Hello all: I'll be traveling with my two-and-a-half year old daughter to my parents' home for a week. She is tall for her age, and has shown some interest in climbing out of her crib at home. My parents have a pack and play, but I think she might get out of that pretty quickly. I'm researching portable cribs, and most of the reviews seem to be from parents of newborns. Has anyone used a portable crib for a toddler? If so, did it seem comfortable? Was the toddler able to crawl out? Is there a brand you recommend? Thanks!
Thanks for everyone's feedback. I don't agree with the comments about her being too big for a crib and that we should just put her on a mattress on the floor; I think you have to know your kid and what she is ready for. Mine's not ready for that freedom, especially in an unfamiliar, not entirely childproofed environment. So, I'll keep my search up.
She's ready for a bed. My kids started sleeping on a mattress on the floor at about 17 months.
She should be fine on a mattress on the floor or even a pile of blankets.
I definitely wouldn't spend money on a portable crib.
Get an inflatable mattress and put on floor. Too big for portable crib.
nest on the floor. between the expense, the hassle of transportation and the likelihood of a monkey climb, it's so much easier just make an inviting nest of blankies and stuffed animals.
my toddler liked his 'bear bed' so much that he slept there most of the time even after we got him a big-boy bed.

Our son climbed in and out of his crib by 15 months.
Use the pack and play and see how it goes.
If worse comes to worse, use a bed rail or two and have her sleep with you for the week of your visit.
Or a mat on the floor works well too.
She is too big for a crib. She is a toddler!!
My daughter crawled out of her crib at 17 months and at that point she slept on a mattress on the floor for a while and then moved on to put the mattress and box spring on a regular bed frame.
Let your child enjoy the bed on the floor at Grandma's house or sleep with you. She is growing up mom... they don't make cribs for toddlers!
The only portable cribs I've seen are smaller than a regular crib.
I'm surprised that she hasn't climbed out of crib before now. My grandchildren climbed out of the crib about the same time they were walking. Why are you keeping her confined? She needs to learn to stay in bed. You can teach her to do that. My grandchildren, 2 and 4, do get out of bed, every once in awhile, when they need something. Parents give them what they need and walk them back to bed.
My youngest grandaughter has been sleeping in a twin bed since she was 2. She slept in a pack and play until then. Because she was climbing out, her mom put her in a twin bed.
I wouldn't buy or rent a portable crib. She is too big. Also consider that the portable crib is less sturdy than a regular crib. I suggest you put her in the pack and play if it's large enough. Or make a pallet on the floor.
a toddler bed for home and an inflatable matterss on the floor for travel. there is a reason why you can't find portable crib reviews from parents of toddlers.. simply because toddlers are to bog for cribs and should be taught to sleep in a regular bed. we used the pack-n-play till they got the toddler beds at home then when traveling they slept with us or on the floor.
A child that is over 2 years old should be starting to move to a regular bed. That's why she is too tall for a toddler bed. She's a preschool age child and not a toddler anymore.
Put her in your bed or get a blow up mattress for her. At home start thinking about a big kid bed. My niece got each of her kids a queen bed at age 2 so they'd grow up in the bed they were going to have when they moved out.
At 2 or 2.5 we go with a blow up toddler bed. It sides are raised to prevent them from falling out. My 2.5 year is currently sleeping in it at my moms house.
