Hi. So, ideally, I'd like to lose about 30kg (66 pounds). But I'd be more than happy if I lost 10-20 kg (22-44 pounds). Does anyone have any good diets that work? Help would be greatly appreciated :)

What can I do next?

I realized after researching heart healthy diets that this was the healthy way to eat and still lose weight. It most closely resembles the South Beach Diet and the Mediteranean Diet.

I lost 10 lbs quick and felt so much better just by cutting a few things. I stopped all processed carbs, sugar, fried food, cokes, white flower, white rice. All white stuff is totally out.

I found when I stopped eating bad carbs, I didn't have cravings anymore. I'm not hungry anymore.

I eat only real food now. Nothing pre-packaged. Shop around the outside walls of the grocery store. Try not to go into the aisles at all except for brown rice and dry beans.

I have started adding in whole grains but my daily diet is made up of mostly vegetables, a little bit of chicken or fish, whole grains, olive oil, green tea, and unsalted nuts. I feel so much better! And I can see the results.

Weight Watchers is a reasonably priced weightloss program that works for many people. It teaches you the best foods to eat and manage portion control. It will also help you set goals in a sensible and realistic manner.
Sparkpeople is a good website that is free (as mentioned below). They have some yummy recipes on there. Myfitnesspal is an app you can get for your phone or ipad that a lot of people have been really happy with lately.
You could also hire a personal trainer. They will help you with nurtrition and exercise goals. Also check with local grocery stores. Some of them have a dietician on staff that can help you plan healthy menus. Good luck!

Before you go on a "fad" diet, you should really learn a little bit about nutrition. I think you should find out how many calories you need to be consuming and start counting! It is a real pain in the behind to count calories, but there are trackers online that can help you. Also, you did not mention exercise, but hopefully you are getting some movement done. HAve you tried sparkpeople.com? It is a website where you can track what you have eaten, track your exercise etc, and learn a lot about nutrition and other health related topics.

Also- There has been a lot of talk lately about how ice water helps you loose more weight than room temperature, or even cold water. 8 glasses of ice water a day will help you reach your goal.

Good luck!

Hi. I am in the same boat as you, although want to loose slightly less than you. Weight Watchers is a good program, they teach you the proper way to eat, more so than how to "diet". My mom did it and was successful, I've never tried it as I cannot afford the costs of the meetings, evaluations etc. First thing you should do is see your doctor, get a full physical w/ blood work, to ensure everything is in balance. If it's not it can hinder the process. Seek out a nutritionist that can work with you and your lifestyle. I don't know how active you are but start exercising, it can be as simple as walking to begin with and add more. Know that a safe amount of weight to lose is 1-2 pounds a week, losing more than that and you loose muscle tone and that is not what you want! I started awhile ago and have been happy with results so far! My energy is up and I feel so much better :) Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat so a slight gain or lack of loss is not necessarily a bad thing. I don't eat any seafood and the lack of iodine, omega-3 etcs from my diet was not good for my thyroid, I now take supplements and it really helped. That's why I said to have a complete blood work up, you may be fine, but its best to find out. I do a bootcamp and it's hard but I love it! I hate running and now I can keep up with and pass avid runners! Be patient. It's hard I know, but for lasting results slow and steady wins the race :) Good Luck!

I have to say you really do not have to go on a diet. I would say just change the way you eat. Like smaller portions, healthy choices, drink more water, cut out sweets and unhealthy snacks. Pick one day a week that you might want a brownie or crave a not so good choice of food. Start walking more, join a class that has fun workouts. You will lose weight that way, the right way. You have to make the choice to change your habits that all. You can do it! I did!

I highly reccomend Weight Watchers. I love the program. You may lose weight slowly-about a 1 pound or so a week, but are more to keep it off. I joined 6 weeks ago and am very happy to have lost 8lbs! 20 more to go! I also started a 1 hour kick boxing class 2 days a week and walk daily. I know the exercise helps a lot.
I wish you the best!

Hi A., yours is a very popular question "how do I lose weight?". So before you make this journey, decide what it is that you want:

1. Do you want to lose weight or release it forever? NB: Anyone can lose weight but keeping it off with ease seems to be where the REAL goals lie.

2. Are you willing to "give up stuff" or would you rather "add stuff" to your diet? Diet is not a bad word, by definition, diet means "the food a species eats"

3. What is the purpose of getting rid of the pounds? Increased self esteem? Better health? More lifestyle options?

4. What changes are you will to make changes to get the results you want?

These are the questions I ask my cleansing clients before I agree to work with them. You see, anyone can lose weight, really, just look at the multi- billion dollar diet industry - those WW people who lose and gain and lose and gain and have "lifetime memberships", and what about those "fad" lose weight-in-a-box kind of things you get at the stores? Seriously!?!

A., 6 years ago I was on a very unhealthy path, 40 lbs over weight, never feeling "my best", tired, cranky, and really not very happy with myself. Then my world changed. I made a decision to NEVER DIET AGAIN and take a look at what I was actually doing to my body...because it's not just about the FOOD WE EAT that causes us to be unhealthy and overweight...It is our environment, our stress levels, the water we drink, the pesticides in our foods and so much more. What I discovered was I was that ONLY person who cared enough about me to take care of my HEALTH...my doctor kept feeding my sickness. I took control, I partnered with people who CARED about me as a person and not a prescription and I took responsibility for my own life.

And now, well, after 6 years, I have helped over 2000 people start on their health journey. Some have stayed, some have strayed and some down right quit...you will be one of those people. But you won't know until you get started.

A., are you ready to NEVER DIET AGAIN?

I've had amazing success with two "apps" for my phone/tablet. The first is a calorie journal, Lose It. By logging my calories at every meal, I've learned to make much wiser choices about what I consume so I can lose roughly 1 pound a week and still eat what I enjoy (just less of it).

The second app is C25K. This is a "learn how to jog" app that takes you from being a couch potato to running a 5K in 9 weeks. Trust me, if *I* can learn how to jog without having a heart attack, ANYONE can do it. I did have to repeat a few weeks because I didn't feel ready to move on, but it does work. I can now jog 30 minutes in a row without dying! :p

I started Lose It in July 2011 and C25K in January 2012. Since July 2011, I've lost 38 pounds and nearly 20 inches off my chest, waist and hips. I've dropped nearly 4 skirt sizes and, for the first time in 10 years I can wear non-"women's" size clothing.

I'm not anything special. I work full time. I'm a wife of over 20 years and the mother of two sons, 18 and 14. Two seperate friends introduced me to these to apps and I made the commitment to myself that, slowly but surely, I was ready to shed my nearly 100 excess pounds. For the first time in my life (and I mean that seriously), I actually think I can do it thanks to the success I've found with these two apps.

All I can say is slow and steady wins the race. You didn't put the extra pounds on overnight and they're not going to come off overnight. I try to find joy in really small things, like NOT having breadsticks at Olive Garden or being happy with one cookie instead of three. All these little victories add up to a pound off a week. And when they don't...well, there's always next week!

Good luck!
