This may seem silly, but for their first Halloween together I would like my girls' costumes to coordinate and need some ideas. I was thinking two characters from the same movie, theme, etc...One is three and the other will be 10 months at Halloween time. Thanks for your input and ideas!

What can I do next?

We've done zoo animals (one a giraffe, the other a lion) and last year got matching chicken costumes from Old Navy - that was adorable! I thought about doing a chicken and an egg too, I think Parenting or Family Circle or one of those mags had a cute/easy pattern last year for a homemade hatching egg. For two little girls a butterfly and a flower would be cute, or maybe a flower and a bumblebee, I know I had a bumblebee costume for my son at 9 months, they are easy to find for babies. Have fun, I also love coordinating costumes - you're thinking ahead this year, I haven't even considered it yet!

I would let your older girl pick whatever she wants to be...and then get creative with the baby!

Your oldest will get all kinds of joy from picking out her own idea, and you can even involve her in deciding what to do for her little sister, and have that be a bonding activity. You can even talk with her about what she wants to be today! Once she decides on "something" idea-wise you'll still have full control over the implementation and how much you want her involved in the actual details (like picking stuff out).

I have 3 little girls, all under 5. I understand your desire! My oldest was born on Halloween, so it's been extra special for us to create a "look" to the celebration. One year when we had 2 little ones, we did "winnie the pooh" and the baby was a "Huney Pot" from the pooh collection.
Another favorite is princesses. black cat and witch, (since the baby is pretty young, you want something warm and comfy, so the cat, the huney pot, these costumes are ideal for little ones.) You could also make your baby a flower and your 3 year old a fairy. If she's anything like my girls, she loves dressing pretty!

Hope these ideas help. Ebay's a great source for costumes. We may even have the Huney pot and pooh set if you're interested in borrowing or buying it, let me know.
Good luck.
This year my girl's have decided to do super hero costumes!

I suggest 2 Disney princesses. The baby could be Ariel the Little Mermaid and the 3 year old could be Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. At 3 years old, my daughter loved the Disney Princesses and always wanted to dress up as them. E-bay has great prices on "gently used" costumes. Order early though so it will be at your house well before Halloween. Last year we ordered a little late and the costume for my son was way too big and we had to improvise. Good luck!!!

TJ,

You could to winnie the pooh, have the baby be tigger or eyore. I know my baby was 7 months old at her first halloween and she was a little pumpkin.

If you have one near you The Disney store, or even a Halloween super store might have good ideas.

Most likely my son will want to be a firefighter for the 3rd Halloween in a row, and my daughter just might be a dalmatian (if the costume still fits).

Best of luck,
Melissa

Hi TJ,
I am totally the same way! My youngest was born on 10/30 so we have the extra B-Day pressure (OK I totally create the pressure) to look extra cute.
Last year They were Alice and the White Rabbit. I think This year we are doing Dorothy and Toto. My oldest is pretending to be a dog every day.
The other thing we were thinking about is an Elephant and a Lion or a Bee & Lady Bug.
I am sure that no matter what you decide to dress them up as they will look adorable!
Have fun!

TJ- When I had my 2nd son's first halloween he was a jalepeno pepper and my 3 year old son was a sombrero wearing "charro", one of those guys that sings under their lovers window. it was so freakin' cute, the jalepeno even had a hat with little green "hot"leaves.
If you have girls you could do all those girly princesses, tinkerbells or fairies. Or really original, bat and ball, dice, TV and Remote control, ummmmm....JUST kidding, my kids would never go for that!
I thought the idea of the honey pot was SUPER cute.

Hey, thanks for the "sex" advice. Maybe one of these days I will get around to it! :)

My girls are 21 months apart and for the first 2 years they wore matching costumes. First year they were rag dolls, I picked this and bought online from a halloween type store. The second year they were mermaids, my oldest picked and I made the costumes. I really enjoyed this and they got so many complements on them, and now they are part of their dress up wardrobe. This year my oldest decided (back in January)they were going to be a honey bee and a ladybug, which I will be making again.
I recommend getting some ideas from your oldest and use that as your starting point. Then look online for ideas on what options are out there. There are so many fun ones.
If all else fails let them do one major costume that they will go trick or treating in, and give them other options for the days leading up to halloween or even earlier that day. Last year my oldest started the day as a cat, then had her face painted as spiderman, and finished off by trick or treating as a mermaid.
