I am currently BFing. She has now started taking the bottle again with breast milk. However I have noticed that my milk supply has gone down and I'm not having any luck getting it back pun I'm going to make the switch to formula and I am wondering which is a good one. I know of enfamil and have been trying that with her but she is not liking it. Spits up half of it. So any suggestions?

My daughter went to formula for a little while after breastfeeding and she didn't like Enfamil or Similac, her Dr. said those were similar and that he preferred Nestle's Goodstart over them anyway, more nutrients or something...and she loved it.

It's definitely different. Have you tried mixing them? Start w/ 75% BM and 25% formula for a day or so, then move to 50/50 etc. This may help her and her digestive system adjust.

I would highly recommend Nestles Good Start after trying many formulas. I think it will take a couple of weeks for her to get use to any formula. Both of my girls spit up a lot and my pediatrician said some kids spit up more than others. If they aren't crying when they spit up it is just an annoying laundry issue.

She might be sptting up more because formula is not as compatiable as breast milk. formula babies just tend to spit up more. my son spit up alot intill he was 6mnths old then it lessen (but didnt stop till about 8mnths) his doctor said that the spit up always looks like more than it is. unless it seems to be causing her discomfort she should be fine. you could try switching to a soy based formula like similac and see if this helps. one formula I would not try is good start. it mixes horriably. gets clumpy fast and made my son sick

Ask your pediatrician their advice.

We had to switch our daughter from breast feeding to formula at 3 months. She didn't have a choice, I couldn't nurse (had started chemo). She took to it fine and wasn't picky.

We started with Similac and Enfamil because it's what we had spoken with our pediatrician about. Eventually, we moved to Costco's Kirkland brand. She was never below the 75th percentile on either height or weight.

What our pediatrician could tell us is valid based upon my career in the pharmaceutical industry: he can validate the claims of the larger brands about their products because they've done the scientific research to prove their products do what they're supposed to. Generic brands may have the same ingredients listed, but their proportions are different, and the manufacturing process is different which alters the end product.

We felt comfortable with our decision, but we had to have that conversation first.

Generally speaking, I think switching from BF to formula will be an adjustment no matter what brand you use. I used Enfamil and many I know have used Enfamil and had no problems. However, my sister had lots of problems with her daughter, she ended up going to nestle good start and its what worked better for her daughter. I've read Nestle good start is a good transition formula from breast milk
But ultimately, I would see what your daughter's pediatrician says about it.

On the La Leche League website, there are great articles about breastfeeding. This one talks about how moms think their babies are not getting enough milk and stop breastfeeding prematurely - http://www.llli.org/FAQ/increase.html

Don't give up too soon. It is so much more economical and convenient, not to mention the benefits to your precious baby.

It will take her some time to adjust. I used enfamil lipil, and as will all formula, you must burp more frequently than when breast feeding to help keep there from being too much spit up. I have heard good start is good as well. I think most of them are pretty similar these days, and are just as healthy as breast milk. You may want to start with a slower flow nipple until she gets more used to it.
