Hi, My 8 month old is sensitive to products containing coconut. It makes her skin red and whelpy. I started reading labels and most natural products contain coconut. Even detergents have it in it. I am going to be getting Soap Nuts for our laundry.

I just started doing research on it and would like any resources you all might have. We use mostly organics and seek natural personal care products when possible.

Thanks,
S.

So What Happened?

Hi, Thank you for your responses. I had her tested using a biofeed back scan with a naturopathic doctor. (http://www.wholebodyhealingcenter.com/SCIO.shtml) My 29 month old has eczema and we had her tested earlier this year after all other tests failed to pick up what was causing her skin to flare and only getting toxic prescriptions from dermatologists. Ended up she is sensitive to dairy, garlic, potatoes, tuna, and gelatin. Now that we have eliminated those from her diet her skin is 95% clear. She is like a different child. (blood tests at 8 months showed peanut allergist but she never got them) So when my 8 month old started developing bad skin like her sister I took her straight for the scan. The main things it picked up where almond and coconut. She is only breastfed however everything natural has coconut in it and her skin will clear after a bath and vaseline. So she appears to have contact dermatitis as opposed to her sister who reacts to food she eats. I have tried both Arbonne and Melaluca on my oldest but haven't checked the ingredients yet on them. I will do that today. I have so many bottles of lotion from the 2 years of trying to treat my oldest. I will have to take the time to look at them all. I am finding there is not alot of information on line about coconut sensitivity. Keep the responses coming. Thank you very much.

What about using Ivory soap./detergent. Does it contain coconut? When I had a very bad alergic reaction, the dermotologist told me to wash my clothes in Ivory detergent.

Hi S.. I asked my clinical nutritionist about this and here's what she said:

"This sounds like a problem with digesting and metabolizing essential fatty acids (EFAs) - which can be an underlying gall bladder or liver problem. Unless there are pesticides or herbicides in the coconut, there is no reason on earth for a human to be intolerant to coconut. So the next thing to look at is the organ/glands that metabolize fatty acids, which is what coconut is full of. Give her my number and I will be glad to talk to her about this."

S.,

It is hard to find good natural products. I use to use burts bee's products, then I tested their acidic levels and they were stronger than pool and perm solutions. I am now very carful what products I use and I test them all first. I am now an Arbonne represenative. I am a National Vice President with Arbonne International. We have botinically based products that are pure, safe, and binificial. We have products ranging from cosmetics, personal care, baby care, anti-aging, weightloss and nutirition, detox, arometharapy, etc. I would love to get you some more information and some samples if you are interested in learning more about their amazing products. You can also print out an ingredient list on every product before purchase as well. Please Contact me if you are interested.

Look into the Method laundry detergent. Also look into Lush - its not laundry stuff, but it is soap, shampoo etc. All natural.

Hi S.,
Arbonne doesn't have coconut in their products and they have an entire Baby Skin Care line (lotion, oil, wash, sunscreen and diaper rash cream). We've used it on our kids, one of them having eczema issues, with great success. Arbonne is botanically-based, no mineral oils, chemicals, dyes, fragrances, animal products/by-products, etc. You can check them out on my website www.foravibrantlife.myarbonne.com. I would be happy to send you a sample and give you my 35% discount on your first order. I can email you the complete ingredient list on any of the products. Let me know how I can help.
I wish you the best and congrats on your little one! They are so much fun!

Hi S.,

I would talk to your pediatrician and make sure this is not a peanut allergy. At 8 months, you are probably not giving her peanut butter, but those with peanut allergies are told to avoid all nuts completely.

And don't worry! Peanut allergies are easy to live with, just takes some more research. Also, peanut allergies CAN be outgrown if you are extremely diligent in avoiding nut products.

Best luck,
M.

Hi,

The first year of my oldest son's life was a nightmare with food allergies. He was allergic to everything a baby and one year old eats.

To make a long story shorter, I started with accupressure for his allergies. It was recommended by a friend. The first one I used called "NAET" worked great, but only lasted a year and all his allergies came back. It's the method most of the accupuncturists around town use.

I then found a chiropractor/holistic doctor in Arlington. She did her allergy treatments and he's been food allergy free for the last 3 1/2 years. Also, no drugs, needles, etc and a chiropractor may be covered by your insurance.

My new baby had skin or perfume allergies to everything and broke out to every fabric that touched his body. I took him in at two weeks for his first treatment. It really cut down on his skin rashes.

I'm more of a "get to the root of a problem and fix it" instead of "putting a band aid on it" kind of person.

Here is her information. http://healthbyhandswellness.com/

Good Luck,
S.
