just put them on the potty every hour whether they say thet have to go or not. You know your child best, so you gauge what he is ready for. Good Luck!!!
