Enfamil Gentlease for a Gassy Baby?

We currently use Enfamil Lipil for our one-month old and he seems to respond quite well to it. He does, however, seem to have quite a bit of gas. Has anyone tried the Enfamil Gentlease formula for gassy babies and would you recommend it?

What can I do next?

I switched my baby to gentlease at 5 weeks and it ahs made a difference. Although he is still gassy(not as much) he is not as bothered by it when he passes it. Hope this helps.

One of the things we did was add the baby gas drops to the bottle instead of giving it to the baby. That always seemed to help with both my kids. Also, you can try the playtex drop in bottles. These bottles are great because you push up the liner and get out the air from the bottle before you feed and the liner collapses as you feed so the baby gets less air in their belly. After being on the lipil my daughter refused to drink the gentlease. We got a free sample and we tried it. The powder is totally different and I'm sure the taste is too.

We had the exact same problem with our one-month-old boy. He was on the regulat Lipil formula and he had a lot of gas and he started to throw up after about 3 weeks on it. We called the doctor and she recommended the Gentelease formula and it has been much better. He is still a bit gassy, but a little gas is normal. It is do much easier for him to digest. We highly recommend it. Good luck!

I did for my son who is 11 weeks now. And while it is a good formula, his problem was more with spitting up so he was switched again to Enfamil A.R. Lipil which works great for him. He was very fussy so that's why he was originally switched to the Gentlease. We found the fussiness was do to reflux, not gas. Anyway, the Gentlease is good but just watch out because his poops will be green and extra smelly! I mean EXTRA smelly!!! lol! My lil' Ryan could clear a room, that's how bad it was! No joke. I would ask his doctor before you make the switch though. Good luck!

Hi, I used Gentlease for a little while. My daughter hated the taste of it. She would spit it out and make faces, but she drank it reluctantly. I felt bad so I got Similac's version: Sensitive. She sucked it down and was much better as far as gas goes. I just couldn't let her eat something she hated. I think I might be in for it when she starts solids :). I suggest you keep a record of her gassiness for a week and then try the new formula the next week and keep track to see if you notice a difference, that way you have something to compare it to. Of course, ask your DR. about the switch. It's usually not a big deal. Good luck!

I have a 1 month old daughter who is VERY gassy. I started out breastfeeding - that made her really gassy (My diet isnt the greatest). I decided to use Similac Advance - her gassy issues got worse. Her Dr. recommended Enfamil Gentlease. He did say it would take about a week for the gassyness to die down. Life after Gentlease is an absolute pleasure!!!! She does get a little gassy from time to time, but its nothing compared to what it was before. I keep her elevated for at least 20 mins after a bottle which helps - and if she's really bad (which is rare) I give her Milicon. Thank goodness for Gentlease :-)

You may not need to change formulas--it could be the bottle that you are using. I would check with your pediatrician. Good luck!

I had given my daughter expressed breastmilk until 1 month old, then went to Enfamil Lipil. IT proved tough for her... same problem you have - we switched to Gentleease, which was better. The proteins are broken down more, so it is supposed to help baby digest. Of course, Carina was still gassy at times (breastmilk really didn't cause so much gas- it was great but I couldn't continue). Remember, your little guy's digestive system is still developing, and he's still going to have some gas. Now, she is almost 5 months, she is back on the Enfamil Lipil and she is doing wonderfully. She doesn't have much gas pains anymore. Only once in a while. I hope this helps.

BOTTLE BOTTLE BOTTLE!!!! I am breastfeeding and supplementing my one month old. I am using the Enfamil Lipil. I didn't want to use plastic so I bought the standard glass bottles. My baby has been having mild to moderate gas pain and constipation. Her fussiness has progressively gotten worse the past week or so and I thought changing formula was the solution. After reading some of the comments here I thought it best to not try changing formula and making matters worse! HOWEVER I did decide I would give in and go back to the plastic liners that I used for my other two children. I ended up finding the Born Free Smart Glass Bottle (found it at Target) and used it for the first time yesterday. My baby was very noticeably relaxed while feeding. With the other bottles she was straining and sucking so hard she would have her hands writhing and grabbing, usually at her face :( After feeding she burped right away and has been a much MUCH happier little girl! Only con is they are a little pricey at $10 a bottle but WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Hi A. - both of my kids had acid reflux and they were both on Similac Alimentum. It's pretty pricey but it's a real life saver. The doctor recommended either that or the Gentlease but I chose the Alimentum for two reasons - the first is that my older daughter used it and responded very well to it - and the second being Alimentum comes in ready to feed and Gentlease does not. It's way more convenient and more readily available in the stores! Good Luck!

You should try Gripe water. My grandson was very gassy and this seems to do wonders. You can find it in Walgreens.

Hi A.!

If you go to the Enfamil website you can read about the products and what each is good for (i.e. fussiness, gas, etc). You can also contact Enfamil directly and speak with a VERY helpful customer service rep who will probably offer to send you some of the formula you choose to sample. There were 2 separate occassions that I called and was surprisingly sent 6 cans of ready made enfamil lactofree!

Good luck!

Yes, it worked great but I realized it was made of sugar (read the ingredients) so I decided not to give it to my son and we stuck it out. I found he had the worst gas with similac. Every baby is different. If you don't care about the sugar then go for it!

Hey A.,

My daughter was and still is a gassy baby! Are you nursing too? or just formula? I use the gentle ease for my daughter and she does really well with it. I am nursing, pumping and using formula.I told her ped. about her being gassy and he said to use the gentle ease as well as to take certain gassy foods out of my diet.Example: brocolli, peppers, sauces , spicy things also cut back on dairy. She is doing much better, and is a very happy and content baby. You can also try to help your baby pass the gas by rubbing his lower back and tummy or lying him on his back and gently bring his legs up to his chest and back. I recommend gentle ease because it is a lot gentler on baby's tummy. It works for our daughter! Hope this helped!

I tried the Gentlease for the same reason at the same age. It didn't completely do the trick. We ended up switching to the Lacto-free and was on that for another couple months. Eventually though, we found out that the gas/discomfort was actually acid reflux and we had to go on Zantac and we then switched formulas to Nutramigen. Love that stuff!

Hi A.,

My son was started on the Enfamil Lipil in the hospital and seemed to be fine. After a few weeks of being settled in at home, though, it became a different story! We ended up putting him on the Gentlease after having little/no luck with Mylicon. This was also after a horrible bout of constipation. I'd consult with your pediatrician first. Otherwise, I'd recommend trying the Mylicon before switching formula. We're still using the Gentlease with our little guy (not so little at 10 months!) and he's a happy camper.

Congrats on the birth of your son - and enjoy every moment!

Yeah i used it. I tired 4 or 5 formulas before we got to this one. It worked like a charm. She started sleeping better at night and stopped all her extra fusing during the day.

Have you tried mylacon drops? You can find it in the drugstore and it's used for gassy babies. You can put it right in the formula. I would try that and see how it works before switching formula.
