I am in the market for an in ground pool child safety cover. I have had a few companies come out with different options covers, gates, and alarms. Any opinions on what products are the best? I currently have alarms on all of my doors, but you can never be to safe around pools with small children. Thanks

We opted for a Tall Rod Iron Fence that surrounds the pool - our whole yard is fenced in with another fence - and my boys are so inquisitive I have no dout they'd open the cover - they open ever child latch in the house and they're only 18 mo and 2 1/2.

I have a katch-a-kid cover, which is the safety pool net. It can supposedly hold 400 lbs, but we have not tested that fact. I was fairly certain that my kids could get over a gate if they wanted to, so I didn't think that was a good option for us. The biggest bonus is that the net does not distract from your backyard view - some of those safety gates are pretty ugly and hide the work and $ you have put into a beautiful backyard. Plus - you can get a leaf cover to put over the net, so you can keep it a lot cleaner during the winter/fall when all the leaves and other junk is falling off of the trees. The installation was very easy and you really can't see the holes that the hooks go in at all. I highly recommend the net! Also - it is completely impossible for most adults to get the net off if they haven't been trained. If kids try to climb on it, they will get wet. The lady that sold ours said that it will scare them to death (although they won't be in any danger) and they won't do it again. It only takes us about 10 minutes to put the net back on - less than that to take it off.

I recently had a "Catch-a-Kid" net put on my pool and I love it. I am very pleased with the product and the price. If you would like the phone # for the contact I used, feel free to email me and I will send it to you.

We have a Katch A Kid safety fence. If a permanent wrought iron fence isn't possible (I think they look nicer), then I would take this option if I had to do it again. There is no way my six year old could open any of the hooks that connect the screens together. And, she couldn't get the gate latch open either. If she were really crafty, she might be able to figure out how to push lawn furniture up to it and get over the fence. But, only an older child who presumabley knows how to swim could do this and in my mind this becomes more of a discipline issue, not one of safety. Plus, I don't leave them outside by themselves yet anyway. (I also have a 1 and 3 yr old.) I have been to a friend's house with the safety net. I believe 100% in the safety of it, but it is a pain keeping the little ones away. They want to crawl on it and use it as a jungle gym. Their legs get caught in the ropes. I am happy we didn't choose that option. One more thought on the safety fence, it isn't as hard as the sales rep told us it would be to take it down entirely or put it back up. My husband and I can do it easily in 15 minutes. We have only done this once, but I remember it being a concern when we bought it. Hope this helps.
