I am considering home schooling my dd too. She's 21 mos. but I cringe at the thought of sending her to public school. I have heard there are 2 private schools out here but I don't know anything about them. I am in the Carroll area so M. M. I'd love it if you have any info and sources to share on homeschooling. I've looked a little online but haven't found much. I want to be involved in a group of other hs'ers so we can possibly get help with tutoring or group field trips or whatever. My email is ____@____.com. THANKS.

I am homeschooling my 12 yo son. For the past two years my husband and I have done this. He has a sleeping condition and the early school hours in our town don't agree with him. I love it. Feel free to message me if you have more questions.

I homeschooled by son from K-5 and "forgot" to teach him cursive because he was typing 100+ words per minutes and printing really beautifully. So when he wanted to go to school with the other kids on the block, they put him back a grade to teach him cursive -- no matter that his test scores were all in the 8th-10th grade levels on the ITBS and other local tests.
I homeschooled my special needs daughter for 1 1/2 years in middle school and we both decided that was NOT going to work.
My third child, I sent to 4-year old pre-K and then homeschooled K & 1. Circumstances changed and I was no longer able to continue homeschooling BUT we have our own very active supplementary program and he is asked to tutor his peers in middle school.
By the way, I have ABECA curriculum K-6th grade that I'd be willing to sell for $50 per year. Most are NOT written in at all. Those which are written in are in pencil and easily eraseable.

Hi L.. I think home schooling is a wonderful experience- challenging, but very rewarding. My 2 brothers and I were home schooled for the last 8 years of our schooling. We had a wonderful experience. We were very involved in the home school association in Augusta, Ga. I have a 2 yr old son and I plan on quitting work at the end of this year in order to start pre-k with him. :) Good luck!

I realize that you sent this question out about home-schooling 5 months ago, but was wondering if you are "still" at-home-schooling and how difficult it was to get started doing this?? I will be moving to Newnan, GA in a few months (if not sooner - all depends on the house being ready for us to move in). The latest we will be there is December 1st. I have asked around once and gotten some advice about online information, but was wondering how you went about setting it up? If you could give me some pointers I'd really appreciate it. My children don't start school here in NY (where we presently live) until September - so I have time to either try and set things up from here to be ready when we get there or I might just see about getting homeschooling started in NY and transfer it to GA, but not sure if that will be more difficult then just setting things up for GA once we get there. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks ~C. (stay at home Mom of 2 - 6 year old daughter and 7 year old son)

Hello L. W,
I have homeschooled my 2 kids aged 9 and 7 from Nov.06 til last wk when I enrolled them here in public school here in Cumming, Ga. I had several bad experiences with teachers, academics and other kids in public and private schools that my husband suggested we home school. It was difficult due to their ages to get them to settle down and concentrate however, it paid off as they are both reading at 2 + grade levels above where they are now. I was very worried they were going to be behind, no such thing. I am very pleased with the public school they are in now as it is much better than any private school they have ever been in. I am a great supporter of homeschooling or any activity you can do with you children outside of having them in some kind of institution, daycare, etc. My kids never went to daycare or prek and have never suffered for it. Socialization comes with how you interact with other people as kids are sponges and take everything from you their parents. Well, that's enough from me.....Good luck

I am sorry in advanced for not having a whole lot of personal experience as in my daughter is only 6months old. But my husband was homeschooled from 6th-12th grade. We dated during his last three years of high school and he loved it. We are considering it for our child when it comes time. But there are some homeschool groups in the carroll area that would be able to help you better. These groups plan 'school trips' together, and sporting activites, etc. If you would like for me to get some contact info for you let me know.

Hello L.. I am a stay at home mom as well. My son is 4 and was going to pre-k in Georgia and we moved to SC. He stayed in the school for a few months and finally I got so tired of what the so called teachers were doing, teaching, and how they were acting I finally pulled him out. That was in Janurary of 07. Since then, I have been teaching him at home till kindercarten. He has been learning soo much more than he ever did in school. He knew all his ABCs with in a month and he and knows more than most kids. He can tell you the 5 main types of cells in your body, the names of the top and bottom layers of your skin and what determines the color of your skin. He knows most of his presidents and some states. He can count to 109 by himself. He knows how all the letters sound. Hes began to write and we're starting reading, remind you hes only 4. So I think home schooling is good but then Im worried about his interaction with the other kids. When we go to McDonalds, he plays with those kids and never wants to leave. Hes also in T-Ball and he never wants to leave from there either. I think he'd rather be with the kids. It really helps with that shyness and social skills that he may eventually get. (Cause he talked to EVERYONE and doesnt stop talking..LOL)My husbands whole family was home schooled. His sister was pulled out in 9th grade and shes ok. He was pulled out in 8th grade and his brother was pulled out in kindergarten. His brother is SO shy, doesnt have any friends and stays at home all day. Hes 18 now. Hes never really had any interaction with other kids besides his brother and sister and the kids in the youth. I think its a good idea to have something lines up so your son can play with other kids often. Other than that, I dont see a problem with it. I will be sending my son to kindergarten though. If I see that hes not learing anything, I'll pull him out again. Hes so smart now, he may know everything that they will teach him. He may get bored. So, Good luck in what you decide. God bless!!!
