Diaper Rash That Won't Go Away (4 Months of It!)

I went through the same thing with my daughter. The only thing that worked for us (and we tried everything that was listed on the other responses) was diaper free time. While it got very messy, for every minute she was awake her diaper was off. Laundry increased, but the rash went away within three days. I know it seems simplistic, but after fighting with every cream, ointment, supplement and treatment, this is what worked. Good luck!

Have you tried diaper creams w/ zinc oxide? Target's brand of diaper cream is one of the best (and cheapest) around! Boudreaux's Butt Paste is great, but more expensive. Another thing you might want to try is giving her yogurt. At 8 months old she is old enough and just like when we get yeast infections w/ antibiotics and take them w/ yogurt to alleviate the problem, you might want to try that too. Mainly you just want to make sure to keep the area as dry as possible and the zinc oxide blocks moisture the best.

We went through the same thing with our daughter when she was only a couple of months old. We tried Nystatin prescription and it didn't work, fluconazole didn't work either. Then our Dr told us to try lotrimin. It's over the counter and it's used to treat athlete's foot. We finally got rid of it using lotrimin. We put it on for every diaper change. So try that, it's the only thing that worked for us.

Lotrimin over the counter worked great and we also did yogart. Yo baby or something good natural and organic.

Our ped always prescribed Lotramin AF for yeast infections. I know it's weird that its really for a foot fungus, but it's completely safe for external diaper yeast infections, on girls and boys, and it works within a day or two. I know that there's a new ointment out there called Vusion, but we've never tried it.
For diaper rashes that come from the many antibiotics babies need in the cold & flu season, I always keep a container of Triple Paste on hand. It's a nice thick layer and it has helped prevent my twins from getting yeast infections. I also give them baby yogurt, vanilla, this has also helped curb it.

I have to ask, what kind of laundry detergent are you using?
My daughter & I used to get yeast infections all the time. Matter of fact our son did too! I switched my laundry to a certain brand and I haven't had a yeast infection since! Neither has my daughter or my son!

The doctors had my daughter on a lot of anti-biotics for ear infections & sinuses! Which led up to the yeast infections. But i remember it took awhile to go away.

Diaper rash is caused by friction and irritation in the presence of moisture. It is common skin irritation affecting babies. It triggers yeast to grow. This occurs naturally when wet diapers are not changed promptly. Babies will vary in their susceptibility to developing diaper rash. Keeping the skin as dry as possible is one of the best methods of prevention.

All I can say is there are products out there that are safer than the products on the market. I have a very difficult time with laundry detergents and other cleaning products on the market today. I haven't used them for many years.

There is a book out there to get yourself educated. It is called: The Safe Shopper's Bible. Please, all you moms & dads should own it! It is a real eye opener. Education is key! If you only knew what is in those products that are on the shelves at the grocery store or market places, you would think twice about letting it in your home and especially using them on your babies!

Our secret to any type of rash is called Corona. It is actually made for animals that get cuts and such. We get ours at White Drug in Bismarck - ask for it in the pharmacy. It is really thick cream and works like a charm for any type of rash. We put it on really thick so if your child wets or dirties a diaper, it has a great barrier and wont irritate it any more. You will see results over-night.

You can apply plain yogurt directly on to the rash. Be sure that it has no sugar or sweetener of any kind in it! Otherwise I would take her to another pediatrician to see what they say.
Have you ever done essential oils? You could try putting 4 or 5 drops of lavendar oil in her bath water. It is supposed to encourage the growth of new skin cells and is very soothing. It's worth a try!
The yogurt thing is amazing though. I would have her eat yogurt too. Cascade Fresh is great and is sweetened by fruit juice and no sugar. You can also buy a child's probiotic at almost any chiropractor. She probably needs to increase the good bacteria in her system to fight the yeast.

We did diaper free it helped. Then our dr told us about Aquaphor-healing ointment (can get at department or drug stores). It did wonders. I still keep it in the house my youngest does not wipe well after he goes to the rest room(he is geting better at it) and will get red. I like it so much I include a bottle with all my baby/shower gifts I give.

I was wondering if you use cloth diapers?
If you do when you wash them next time you will want to put a cup of vinager in the water and wash like normal this changes the ph of the water which kills the yeast. You can also put a cup in her bath water that will help a lot also. If you would like more info about yeast please let me know. :)T.

you need to get some good bacteria in her system. Find Acidophilus caplets, the kind you can break open. You can put the powder in applesauce, or just put it on her tongue (1/2 caplet 2-3times a day) and let her swallow it. Also yogurt contains acidophilus so getting a serving or two of that a day in her will help as well.

Nystatin contains sugar, and since yeast thrives on sugar, its not really a big helper. I know its prescribedo ften, but its not effective anymore on yeast.

Try over the counter Monistat. Good Luck.

We used monistat externally and that got rid of our son's extreme yeast infection/diaper rash

My doctor recommended Lotrimin. I use whatever cream antifungal (athlete's foot cream)is cheapest at Target. It all works.
