How Often Do You Get Your Hair Done?

My hair is orginally medium brown, but these days I have gotten it pretty blonde with all the highlights. I like it! But I dont like my roots every couple months.
When it was browner, I didnt have to get it done as often, but I am thinking I need to get it done every 3 months, and thats a stretch.
My husband is like "Nope, twice a year!"
There is no way I can only get it done twice a year!
So, I am just curious how much the average woman gets their hair done. :)

What can I do next?

I dye my hair once a month because I get a half inch growth in a month, but I do it myself. Cutting my hair is closer to once a year but I am going to try to do six months this time, maybe go crazy and do three.

I get my hair done every six weeks. I set my appointment before I leave the one I'm in. I am going today, actually. And, I get blonde highlights also. Yes, it is expensive. But, my husband likes my hair this way, so he is willing to pay for it. I wouldn't be able to maintain it only twice a year. You might consider a different style/color. Ask him what he wants it to look like. If he agrees that he likes it this new way, then explain that in order to keep it up, it will need more maintainance. If he is good with whatever, you may have to go back to the old way. Budgets are important.

I colored my hair for the first time from a box last month. I have grey!!! ARGH! I get my hair cut about twice a year. BUT...right now our local soccer team (SOUNDERS!!! WOOT WOOT!) have a deal that if they win and have at least 3 goals scored you can go and get your hair cut for free at super cuts with the ticket to that game...so sometimes I get it cut 4 times a year. lol

I haven't been to the hair salon in over a year. I just trim it myself when the ends look bad. (I have curls, I can snip here and there and noone will notice). If I colored my hair - I'd have to go every couple months like you are suggesting you do. You don't want those roots showing. It can look pretty bad when you get a big straight line of demarcation. Your husband needs to wise up and realize that your hair grows too fast to go just twice a year.

I don't color anymore, got so tired of the upkeep and the expense. I keep it really short, so it needs a trim every 5-6 weeks. I've been going to the same person 20+ years and she charges me $28 for a cut.

I have brown hair also but I have some very blonde highlights. I usually get it done every 3-4 months. I would like to do it every 2 months, but I just can't afford it. Each visit costs $100 for a cut and highlights. Right now, I currently have the skunk line on the top of my head, lol! But I am waiting until mothers day to have it done again. Your husband is crazy to have you be able to upkeep blonde hair only 2 times a year, lol!

like every 6 weeks.. with highlights you can't go for much longer without it looking really bad. It doesn't hurt that my cousin is a hair dresser, i was her guinea pig throughout cosmetology (yikes) so that earned me a lifetime of hair cuts and colors at cost. She's amazing. So sad that I'm moving 3000 miles away, I'll probably have to stretch it to 8 weeks depending on what they want to keep up my hair where we're going.

I go every 8 weeks for a 1 step color. Every other 8 weeks, I get a little trim.

Due to my Native American heritage, I am blessed with straight as a board hair, all 1 length, no gray. So I play with color vs cutting, highlighting, etc.

I spend about $65 for color only and when I add the trim it is about $130 (with a good tip)

I get my hair cut every 6 months. It's a long layered cut so it doesn't look bad as it grows out. I color it myself. Every 6 weeks??? That sounds like a serious waste of money to me. Neither my son or husband go that often.

I'm 45 on sunday, but pretty much salt and pepper if I dont color it. My hair is long, naturally curly and grows fast...so I color it myself every month...sucks! If I don't, my grey roots start to show almost right away so I can't get away with waiting any longer. =/

Every 8 weeks. My hair grows really fast and I get foil highlights all over, so I'm very blonde and by 8 weeks my roots are disgusting! My husband complains about it too because it's not cheap, but its pretty much one of the only things I spend money on for myself.

I go every 8-9 weeks to get my roots done and for a trim. In between salon appointments, I use Clairol Nice & Easy Root Touch Up - it's super easy and perfect for me. I highly recommend this product between appointments.

I guess that I am pretty low maintenance. I don't color my hair at all. I used to do highlights but don't anymore because they are so expensive. I keep my hair cut in one length without bangs style so I only even get it cut a few times a year.

Every time I get a haircut I try to get a blow dry once a week until I get used to the new style and can blow it myself. It's a very layered haircut (medium long, brown straight hair) and it looks bad if not done properly. I just decided I deserve to be pretty and put together as often as I can - that means spending about 15 euros/week for few weeks, so I guess I am glad i don't get a new haircut too often. Gosh, I am just horrible with messing with hair.

Every 7 weeks for highlights and bang trim. All over hair trim every other time. For the Brazillian blowout every three months. If you are doing something basic your husband can take a flying leap for saying only 2X a year :)

I am sure there are talented women out there that have mastered the use of Clairol or other boxed color but I have yet to meet one myself who did the job right :) There's a reason to be a cosmotologist.

I'm like you, brown hair with highlights. I can stretch it out to every 3 months because I get them really subtle and my hair ends up lightening naturally with the sun as well. I used to get them much brighter/blonder and they would grow out so quickly, making me want to have them done more often. Even with subtle highlights, my hair ends up really blond by the end of the summer, so you can have your stylist put low lights in it so you can get back to stretching out appointments. My husband doesn't understand why I color my hair, he thinks I should just keep it natural but it's something I like so I'm pretty good with budgeting things so I can still afford to do it.

My hair is medium brown and my highlights are also pretty blonde. I get it done every 3 months also, and that is as long as i'd go. I don't like the dark roots showing either and my hair seems to grow fast.
