Disney Trip Advice and More!

We are planning a trip to Disney (we are staying at a timeshare) in either late March/April.

Can anyone give us some tips on how to get better prices for entry into the parks other than at the gate? Are the websites out there legit and do they really offer a better deal than what you can get at the theme park directly?

Also, does anyone have any experience using a timeshare? Our family owns one in Fla, and we are doing a exchange for one close to Disney, so I am just looking to see if anyone has had any experience in this department.

I traveled with my son when he was 9 months old and he loved the characters and his picture opportunities with Goofy, Mickey Mouse etc. and especially its a small world ride at the Magic Kingdom. This time we thought about trying Universal - that is where Dr. Suess land is right?

Any advice or good timing to travel and avoid the shear madness of kids would be helpful. Last year I was there in March and it seemed like every kid in America was on spring break; but we had an awesome time and I have absolutely no regrets (I am previous flordian); the pictures sure are priceless from our experience. I hope we can go every year. This time, however, before going, I am trying to enlist the help of all you experienced Mom's who might know a little more than us on what are must see's and to' do's in the parks.

Thanks so much for your time,
K.

We went to Orlando and stayed at the Hilton Grande on International (timeshare) and did Disney. It was the best because we could go to the park and play but then leave and relax in the timeshare. My son had just turned 3 so we would go to the parks when they opened leave around 1-4, get in air conditioning, rehydrate, take naps and then return back to the parks and stay through closing for the fireworks and lazer shows which are awesome. We did do a timeshare presentation and recieced 2 adult disney tickets and 3 tickets to Gatorland for free. Going on the timeshare tour (Wyndham) took 2.5hours but we needed the break on tickets so it was worth it. We did some of the activities at the timeshare including the pool and playground but we also did Bingo, and tyedying tshirts. Hope this helps, have fun on your trip!!

A good website to visit that will give you good info on Disney World is www.allearsnet.com. I think they also have a section that talks about non disney stuff such as Universal. As far as tickets go you can try www.mapleleaftickets.com. As you get closer to your trip I would also check www.mouseplanet.com, they usually give some good info about rides/shows will be closed for rehab etc. I would also find out which day each park is having early entry. Since you aren't staying on property you won't be able to take advantage of that but you will know which park to not go to. If MK is having early entry than you should go to one of the other parks. It won't be as crowded since everyone else will be at the early entry park.

As for a must see, your son will probably really enjoy the Pooh Bear Playground and Toon Town at the Magic Kingdom. At Animal Kingdom they have a playground with sand near the dinosaur ride and at MGM they have the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground.

The only other thing I can think of right now (I love Disney, so I can always come up with something) is that your son will be older this time around. Being older he is more aware of things than he was at 9 months and therefore might not be as open to the characters. We went with my neice who at the time was 20 months and she wasn't all smiles when it came to the characters. We still got some great pictures as she was very serious with them and more into studying them and really looking at them. As for the rides, she didn't seem to really care at all. She did notice however that most the rides that she could do were in the dark (Pirates, Small World, etc) and she would only sit with her mom. She wasn't scared of them but she definitely wasn't sure about them. Enjoy your trip!!

We toured a timeshare that our Holiday Inn Sunspree referred us to and got a discount on our tickets.... a big discount. It was worth the 2 hours and we are good at saying "NO" we are not going to buy. If you can't say no, don't do it. The timeshare thing is all set up for people with kids. Ours had a great time playing in their center while we toured. I think I saved about $300.
