Hello All,
My husband and I need to hire a nanny for the week of Spring Break. The work hours will be from 7:30 am until around 3:00 pm Monday - Thursday. I will be working from home the entire time but need someone to play with my girls (ages 4-1/2 and 2-1/2) so I can get my work done.

So my question - for the DC / Northern VA area - what should I offer to pay?

Thank you!

What can I do next?

Since you'll be home, try and hire a local teen (someone recommended and responsible). I would offer $300 - $350 for the week. Its 7 1/2 hours a day, 30 hours total so $10 an hour would be $300.

I have a local teen who sits for me for date nights etc and during the summer I have her do 9 hours a week for $90 so I can work part time from home.

If you are going through a service, the rate will be set. If you will be hiring someone for just a week, then I am guessing the person would not be a "professional nanny", so $12- $15 and hour would be adequate. A babysitter in that area (I used to live there) makes $10-$15 an hour, so "full time" for 4 days... I would offer $400- $450 (depending on the person's qualifications) CASH for the week.

My friend in Fairfax pays $500/week for care from 8am-5pm. Her kids are 4 and 7. The 7 year old is in school pretty much the whole time the nanny is there. The 4 year old is in preschool for 3 of those hours. Because of that, my friend has also asked her nanny to help with some vacuuming and preparing dinner. Don't know if that helps you, but thought I'd share what I knew about someone in the area!

My friend who lives in north Arlington pays $18/hour for a qualified nanny to watch her two boys (ages 2 and 4). My other friend in the Prince William County pays $16/hour for her 6 month old and 3 year old.
