Hi, I am the mom of 19 mo old twin boys who love to eat! Soon as they hit the car seat they think "Where's my snack?" I am grateful that they are good eaters, but it keeps my van a disaster. Does anyone have any ideas for good snacks on the go that dont make a mess (ie crumbs, etc)
I have tried putting things like teddy grahams in small cups, but they end up dumping them out - since they are curious as to what the cup tastes like -lol

What can I do next?

I feel your pain! I remember those days...my youngest (of 4) is now 3, so we're in the clear. I guess I would switch to a baggy of vegetables. Either small enough that they won't choke or large enough (like a whole carrot or celery stick) that they can gnaw on and enjoy. No, they probably won't like it. But....they say it takes 10-20 tries to like a food and they would grow used to it and hopefully come to enjoy veggies. Also, it won't squish or smell if it falls under them or on the floor. You don't want them to be conditioned to having to have a snack the minute they hit the carseat....what do you do when you didn't bring one or grandma has to drive them somewhere? Try having a toy ready to distract them or something new to play with....something squishy in a baggy (unless they'd chew the baggy), an old remote control. Just some ideas....good luck!

Carrot sticks, celery sticks, apple slices, grapes.
I know how you feel :) My daughter will get a pound of crumbs in my car if she eats crackers or something similar...lol.

I found a great snack container that prevents spills/dumping and my 21-month year old loves it. It's the "Snack Catcher" by Munchkin. Here's a link to it on Baby Center: http://store.babycenter.com/product/feeding+-+nursing/sol...
Also, he loves Kashi's version of Cheerios as well as real Cheerios and goldfish. Each of these is a one-bite deal, so there aren't a lot of crumbs.

Snack traps http://www.snacktrap.com/Categories.bok?category=Made+For...
,available at toys r us, are a good way to contain otherwise messy items such as small crackers. We also do Fruit Leather, snack bars and grapes.

Good luck!

I would really try to discourage eating in the car. There are no mess free snacks. Even my 17 yr old finds a way to make a mess.
Of course when long trips are necesssary, you have to make an exception but then you are mentally prepared for a disaster area. Other wise, make the rule, relieve yourself of the added stress of cleaning up another mess and prolong the life of your vehicle without bugs or stinkiness.

Hi,

I haven't found any car friendly yet except for maybe dry items like cheerios. Health friendly-my 20 mth old likes chopped avocado, kiwi, yogurt, graham crackers, multigrain cheerios, cheese, apples, bananas, fruit smoothies which can be made with yogurt, melons, and gerber grad cereal bars. Raw vegetables and grapes are not kid friendly and are on the list of known choking hazards for toddlers and preschoolers.
