Hi,

I would like to know what you would pay for someone with an AA in Child Development and 10 yrs of experience to come to your house and care for your 15 mo old. The caregiver also has a 15 mo old that she will be bringing with her. It is an hourly position, 3-4 days, in a middle to upper class area.

Thank you for your time.

What can I do next?

Hello,
We live in your neck of the woods and when we had a nanny, we paid her $13 an hour. We went through an agency and they did all the background checks, etc. I'm not sure that I'd be ok w/ her bringing her own child, too, however. What if her child is sick? What type of arrangements will be made? What if YOUR child is sick and she doesn't want her child around yours? Things to think about.

I would SERIOUSLY reconsider hiring someone with their own child. I was a nanny with my own baby and my sister is a nanny and brings her 2.5 year old daughter with her, but it opens up a whole can of worms. Not one I was willing to deal with when looking for a nanny.

With that being said, I'd go maybe $12 an hour? Are you taxing her?

I pay $15 hour but if they had their own child it would be less.

I'm in LA and we pay our nanny $15/hr for our 17-month old, plus she helps with light housekeeping since the baby still takes long naps. She's had lots of work experience with kids and babies and is great with our baby. I actually think the AA in child development is great too, but only if you're comfortable with her. My mom stayed at home with her for the first 2 months to make sure she was good with our baby before she started watching the baby alone. That little "preview" window gave me great peace of mind.

Is this overnighs? During the business day? If it full time? Is it 3 hours each week?

All this factors in. Just telling me, that she is bring over a 15 month old and watching another 15 month old, is very little of the picture.

LOL. An AA in child development means nothing. It's all well and good, but experience is FAR more important than reading a few books and passing a few tests. It's not real life experience. I get that you are giving us all of the information about her and that is appreciated.

If she has 10 years of experience, then ask her what she charges when she brings her own child.

We pay our sitter/nanny/etc $20/hour. She is 30 and has known my children since our oldest was 6 months old, so 8.5 years. She disciplines them similar to us. They respect her and she can easily take our 3 kids and HER 19 month old out to do things. Our kids LOVE her daughter and it gives her daughter a chance to experience siblings. She went through her pregnancy watching the kids and then at 12 weeks brought the baby back with her. She drives from Corona and watches the kids 2 partial days each week, so we can work. T: 2:30pm-8:30pm and W: 8:30am-1pm

Our oldest is 9 and needs very little supervision. He helps her a lot. We homeschool and he's a self-starter. So she really watches our 5 yo and 3yo. We keep our 6 month old with us and take him to work, so at some point she'll watch him, as well.
