I have a 4 1/2 yr old princess who wants to be a "my little pony" for Halloween. There are ride pony, ride unicorn costumes but no actual be a pony costumes for kids. The only be a pony i can find is for an infant. I can barely draw a straight line, any advice on how to make a my little pony pony costume? I can glue, and sort of hand stich!

What can I do next?

My number 1 "crafty mom" rule? Stick to pre-made items as your base - it saves a ton of time, and insures that your little one will have a properly fitting outfit. So, that being said, ask her what color pony she wants to be. I think the pony you are referring to is gray. So, go out and get her a plain gray jogging suit (the top needs a hood). You'll need yarn for whatever color she wants her mane, and if you're low on glue sticks - stock up now! :) There is some fabulous multicolored yarn that would be great for this project. Get some fabric for the underside of the pony (pink maybe?). You'll want to cut that in a large oval like shape and then cut it in two pieces - the top to be glued on her shirt, the bottom piece for her pants. It should be arranged so that when she puts on the suit her "belly" will line up. Next you'll need some felt or foam sheets for her ears. Both of these materials will cut easily and stand upright when on her head. You need to cut lots and lots of pieces of yarn for her mane and they will be glued, one at a time, :) to the top and back of her hood. Just keep gluing until you have a full mane. You'll need to cut two ears by cutting triangular shapes from the foam or felt (whichever you went with) and glue those on either side of the mane. You might want to invest in some face paint too, if your daughter wants it. Now, the only thing left is the hooves. I would use foam sheets and elastic for the feet hooves, by cutting a long rectangular shape from the sheet and punching holes (with a hole punch or it will tear) and then tying elastic string through. This is to wrap around her shoe, you can try drawing some detail with a paint marker, if you like. Also, try to have her in gray shoes, or put one of Dad's old gray socks over her shoes before the hooves step - if you take this route be careful. The sock will cover the shoes' grips (and probably be ruined by the end of the night). For the hand hooves, do something similar with gray gloves. Obviously the hooves for the hands will be smaller. Oh, I almost forget the tail. :) Use the same yarn as you used for the mane and glue some to the end of a piece of craft rope (that can be painted gray) or rolled up gray fabric. You can stitch or sew the tail to her pants. I think that covers it. :) Now why didn't I make my daughter a pony? ;) Oh yes... If all else fails, add some glitter and she'll love it. There are some great glitter fabric sprays in the craft section. :)

I actually made one last year. My then 41/2 year old wanted to be "Pinkie Pie". After a bit of trial and era I discovered that what worked and looked best for the main and tail were costume wigs. I found pink dress-up wigs at the toy store. I used a pink sweat suit and attached the main to ribbon then onto the hood along with ears made out of foam. (I actually used snap tape so I could wash the suit) I attached the tail to ribbon so that it could velcro around her waist. I even painted the "cutie mark" on the hip and sleeve. It was really adorable, if I can say so myself. Good luck- I hope this helps!

You may want to consider piecing something together. For example: Try a horse mask: http://www.buycostumes.com/Horse-Mask-Child/33832/Product... and a pretty pink (or purple wig):http://www.halloweenexpress.com/barbie-pastel-pink-wig-p-.... You can even take some of the hair from the neck area of the wig and cut it off, then put it in a pony tail and tie a big pink bow around it to cover the hair tie and then clip it on the waist of her pants or skirt. A basic pink shirt and pants or skirt should be perfect for this outfit. Remember she is 4, so although it may not look perfect to you, she will think it is wonderful.... not to mention no one else will have it! Also, if you want to get really fancy, you can spray paint the mask pink (or whatever color pony she wants to be), except the eyes and mouth, and then use a Sharpie to draw eye lashes. My Little Pony is a Diva, so keep this in mind. Good luck!

I was thinking a pink leo, pink tights and putting some big man style white tube socks over a pair of shoes (to look like horses hooves). I would also put some of those kiddo hair extensions you see at the Dollar Store, along her back like a mane. Get a long haired kid sized wig from Walmart for $5, put some glitter in it and some bows (like My little pony does) and top it off with body glitter on her face and arms and socks! Voila! My little pony!

There is a tape that you iron on fabrics instead of sewing. YOu can find it walmart or fabric stores. I used to help make a custome for my dog. Very easy to do.
